Calculate business days in Nunavut with its own statutory holidays. Nunavut shares the Monday to Friday working week and the Saturday and Sunday weekend with the rest of Canada, but its statutory holiday calendar is different, so due dates and deadlines can land differently from the federal count.
How Nunavut differs from the federal Canadian holidays
Nunavut runs eleven general holidays under the Labour Standards Act. It adds Nunavut Day on 9 July (a general holiday since 2019) and the August Civic Holiday on the first Monday of August, and it does not treat Boxing Day as a general holiday, so that federal day is dropped. Nunavut keeps the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on 30 September: section 1 of the Act names it in the definition of a general holiday, as amended in 2022. When one of those holidays falls on a Saturday or Sunday, Nunavut law lets the employer choose between a substitute day off at a time convenient to both sides and a payment in lieu, and if the employer pays, no weekday closes at all. It does not fix the date. This calendar uses the conventional following Monday. The working week is Monday to Friday with a Saturday and Sunday weekend.
Worked example
Adding 1 business days to Wednesday, July 8, 2026 using Nunavut's statutory holidays lands on Friday, July 10, 2026. With the federal Canadian holidays, the same calculation lands on Thursday, July 9, 2026: the gap comes from Nunavut's own calendar.
