The 2 weekend dates in 2026 fall on a Saturday or Sunday, days the count already excludes, so the working-day reduction comes only from the 6 weekday dates. Switzerland has one federal public holiday, the Bundesfeiertag on 1 August. Every other holiday is cantonal, and a canton may treat at most eight further days as equal to Sundays. Of the cantonal days, only Neujahrstag, Auffahrt and Weihnachten are designated in all 26 cantons. This calculator's national set adds Karfreitag, Ostermontag, Pfingstmontag and Stephanstag to those and 1 August; the Bundesamt für Justiz directory (status 1 January 2011) lists each of the four, as a public holiday or as a day treated as one, for at least 22 cantons. It is a working baseline rather than a list any federal act fixes: the same directory has no Karfreitag for Ticino or Valais.

Beyond this set, which days count depends on the canton and on which list applies. The Bundesamt für Justiz directory of days treated as public holidays for the calculation of time limits (status 1 January 2011) lists Berchtoldstag on 2 January for 16 of the 26 cantons, for Neuchâtel only when 1 January is a Sunday, and not for Genève, Basel-Stadt, Basel-Landschaft, Uri, Schwyz, Graubünden, Ticino or either Appenzell. It lists Allerheiligen on 1 November for 15 cantons, Mariä Himmelfahrt on 15 August for 13, and the Jeûne genevois for Genève alone. The canton pages on this site follow each canton's own law rather than this directory, so check which of the two your deadline runs on.
