Brazil December deadlines

Natal on December 25 is a feriado nacional under Lei 662/1949. The 13º salário, one-twelfth of December's pay for each month of service (Lei 4.090/1962, art. 1), must be paid by December 20, less the advance paid between February and November (Lei 4.749/1965, art. 1). December 24 and the last business day of the year stay business days for the financial system: Resolução CMN 4.880/2020 lets banks open with special hours on the 24th (art. 2) and allows no in-person service on the last business day, when only operations between institutions run (art. 3). B3's 2026 calendar held no trading session on 24 or 31 December, so add them under Advanced options if you follow the exchange. Social-security contributions on November's pay are due by December 20.

Brazil reporting cycles and business-day rules

Brazilian business days in this calculator follow the financial system rather than the labour calendar, and its thirteen closure days a year are of three kinds. Nine are feriados nacionais by federal statute: seven under article 1 of Lei 662/1949 as amended by Lei 10.607/2002, 12 October under Lei 6.802/1980 and 20 November under Lei 14.759/2023. Good Friday reads two ways: the federal government's annual list prints it as a feriado nacional, while Lei 9.093/1995 counts it among the religious holidays that municipal law declares, and FEBRABAN's bank-holiday calendar lists it. Carnival Monday and Tuesday and Corpus Christi are only ponto facultativo for federal staff, under the annual portaria of the Ministério da Gestão e da Inovação em Serviços Públicos. The calculator counts them because article 6 of Resolução CMN 4.880/2020 takes them, with weekends and national holidays, out of the business days for financial-market operations, and the Banco Central's STR settles only on the days that remain. B3's 2026 trading calendar also has no session on 24 or 31 December, which are business days for the financial system and which this calculator counts as business days. Two payroll deadlines share the 20th of the month after the payroll month: the FGTS deposit under article 15 of Lei 8.036/1990, as amended by Lei 14.438/2022, and the social-security contributions a company withholds and owes under article 30, I, b of Lei 8.212/1991, which fall due on the business day before when there is no banking on the 20th. The 13º salário comes from Lei 4.090/1962, not the CLT, and Lei 4.749/1965 sets its payment by December 20 with a half-salary advance between February and November.

How December 2026 compares year over year

December 2025 also had 22 dias úteis, so the working capacity is unchanged year over year. On the surrounding months, November 2026 has 19 dias úteis and January 2027 has 20. Looking forward, December 2027 has 23 dias úteis under the same Brazilian bank holiday calendar.

Using this calculator in Brazil

A São Paulo treasury team uses the 22-day December 2026 count because the Banco Central do Brasil's STR, which settles transfers in real time and operation by operation, runs only on the days Resolução CMN 4.880/2020 treats as business days for financial-market operations. A Belo Horizonte payroll controller works to the two deadlines that share the 20th of the month after the payroll month, the FGTS deposit under Lei 8.036/1990 and the social-security contributions under Lei 8.212/1991, and knows the social-security payment moves to the business day before when banks are shut on the 20th. The same controller schedules the 13º salário, whose half-salary advance is due between February and November and whose balance is due by December 20 under Lei 4.749/1965.

How December 2026 is shaped

The headline count answers how many dias úteis December 2026 contains. It does not answer where they sit, and for anything measured in consecutive days rather than cumulative days that second question is the binding one. What follows is derived entirely from the Brazilian bank holiday calendar and a working week that treats sábado and domingo as the weekend, with no assumption about how any particular obligation behaves.

The month that closes the quarter, the half and the year

December runs 31 days and closes Q4, the second half of the year and the calendar year itself, so its final working day carries more boundaries than any other date on the calendar. It shares its weekday alignment with September, which means the two months start the same way and end differently. Nothing in the year follows December, so a slip here has no later period to absorb it.

In December 2026 that comes to 22 dias úteis across 31 calendar days, against 19 in November 2026 and 20 in January 2027.

A start one day into the week

The 1st falls on the second working day of the week, so December inherits a part-week at the top. One working day of that week was spent in the previous month, which is why a month opening here reads short at the beginning and long at the end. Reporting cut on calendar weeks and reporting cut on the calendar month disagree about where the period starts, and the gap is exactly one working day.

The opening stretch runs from Tuesday, December 1 to December 4, four dias úteis before the first break. December 2026 carries 22 dias úteis in total, so that opening block is 18% of the month's working capacity.

Five working stretches

December splits into five working stretches. That is the ordinary shape of a month whose only interruptions are its weekends, and it means the month's internal boundaries are all predictable a year in advance: nothing here depends on a holiday date moving.

The working days of December 2026 arrive in stretches of 4, 5, 5, 4, and 4 days. The longest unbroken stretch runs five days, from December 7 to December 11. A task needing more consecutive dias úteis than that cannot be completed inside a single stretch, whatever the month's total looks like.

