Brazil Business Day Calculator

Last reviewed: October 14, 2026 · Holiday data: September 11, 2026

Calculate dias úteis in Brazil on the calendar the financial system runs on. The calculator preselects thirteen closure days a year: the nine feriados nacionais set by federal statute, Good Friday, Carnival Monday and Tuesday, and Corpus Christi, which together are the days article 6 of Resolução CMN 4.880/2020 takes out of the business days for financial-market operations. Use it for settlement dates, payment terms and any deadline a contract measures in dias úteis.

How Brazil Business Days Are Defined

In Brazil the business days that matter for payments are defined by the Conselho Monetário Nacional, not by labour law. Article 6 of Resolução CMN 4.880/2020 excludes Saturdays, Sundays and national holidays from the business days for financial-market operations and adds Carnival Monday and Tuesday and Corpus Christi, so this calculator uses a sábado and domingo weekend and subtracts those days.

Two days close the stock exchange without leaving the bank count. B3's 2026 trading calendar has no session on 24 or 31 December, yet both remain business days for the financial system: the same resolution lets banks open with special hours on the 24th and allows no in-person service on the last business day of the year, while operations between institutions continue. This calculator counts both as business days; add them under Advanced options if your contract follows the trading calendar.

Brazil's thirteen closure days

The calculator subtracts these days, each on its own legal footing:

  • Confraternização Universal (1 January): feriado nacional, Lei 662/1949
  • Carnaval, Monday and Tuesday (48 and 47 days before Easter Sunday): not business days for banks under Resolução CMN 4.880/2020; ponto facultativo for federal staff
  • Sexta-feira Santa (2 days before Easter Sunday): feriado nacional on the federal government's annual list; a municipal religious holiday under Lei 9.093/1995
  • Tiradentes (21 April): feriado nacional, Lei 662/1949
  • Dia do Trabalho (1 May): feriado nacional, Lei 662/1949
  • Corpus Christi (60 days after Easter Sunday): not a business day for banks under Resolução CMN 4.880/2020; ponto facultativo for federal staff
  • Independência do Brasil (7 September): feriado nacional, Lei 662/1949
  • Nossa Senhora Aparecida (12 October): feriado nacional, Lei 6.802/1980
  • Finados (2 November): feriado nacional, Lei 662/1949
  • Proclamação da República (15 November): feriado nacional, Lei 662/1949
  • Dia Nacional de Zumbi e da Consciência Negra (20 November): feriado nacional, Lei 14.759/2023, from 2024
  • Natal (25 December): feriado nacional, Lei 662/1949

Nine of these are feriados nacionais by federal statute, and Lei 662/1949 is cited in the form Lei 10.607/2002 gave it. The federal government's annual portaria lists Good Friday with them and Carnival and Corpus Christi as ponto facultativo, and FEBRABAN's 2026 bank-holiday calendar carries all thirteen. Pair these tools with Brazilian invoice workflows

Where a Brazilian contract states its due date in dias úteis, the Invoice Due Date Calculator counts it against the thirteen days above; the Late Payment Interest Calculator computes the running interest balance once an invoice goes overdue.

Where a contract sets no interest rate, article 406 of the Código Civil, as amended by Lei 14.905/2024, applies the taxa legal, which is the Selic less the monetary-correction index of article 389.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which holidays are included for Brazil?
The thirteen days listed above, which are the days article 6 of Resolução CMN 4.880/2020 takes out of the business days for financial-market operations: the nine feriados nacionais of Lei 662/1949 (as amended by Lei 10.607/2002), Lei 6.802/1980 and Lei 14.759/2023, together with Good Friday, Carnival Monday and Tuesday, and Corpus Christi. Dates for every year from 2024 to 2029 are loaded into the calculator. State and municipal holidays are not included; add them, or 24 and 31 December if you follow B3's trading calendar, under Advanced options.
What is the Brazil workweek?
The calculator uses a sábado and domingo weekend because article 6 of Resolução CMN 4.880/2020 excludes both from the business days for financial-market operations. Every other weekday counts as a business day unless it is one of the thirteen closure days above.
Are Carnival and Corpus Christi national holidays in Brazil?
No. Federal statute makes nine days feriados nacionais: 1 January, 21 April, 1 May, 7 September, 2 November, 15 November and 25 December under Lei 662/1949 as amended by Lei 10.607/2002, 12 October under Lei 6.802/1980 and 20 November under Lei 14.759/2023. Carnival Monday and Tuesday, 48 and 47 days before Easter Sunday, and Corpus Christi, the Thursday 60 days after it, are ponto facultativo: each year a portaria of the Ministério da Gestão e da Inovação em Serviços Públicos sets them for the federal administration only (Portaria MGI 11.460/2025 for 2026), and it binds no private employer. This calculator counts them anyway, because article 6 of Resolução CMN 4.880/2020 makes all three non-business days for financial-market operations, so banks do not settle on them. Good Friday reads two ways: Lei 9.093/1995 counts it among the religious holidays that municipal law declares, while the federal government's annual list prints it as a feriado nacional. The calculator counts it with the national holidays, as FEBRABAN's bank-holiday calendar does. Ash Wednesday stays a business day, on which the same resolution allows banks special opening hours.
When did Dia da Consciência Negra become a national holiday?
Lei 14.759 of 21 December 2023 declared 20 November a feriado nacional, the Dia Nacional de Zumbi e da Consciência Negra, with effect from its publication, so 20 November 2024 was the first time it fell as a national holiday. As a national holiday it is also a non-business day for financial-market operations under article 6 of Resolução CMN 4.880/2020, and B3's 2026 trading calendar lists it among the exchange's closures. Because it always falls on the 20th, it always coincides with the due date for the social-security contributions a company owes for October, which then moves to the business day before under article 30, § 2º, II of Lei 8.212/1991.
