Aargau Public Holidays 2026

Last reviewed: October 14, 2026 · Holiday data: October 8, 2026

The 2026 table for Aargau lists 5 dates: 4 fall on a weekday and 1 on a weekend. That leaves 257 working days in 2026. Like the Switzerland calculator, this page counts Monday to Friday as working days; what changes is the holiday list.

How Aargau differs from the Switzerland calculator

Aargau's law introducing labour law (EG ArR, SAR 961.200, § 6) gives no single list for the canton: it sets the days equal to Sundays district by district, in eight lists. Only Neujahr, Karfreitag, Auffahrt and Weihnacht appear in all of them, and with the Bundesfeiertag on 1 August those five days are what this page counts. Against this site's eight-day Swiss baseline it therefore drops Ostermontag (Easter Monday) and Pfingstmontag (Whit Monday), which the Bremgarten, Laufenburg, Muri and Zurzach districts and six communes of Rheinfelden district do not observe, and Stephanstag (26 December), which Laufenburg, Muri and the same six communes do not observe. It adds nothing. Berchtoldstag (2 January), Fronleichnam (Corpus Christi), Mariä Himmelfahrt (15 August), Allerheiligen (1 November) and Mariä Empfängnis (8 December) are holidays in some districts only; the district table on Aargau's holiday pages for each year shows where each applies. The canton's Amt für Wirtschaft und Arbeit adds that days not listed, 1 May for example, are not statutory holidays in Aargau.

Aargau's holidays district by district, 2026

Section 6 of the EG ArR sets no single list for the canton: it gives each district, and in Baden and Rheinfelden groups of communes, its own list of eight days equal to Sundays, besides 1 August. This page counts only the days every list shares; what follows shows each list in 2026 and what it changes in the count.

    The eight § 6 lists in 2026

Each row is one list in § 6 Abs. 1 of the EG ArR. The second column gives the days that list adds to the five that hold across the canton, with their 2026 dates; the third gives the Monday-to-Friday working days left in 2026 under the full list.

Why the lists count differently in 2026

A fixed-date day only costs a working day when it lands on a weekday, so the same list weighs differently from year to year. In 2026, Mariä Himmelfahrt (Assumption) (Saturday, August 15), Allerheiligen (All Saints' Day) (Sunday, November 1), and Stephanstag (26 December) (Saturday, December 26) fall on a weekend and change no count, while Berchtoldstag (2 January) (Friday, January 2) and Mariä Empfängnis (Immaculate Conception) (Tuesday, December 8) fall on a weekday. Ostermontag and Pfingstmontag are always Mondays and Fronleichnam is always a Thursday, so each costs a day in every list that has it. The 2026 result runs from 254 working days (Aarau, Brugg, Kulm, Lenzburg and Zofingen districts (lit. a), Bergdietikon, Baden district (lit. b, 1), and Rest of Baden district (lit. b, 2)) to 256 (Bremgarten district (lit. c)), against 257 under the five canton-wide days.

Two examples from this calculator's engine. Fronleichnam falls on Thursday, June 4, 2026: adding five business days to Wednesday, June 3, 2026 lands on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 under the canton-wide set and on Thursday, June 11, 2026 under the list for the rest of Baden district, which has Fronleichnam. Adding one business day to Thursday, April 2, 2026, the day before Karfreitag, lands on Monday, April 6, 2026 under the canton-wide set, which does not count Ostermontag, and on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 under the list for Aarau, Brugg, Kulm, Lenzburg and Zofingen.

The first working day after each holiday, 2026

Computed on Aargau's calendar: a deadline that falls on a holiday and moves to the next working day lands on the date in the third column.

Each month counts Monday to Friday less the holidays that fall on a weekday. The last column is the difference from the Switzerland calculator: in a month with a difference, a deadline counted on the Switzerland calculator can land on another date.

    Aargau 2026 FAQ

How many public holidays does Aargau have in 2026?
The 2026 table for Aargau lists 5 dates: 4 fall on a weekday and 1 on a weekend. The 4 weekday dates are the ones the count subtracts; the full list, with each date's weekday, is in the table above.
How does Aargau differ from the rest of Switzerland?
Which holidays does Aargau change in 2026?
The Switzerland calculator's set has these dates that Aargau's table does not: Ostermontag (Easter Monday) (Monday, April 6); Pfingstmontag (Whit Monday) (Monday, May 25); Stephanstag (Boxing Day) (Saturday, December 26).
How many working days does Aargau have in 2026?
Aargau has 257 working days in 2026, after subtracting 104 weekend days and 4 weekday-falling public holidays.
Is 1 May a public holiday in Aargau?
No. No list in § 6 of the EG ArR includes it, and the canton's Amt für Wirtschaft und Arbeit states that days not listed, 1 May for example, are not statutory holidays in Aargau. In 2026, 1 May is a Friday.
Is Easter Monday 2026 a public holiday in Aargau?
In part of the canton only. Monday, April 6, 2026 is a holiday in the Aarau, Brugg, Kulm, Lenzburg, Zofingen and Baden districts and in eight communes of Rheinfelden district, but not in Bremgarten, Laufenburg, Muri or Zurzach, nor in the other six Rheinfelden communes. This page counts the canton-wide days, so it does not subtract it.
