Every holiday date on this site traces back to a first-party government source: an official gazette, a labour ministry, a central bank calendar, or a public-holidays statute. This page is the register of those sources. For each jurisdiction it names the publishing authority, links straight to the official page, and shows the date the data was last cross-checked against it.

The links here point at the raw authorities, the same public pages a court clerk or a payroll lead would cite. The parsed and cross-checked holiday calendars stay on the country and region pages, where you can read them in context. If you need the dates themselves, those pages list them; this register is for tracing where each one comes from.

How the sources are verified

Three rules govern what appears here. First, the source must be first-party: the government body that declares the holiday, not an aggregator that repeats it. Where a country sets no single national statute, the register names the federal body that states which days apply nationwide. Germany is the clearest case, since its public holidays are fixed by each Land rather than by one federal law.

Second, every entry carries the date its data was last reviewed against the source shown. Third, a scheduled check re-fetches every source link each week and flags any that stop resolving, so a government URL that moves or breaks is caught in days rather than months. None of this runs when the page loads. The register is static and refreshes on deploy.

Frequently Asked Questions

What counts as an official source here?
A first-party government publication: an official gazette or state bulletin, a ministry of labour, a central bank's closing calendar, or the statute that establishes the holiday. Aggregators, encyclopedias, and commercial calendars are not used as the citation, even where they happen to be accurate, because the point of the register is to reach the body with the authority to set the date.
Can I download the holiday data from this page?
No. The register points at the government sources; it does not republish the calendars built from them. The dates for each country and region live on their own pages, where you can see them in context. That keeps the citation trail fully public while the verified, deduplicated data stays where it is useful.
How current are these sources?
Each entry shows the date its data was last cross-checked against the source. A scheduled job also re-fetches every link each week and reports any that no longer resolve, so a broken or moved government URL is found quickly. When a source moves, the citation is re-pointed at the current official page rather than left to rot.
Why do some entries link to a domain instead of a named authority?
The 25 national sources name the publishing body directly. The 86 sub-national entries link to the source and show its government domain rather than a hand-written authority name. Naming 86 regional bodies by hand would be 86 chances to misattribute one, and the domain is a fact that can be read straight off the link.
