2025 year summary

All 11 dates land on weekdays in 2025, so each one takes a working day out of the count. Ireland has ten public holidays under the Organisation of Working Time Act 1997. The tenth, St Brigid's Day, has applied since 2023 under S.I. No. 50 of 2022: the first Monday in February, or 1 February when that falls on a Friday. The Act moves none of them. A public holiday that falls on a Saturday or Sunday stays a public holiday on that date, the employee's benefit becomes a paid day off within a month, an extra day of annual leave or an extra day's pay, and the Workplace Relations Commission states that there is no legal entitlement to have the next working day off. This table lists the public holidays that fall on a Monday to Friday and Good Friday. A public holiday that falls on a Saturday or Sunday has no row of its own, and beside it the table lists a weekday only where banks and Government offices both close it. Banks close the next free weekday after every weekend public holiday, Saturday or Sunday, in the bank-holiday lists of the Banking & Payments Federation Ireland. Civil-service Circular 5/1984 closes Government offices on that weekday after a Sunday holiday; after a Saturday one it only allows a department to grant a day off, so that weekday counts only where a department's own closure list shows it closed. A counted weekday is marked (additional), because the holiday itself keeps its weekend date. Good Friday is marked (additional) as well: it is not a public holiday under the Act, but Circular 5/1984 lists it among the public holidays granted to civil servants, and the banks close on it.

Holidays not included

This is the Republic of Ireland's set. Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom and has its own bank holidays, which are on this site's Northern Ireland pages. One of them, the Battle of the Boyne on 12 July or its substitute weekday, is not in this table. Good Friday is in this table although it is not a public holiday under the Act, as the Workplace Relations Commission notes: Circular 5/1984 grants it to civil servants and the banks close on it, so it is counted, marked (additional). A weekday the banks close and Government offices do not is left out of this table and counted as a business day. Banks add a third Christmas bank holiday on 27 December or the next free weekday, and close the weekday after a Saturday public holiday, which is left out unless a Government department's own closure list shows it closed as well.
