How Prince Edward Island differs from the federal Canadian holidays
Prince Edward Island's Employment Standards Act names eight paid holidays: New Year's Day, Islander Day, Good Friday, 1 July, Labour Day, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (observed on 30 September), Remembrance Day and Christmas Day. Against the federal Canadian set that adds Islander Day and leaves out Victoria Day, Thanksgiving and Boxing Day, so those three federal days are dropped. When a paid holiday falls on a day that is not a work day for the employee, section 27(2) lets the employer give the holiday with pay on the employee's next work day after it, on the next work day after the employee's annual vacation, or on a day both agree before that vacation. The Act names no single day, so this calendar counts none: a paid holiday on a Saturday or Sunday stays on its own date and no weekday is added for it.
Worked example
Adding 2 business days to Friday, February 13, 2026 using Prince Edward Island's statutory holidays lands on Wednesday, February 18, 2026. With the federal Canadian holidays, the same calculation lands on Tuesday, February 17, 2026: the gap comes from Prince Edward Island's own calendar.
