How Nidwalden differs from the national Swiss holidays
Nidwalden runs the national Swiss public holidays and adds five Catholic days across the canton: Josefstag (St Joseph's Day) on 19 March, Fronleichnam (Corpus Christi), Mariä Himmelfahrt on 15 August, Allerheiligen on 1 November and Mariä Empfängnis on 8 December. It keeps Josefstag, which its neighbour Obwalden does not, but does not observe Epiphany canton-wide. All eight national days, including the Easter and Whit Mondays and Stephanstag, are kept. The working week is Monday to Friday, so in a year where Josefstag and the autumn feasts fall on weekdays the Nidwalden count runs lower than the national one.