The month is balanced end to end. Its opening and closing stretches are the same length, four days each, so work pushed from the start of December to its end finds the same amount of room it left behind. That symmetry is the exception rather than the rule.

Three weekdays occur five times

A 31-day month contains four full seven-day cycles and three days over, so exactly three weekdays occur five times and the other four occur four times. In December 2026 the three are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Which three it is follows entirely from the weekday the month opens on, which is why the working-day count of a 31-day month moves year to year even when its holidays do not.

All of them are working days here, so the surplus lands entirely on the working week: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday each occur 5 times. A weekend of two days can take at most two of them, and had it done so the same month would carry 20 dias úteis rather than 22.

One closure, and where it lands

December 2026 carries a single Brazilian bank closure on a working day: Natal on Friday, December 25. A holiday's cost to a month is not only the day it removes; it is also where the removal falls, because the same closure can extend an existing break or cut a working stretch in half.

It sits directly beside a weekend rather than inside a working week, so it extends an existing break instead of creating a new one. That is the cheapest position a holiday can occupy: the month loses a day but keeps its shape.

18 working days pass before the closure and only 4 follow it. With the break past the midpoint, most of the month's capacity has already been spent when it arrives, so anything the closure displaces competes for a shrinking remainder.

The closures around this month

December 2026 carries one Brazilian bank closure of its own, and the months on either side add their own. Where a deadline sits close to a month boundary, the closure that moves it is as likely to be outside the month as inside it.

Looking outside the month, the last was Dia da Consciência Negra on November 20, 2026, 11 calendar days before December began and the next is Confraternização Universal on January 1, 2027, 1 calendar day after it ends.

Across the whole of 2026 the Brazilian bank calendar puts 12 closures on working days, of which one falls in December. That ratio, rather than the raw count, is what tells you whether a month is carrying more than its share of the year's downtime.

One working day short of the week

December 2026 closes on the fourth working day of its final week, one day short of a full week. The remaining working day of that week belongs to the next month, so the last calendar week of December is split across two reporting periods. Weekly and monthly figures for that week will not agree, and the difference is one working day.

The last working day of December 2026 is Thursday, December 31. Counting back from there, the third-to-last is Tuesday, December 29, two calendar days before the month closes.

The quarter closes here

December closes Q4, so the quarter's last working day and this month's last working day are the same date. Everything the quarter has deferred arrives inside these 22 dias úteis, and there is no further month in the period to move it into.

Across the whole quarter there are 62 dias úteis, of which 22 fall in December. The other two months carry October 2026 with 21 and November 2026 with 19. It is the largest of the three, so work deferred out of December lands in a month with less room than this one had.

The week's last working day is the scarcest

The last working day of the week is the one December gives least often. That matters more than the equivalent shortfall mid-week, because end-of-week cutoffs tend to be the ones that cannot move: work deferred past them waits out the whole weekend rather than a single night.

Counted as worked rather than as occurring, December 2026 gives Monday 4, Tuesday 5, Wednesday 5, Thursday 5, and Friday 3. A weekly commitment pinned to a particular weekday fires that many times in the month, which is the number a rota needs and not the one the calendar shows.

Toward the long end of the year

December sits among the longer working months of 2026 under the Brazilian bank calendar. Where a month falls in that ranking is decided by two independent things, its calendar length and how many closures land on its working days, so a month can move several places between adjacent years without its length changing at all.

2026 carries 249 dias úteis in total under the Brazilian bank calendar. The longest month of the year is July 2026 with 23 and the shortest is February 2026 with 18, a spread of 5. December ranks 3rd of the twelve with 22.

Brazil closures across the year

A month's working-day count only means something against the country's whole calendar. Two countries that share a weekend and happen to have the same closure-free month can still run very different years, and Brazil is placed as follows.

Across 2026 the Brazilian bank closures fall 3 in Q1, 4 in Q2, 1 in Q3, and 4 in Q4. A further one holiday lands on the sábado and domingo weekend and cost no working day at all, which is why a country's holiday count and its working-day loss are different numbers.

The longest uninterrupted run in the 2026 calendar sits between June 4, 2026 and September 7, 2026, 95 calendar days with no Brazilian bank closure in between. Stretches like that are where multi-week work belongs, and they move from year to year whenever a movable holiday does.

Where the month sits in the year's closure pattern

Closures are not spread evenly across a calendar year. They cluster around fixed anniversaries and around whichever lunar or movable feasts a jurisdiction observes, so two adjacent months can carry very different loads, and the Brazilian bank calendar is no exception.

2026 opens its Brazilian bank closures with Confraternização Universal on January 1, 2026 and ends them with Natal on December 25, 2026. The densest month of the year is February 2026 with two closures on working days.

The same count as last year

December 2026 and December 2025 carry the same number of dias úteis, 22 in each. An unchanged total does not mean an unchanged month: the working days sit on different dates and break into different stretches, so a schedule copied forward date by date will not line up even though the capacity has not moved.

