Neuchâtel Business Day Calculator

Last reviewed: October 14, 2026 · Holiday data: October 8, 2026

Calculate business days in Neuchâtel with its own cantonal public holidays. Like the Switzerland calculator, this page counts Monday to Friday as working days; what changes is the holiday list, so due dates and deadlines can land differently from the Switzerland calculator's count.

How Neuchâtel differs from the Switzerland calculator

Neuchâtel's law on Sundays and holidays (RSN 941.02, art. 3) makes 1 January, 1 March (the Instauration de la République), 1 May, Vendredi Saint, the Ascension and Christmas Day days of rest equal to Sunday, plus 2 January and 26 December in years when 1 January or Christmas falls on a Sunday. Easter Monday and Whit Monday are not in the law. Against this site's eight-day Swiss baseline that adds 1 March and 1 May and drops Easter Monday, Whit Monday and 26 December; neither Sunday rule applies in 2026, 2027 or 2028. The canton's page also says shops must close on Easter Monday, Whit Monday and the Lundi du Jeûne fédéral, and that the cantonal administration gives its staff further days off; those closures do not make public holidays and are not counted. 1 March falls on a Sunday in 2026, so it closes a weekday only in 2027 and 2028.

Worked example

Adding 1 business day to Thursday, April 30, 2026 using Neuchâtel's holidays lands on Monday, May 4, 2026. With the Switzerland calculator's holidays, the same calculation lands on Friday, May 1, 2026: the gap comes from Neuchâtel's own calendar.

How to count Neuchâtel business days

For an interactive calculation, use the Switzerland calculator and add Neuchâtel's own dates under Advanced options, one per line in YYYY-MM-DD form; the Neuchâtel public holidays 2026 page linked below lists the dates. The Advanced options can add dates but not remove them, so a count that crosses Ostermontag (Easter Monday) (Monday, April 6, 2026) and Pfingstmontag (Whit Monday) (Monday, May 25, 2026), days in the Switzerland calculator's set but not in Neuchâtel's calendar, will land one working day later than Neuchâtel's own for each of those dates it crosses.

Neuchâtel public holiday data is verified against the canton of Neuchâtel jours fériés officiels page (ne.ch) and the Loi sur le dimanche et les jours fériés (RSN 941.02).
