Aargau Business Day Calculator

Last reviewed: October 14, 2026 · Holiday data: October 8, 2026

Calculate business days in Aargau with its own cantonal public holidays. Like the Switzerland calculator, this page counts Monday to Friday as working days; what changes is the holiday list, so due dates and deadlines can land differently from the Switzerland calculator's count.

How Aargau differs from the Switzerland calculator

Aargau's law introducing labour law (EG ArR, SAR 961.200, § 6) gives no single list for the canton: it sets the days equal to Sundays district by district, in eight lists. Only Neujahr, Karfreitag, Auffahrt and Weihnacht appear in all of them, and with the Bundesfeiertag on 1 August those five days are what this page counts. Against this site's eight-day Swiss baseline it therefore drops Ostermontag (Easter Monday) and Pfingstmontag (Whit Monday), which the Bremgarten, Laufenburg, Muri and Zurzach districts and six communes of Rheinfelden district do not observe, and Stephanstag (26 December), which Laufenburg, Muri and the same six communes do not observe. It adds nothing. Berchtoldstag (2 January), Fronleichnam (Corpus Christi), Mariä Himmelfahrt (15 August), Allerheiligen (1 November) and Mariä Empfängnis (8 December) are holidays in some districts only; the district table on Aargau's holiday pages for each year shows where each applies. The canton's Amt für Wirtschaft und Arbeit adds that days not listed, 1 May for example, are not statutory holidays in Aargau.

Worked example

Adding 1 business day to Thursday, April 2, 2026 using Aargau's holidays lands on Monday, April 6, 2026. With the Switzerland calculator's holidays, the same calculation lands on Tuesday, April 7, 2026: the gap comes from Aargau's own calendar.

How to count Aargau business days

For an interactive calculation, use the Switzerland calculator and add Aargau's own dates under Advanced options, one per line in YYYY-MM-DD form; the Aargau public holidays 2026 page linked below lists the dates. The Advanced options can add dates but not remove them, so a count that crosses Ostermontag (Easter Monday) (Monday, April 6, 2026) and Pfingstmontag (Whit Monday) (Monday, May 25, 2026), days in the Switzerland calculator's set but not in Aargau's calendar, will land one working day later than Aargau's own for each of those dates it crosses.

Aargau public holiday data is verified against the Aargau Einführungsgesetz zum Arbeitsrecht (SAR 961.200), § 6, gesetzessammlungen.ag.ch.

Aargau's districts, 2026 to 2028

This calculator counts the five days that hold across the canton. A business under one of the eight lists of § 6 of the EG ArR also closes on that list's own days; the table gives each list's working days per year, computed from that year's dates.

Using the Switzerland calculator for a district

Four lists contain every day of the Switzerland calculator's set and add more. For them the Switzerland calculator gives the exact result if you add these dates under Advanced options, one per line:

  • Aarau, Brugg, Kulm, Lenzburg and Zofingen districts (lit. a): Berchtoldstag (2 January) (2026-01-02, 2027-01-02, 2028-01-02)
  • Bergdietikon, Baden district (lit. b, 1): Berchtoldstag (2 January) (2026-01-02, 2027-01-02, 2028-01-02)
  • Rest of Baden district (lit. b, 2): Fronleichnam (Corpus Christi) (2026-06-04, 2027-05-27, 2028-06-15)
  • Kaiseraugst, Magden, Möhlin, Olsberg, Rheinfelden, Wallbach, Zeiningen and Zuzgen, Rheinfelden district (lit. e, 2): Allerheiligen (All Saints' Day) (2026-11-01, 2027-11-01, 2028-11-01)

The other four lists leave out days the Switzerland calculator counts, which the Advanced options cannot remove: Bremgarten district (lit. c): Ostermontag (Easter Monday) and Pfingstmontag (Whit Monday); Laufenburg and Muri districts (lit. d): Ostermontag (Easter Monday), Pfingstmontag (Whit Monday), and Stephanstag (26 December); Hellikon, Mumpf, Obermumpf, Schupfart, Stein and Wegenstetten, Rheinfelden district (lit. e, 1): Ostermontag (Easter Monday), Pfingstmontag (Whit Monday), and Stephanstag (26 December); Zurzach district (lit. f): Ostermontag (Easter Monday) and Pfingstmontag (Whit Monday). For them a count that crosses those days ends one working day later on the Switzerland calculator for each.

Aargau FAQ

Does the Aargau calculator use different holidays from the Switzerland calculator?
Which days does the Aargau calculator count as working days?
Monday to Friday, with Saturday and Sunday as the weekend: the same days the Switzerland calculator counts. Only the cantonal holiday set changes.
Why does the Aargau calculator count fewer holidays than most districts?
Because it counts only the days § 6 of the EG ArR puts in all eight lists: Neujahr, Karfreitag, Auffahrt and Weihnacht, plus 1 August. Every district has eight days besides 1 August, but not the same eight; the table on this page gives each list's count.
