How Appenzell Ausserrhoden differs from the Switzerland calculator
Appenzell Ausserrhoden has no separate law on rest days. Its ordinance on the federal Labour Act (bGS 822.11, Art. 7) equates Neujahr, Karfreitag, Ostermontag, Auffahrt, Pfingstmontag and both Christmas days with Sundays, so with the Bundesfeiertag on 1 August its list is this site's eight-day Swiss baseline, with one rule of its own: the second Christmas day, Stephanstag (26 December), is not kept when Christmas Day falls on a Monday or a Friday. Christmas 2026 is a Friday, so Saturday 26 December 2026 is not a holiday and no count changes. Christmas 2027 is a Saturday and Stephanstag is kept, so the canton's 2027 list is the baseline and this site has no separate 2027 page for it. Christmas 2028 is a Monday, so Tuesday 26 December 2028 is a working day in Ausserrhoden and the canton has one more working day that year than the baseline. The canton's law on Sunday trading (bGS 822.31, Art. 1) closes shops on Sundays and on these state-recognised holidays.

When the Switzerland calculator is enough
In 2026 and 2027 the Switzerland calculator gives the same result as the canton's calendar: in 2026 the dropped day is a Saturday, and in 2027 Stephanstag is kept, so the 2027 list is the Switzerland calculator's and this site has no separate canton page for that year. In 2028 it is not enough: Tuesday, December 26, 2028 is a working day in Ausserrhoden, and the Advanced options can add dates but not remove them, so a count that crosses it ends one working day later on the Switzerland calculator. Shops follow the same calendar: Art. 1 of the canton's Sunday trading law (bGS 822.31) closes them on Sundays and state-recognised holidays. Switzerland public holidays 2027.
