The Sick Leave Act 2022 added St Brigid's Day (Lá Fhéile Bríde) as Ireland's tenth public holiday under the Organisation of Working Time Act 1997. From 2023 the day is the first Monday in February, except when February 1 itself falls on a Friday, in which case February 1 is the public holiday. The holiday recognises both St Brigid and the start of the Celtic festival of Imbolc, and was the first new Irish public holiday added since 1973.
