Calculate business days in Zürich with its own cantonal public holidays. Zürich shares the Monday to Friday working week and the Saturday and Sunday weekend with the rest of Switzerland, but its holiday calendar is different, so due dates and deadlines can land differently from the national count.
How Zürich differs from the national Swiss holidays
Zürich keeps the national Swiss public holidays and adds one statutory cantonal day: Tag der Arbeit (Labour Day) on 1 May, an official rest day across the whole canton. Berchtoldstag (2 January) is not a Zürich holiday. Two well-known Zürich events, Sechseläuten in spring and Knabenschiessen in September, are half-day customs of the city of Zürich rather than cantonal public holidays, so they stay out of the canton-wide count. The working week is Monday to Friday with a Saturday and Sunday weekend, so it is the cantonal holiday, not the weekend, that moves a due date.
Worked example
Adding 2 business days to Wednesday, April 29, 2026 using Zürich's holidays lands on Monday, May 4, 2026. With the national Swiss holidays, the same calculation lands on Friday, May 1, 2026: the gap comes from Zürich's own calendar.
