How Sachsen-Anhalt differs from the nationwide German holidays
Saxony-Anhalt's Gesetz über die Sonn- und Feiertage (§ 2) lists the staatlich anerkannte Feiertage: the nationwide days, der Tag Heilige Drei Könige (6. Januar) and der Reformationstag (31. Oktober), so this calendar adds those two. Heilige Drei Könige falls on a weekday in each year (a Tuesday in 2026, a Wednesday in 2027, a Thursday in 2028) and shortens the count. Reformationstag falls on a weekend in 2026 and 2027 and on a Tuesday in 2028, when it closes a further weekday. A § 2a in force since 12 May 2026 names 8 May and 17 June as staatlich anerkannte Gedenktage. They are not counted here: § 3 Abs. 1 names the Sundays and the staatlich anerkannte Feiertage as Tage allgemeiner Arbeitsruhe and does not name the Gedenktage, and the bill that added § 2a says the two days create no work-free holiday.
Worked example
Adding 1 business day to Monday, January 5, 2026 using Sachsen-Anhalt's Feiertage lands on Wednesday, January 7, 2026. With the 9 nationwide German Feiertage, the same calculation lands on Tuesday, January 6, 2026: the gap comes from Sachsen-Anhalt's own calendar.
