Business Days in a Month

Last reviewed: October 14, 2026

Not every month has the same number of working days. A month holds 20 to 23 weekdays, Monday to Friday, depending on its length and the day it starts on: a 31-day month that opens on a Monday has 23, and a 28-day February always has exactly 20. Each holiday that falls on a weekday takes one away; under the US federal calendar, Washington's Birthday, the third Monday in February, brings a 28-day February to 19. This hub lists the current month and the 12 that follow, so you can open the one you need and read its exact business-day count, holiday list, and weekday breakdown.

The month pages answer a fixed-calendar question: how many working days fall inside a named month, January to December. That is a different job from the business-days-from-today tool, which counts a rolling window forward from the current date. Use a month page for capacity planning, billing-cycle forecasts, and payroll runs tied to the calendar; use the from-today tool for a deadline measured in days from now.

The rolling window covers the current month and the 12 that follow. Each page shows the business-day total under US federal holidays, a table that recounts the same month on 11 national calendars, and the US federal holidays that fall inside the month. Each month also has a page of its own for every one of the 25 country calendars.

Business days this month by country (October 2026)

The current month, counted against each country's own weekend rule and public holidays. Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Egypt are counted with Friday and Saturday as the weekend rather than Saturday and Sunday, so their totals count a different set of days. Israel is counted Sunday to Friday, the week of the Bank of Israel's payment system, with Saturday the only weekly rest day, so its totals count six days of each week.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many business days are in a month?
A month holds 20 to 23 weekdays, Monday to Friday: a 28-day February exactly 20, a 29-day February 20 or 21, a 30-day month 20 to 22 and a 31-day month 21 to 23, depending on the weekday it starts on. Each public holiday that falls on a weekday takes one away, so the business-day count is the weekday count less those holidays. Open the specific month above to read its exact count.
How is this different from the business days from today tool?
A month page counts the working days inside a fixed calendar month, so its total does not depend on the day you open it. The business days from today tool counts forward from the current date, so its answer moves with the date. Reach for a month page when you are planning against the calendar, and the from-today tool when a deadline is set as a number of days from now.
Which months can I look up here?
The hub lists a rolling 13-month window: the current month and the 12 that follow. Each month is a standalone page with its own holiday list and country comparison. For a month outside the window, use the between-dates calculator on this page: enter the first and the last day of the month and tick "Include start date in count" and "Include end date in count", which are off when the page opens, so that both days are counted. The calculator opens on the US federal calendar. Its holiday data runs from 2024 to 2029 for every country; for a later or earlier year it skips weekends only and shows a notice saying so.
Do the monthly totals include public holidays?
No, they leave them out. The headline count on each month page excludes both weekends and US federal holidays, and the country table on the page recounts the same month on 11 national holiday calendars. Each federal holiday observed on a weekday takes one working day off the month's weekday total.
