Northern Territory Business Day Calculator
Last reviewed: August 26, 2026 · Holiday data: August 26, 2026
Calculate business days in Northern Territory with its own public holidays. Northern Territory shares the Monday to Friday working week and the Saturday and Sunday weekend with the rest of Australia, but its public holiday calendar is different, so due dates and deadlines can land differently from the national count.
How Northern Territory differs from the national Australian holidays
The Northern Territory layers four holidays on the national set: Easter Saturday, Easter Sunday, May Day on the first Monday of May, and Picnic Day on the first Monday of August. The King's Birthday stays on the national June date. The Territory moves Anzac Day only when 25 April falls on a Sunday, in which case the following Monday replaces it: that makes Monday 26 April 2027 a public holiday, while a Saturday 25 April, as in 2026, produces no extra day. A weekend Christmas Day, Boxing Day, or New Year's Day works the other way round, with the extra weekday granted in addition to the weekend date, which stays a public holiday. Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve are part-day holidays from 7 pm, not full closures, so they are not counted. Regional show days (Darwin, Alice Springs, Katherine, and Tennant Creek) are local-area holidays rather than territory-wide, so they are not counted here. The working week is Monday to Friday with a Saturday and Sunday weekend.
Worked example
Adding 2 business days to Friday, July 31, 2026 using Northern Territory's public holidays lands on Wednesday, August 5, 2026. With the national Australian public holidays, the same calculation lands on Tuesday, August 4, 2026: the gap comes from Northern Territory's own calendar.
