How Philippine Business Days Are Defined

In the Philippines, business days are Monday through Friday, less the days each year's presidential proclamation declares nationwide. A proclamation names regular holidays, special (non-working) days and, in some years, a special (working) day on which work goes on. This calculator excludes the first two and counts the third as a business day. Special days proclaimed for a single city, municipality or province are not included. A proclamation can add a nationwide day during the year, so for legally critical deadlines check the latest official proclamation.

What is the difference between a regular holiday and a special non-working holiday in the Philippines?

They are the two tiers of each year's presidential proclamation, and the calculator excludes both. Regular holidays are the ten days listed above plus Eid'l Fitr and Eid'l Adha. Special (non-working) days include Chinese New Year, All Saints' Day and Christmas Eve, and the additional ones change from year to year. A special (working) day is not a closure and stays a business day.

Does the calculator include Eid al-Fitr in the Philippines?

Yes. Eid'l Fitr and Eid'l Adha are regular holidays, proclaimed each year on the recommendation of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos. The calculator uses the proclaimed date once the proclamation has been issued, and a computed date tagged approximate for a year whose proclamation has not.

How many business days are in a Philippine work year?

It depends on the year: how many of that year's regular holidays and special non-working days fall on a weekday. Each year's Philippine holiday page gives the total for that year, worked out from the same dates this calculator uses.

Does the calculator count Saturdays in the Philippines?

No. The calculator counts Monday to Friday and treats Saturday and Sunday as the weekend. If a counterparty works on Saturdays, this count leaves those Saturdays out.