December opens 2025 on a Monday, 2026 on a Tuesday, and 2027 on a Wednesday. That movement, one weekday in a common year and two after a leap day, is what makes the three counts differ. The number of closures on working days is the same in both years, so the whole of any difference comes from weekday alignment. Looking ahead, December 2027 carries 23 dias úteis.

Anchor dates that do not fall on working days

Three of the common monthly anchor dates in December 2026 land on a day this calendar does not work. A month with this many blocked anchors pushes several cycles onto the same few dates, because each of them resolves forward to the next available working day and those tend to be shared.

The final column is arithmetic, not a legal conclusion. Whether an obligation actually moves when its date is not a working day depends on the instrument that sets it, and this site does not assume a shift rule for any jurisdiction. Where a rule is known it is stated in the holiday data methodology and on the country page it applies to.

Net terms dated in December 2026

An invoice dated the 1st of December on calendar-day Net 30 terms comes due on December 31, 2026, a working day under the Brazilian bank calendar. Terms counted in calendar days move independently of the working week, so the same term written on two consecutive months can settle cleanly in one and roll across a closure in the other.

Invoice dateNet 30, calendar daysNet 60, calendar days
Dated December 1December 31, 2026January 30, 2027 (rolls to February 1, 2027)

Dated December 31January 30, 2027 (rolls to February 1, 2027)March 1, 2027

Net 30 and Net 60 are commercial conventions rather than statutory periods, and both are counted here in calendar days, which is how they are almost always written. Where a contract counts in working days instead, use the between-dates calculator with the Brazil calendar selected, because the two produce different dates whenever a closure falls inside the term.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many business days are in December 2026 under the Brazilian bank holiday calendar?
December 2026 has 22 dias úteis under the Brazilian bank holiday calendar. The month spans 31 calendar days, of which 8 fall on a weekend and 1 is a Brazilian bank holiday that lands on a weekday. The remaining 22 weekdays are countable as dias úteis for invoicing, deadline tracking, and contract math.
Which Brazil holidays affect December 2026?
December 2026 contains one Brazilian bank holiday: Natal on Friday, December 25. The calculator skips it. Regional or industry-specific closures may add further non-working days for narrower contract definitions; layer them into the calculator's Advanced options if needed.
Are Carnival and Corpus Christi national holidays in Brazil?
No. Federal statute makes nine days feriados nacionais: 1 January, 21 April, 1 May, 7 September, 2 November, 15 November and 25 December under Lei 662/1949 as amended by Lei 10.607/2002, 12 October under Lei 6.802/1980 and 20 November under Lei 14.759/2023. Carnival Monday and Tuesday, 48 and 47 days before Easter Sunday, and Corpus Christi, the Thursday 60 days after it, are ponto facultativo: each year a portaria of the Ministério da Gestão e da Inovação em Serviços Públicos sets them for the federal administration only (Portaria MGI 11.460/2025 for 2026), and it binds no private employer. This calculator counts them anyway, because article 6 of Resolução CMN 4.880/2020 makes all three non-business days for financial-market operations, so banks do not settle on them. Good Friday reads two ways: Lei 9.093/1995 counts it among the religious holidays that municipal law declares, while the federal government's annual list prints it as a feriado nacional. The calculator counts it with the national holidays, as FEBRABAN's bank-holiday calendar does. Ash Wednesday stays a business day, on which the same resolution allows banks special opening hours.
When did Dia da Consciência Negra become a national holiday?
Lei 14.759 of 21 December 2023 declared 20 November a feriado nacional, the Dia Nacional de Zumbi e da Consciência Negra, with effect from its publication, so 20 November 2024 was the first time it fell as a national holiday. As a national holiday it is also a non-business day for financial-market operations under article 6 of Resolução CMN 4.880/2020, and B3's 2026 trading calendar lists it among the exchange's closures. Because it always falls on the 20th, it always coincides with the due date for the social-security contributions a company owes for October, which then moves to the business day before under article 30, § 2º, II of Lei 8.212/1991.
Why does the business-day count vary year to year?
Two things shift the monthly count for Brazil. First, the day of the week the first of the month lands on changes the count of each weekday. Second, Brazilian bank holidays anchored to a fixed date shift their weekday across years. Some years a fixed-date holiday lands on a weekend; some countries shift the observance to an adjacent weekday and some absorb it into the weekend. December 2025 also had 22 dias úteis, so the working capacity is unchanged year over year.
When is the last working day of December 2026?
The last working day of December 2026 under the Brazilian bank calendar is Thursday, December 31. The month's last calendar day is Thursday, December 31, so the two are the same date this year. Counting back, the third-to-last working day is Tuesday, December 29.
How many working days in a row does December 2026 offer?
December 2026 has 22 dias úteis in total, but they do not run consecutively. They arrive in five stretches of 4, 5, 5, 4, and 4 days, so the longest unbroken run is five days, from December 7 to December 11. No working day in the month is isolated between two closures.
