How Newfoundland and Labrador differs from the federal Canadian holidays
Section 14(1) of Newfoundland and Labrador's Labour Standards Act names six public holidays: New Year's Day, Good Friday, Remembrance Day, Memorial Day, Labour Day and Christmas Day, plus any day the Lieutenant-Governor in Council proclaims. This calendar's six rows each year are New Year's Day, Good Friday, Canada Day (1 July), Labour Day, Remembrance Day and Christmas Day. The province adds nothing to the federal set, and Victoria Day, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Thanksgiving and Boxing Day are not on the list, so a Newfoundland and Labrador count drops those four federal days. Under section 16, when a public holiday falls on a day an employee is not required to work, the employer shall not require the employee to work during the 1st working day immediately following, or another day they mutually agree. This calendar uses that following day: Christmas Day 2027 is counted on Monday 27 December, and in 2028 New Year's Day, Canada Day and Remembrance Day on Monday 3 January, 3 July and 13 November.
