How Solothurn differs from the national Swiss holidays
Solothurn keeps the national Swiss public holidays and adds one canton-wide day: Berchtoldstag (2 January), a legal holiday across the whole canton. The Catholic feasts kept in parts of the canton, Fronleichnam (Corpus Christi), Mariä Himmelfahrt (15 August), Allerheiligen (1 November) and Mariä Empfängnis (8 December), are observed only in the historically Catholic communes and districts, not canton-wide, so they are explained here rather than counted, the same treatment given to Bern's Fronleichnam. Berchtoldstag falls on a Friday in 2026, so it moves a deadline that year; in 2027 it lands on a Saturday and in 2028 on a Sunday, so it leaves the count unchanged in those years. Stephanstag and the Easter and Whit Mondays are kept, and the weekend is Saturday and Sunday.

Adding 1 business days to Wednesday, December 31, 2025 using Solothurn's holidays lands on Monday, January 5, 2026. With the national Swiss holidays, the same calculation lands on Friday, January 2, 2026: the gap comes from Solothurn's own calendar.
