Business Day Calendar

Last reviewed: July 20, 2026

A business day calendar highlights weekends and public holidays so you can count the working days across any date range at a glance.

Choose a country, click a start day, then click an end day. The span between them fills with an accent tint, weekends and public holidays inside it stay marked, and the counter shows how many business days, weekend days, and holidays the range covers.

Click a start day, then an end day, to measure the span.

Pick two days on the calendar to count the business days between them.

How to read the calendar

Every day on the grid is shaded by type. Regular working days sit on the plain background. Weekend days carry the muted secondary shade. Public holidays that land on a weekday show an amber tint with the holiday name. Once you click a start day and an end day, the days between them (and both endpoints) take on a blue accent, so a project window, a payment period, or a notice deadline reads as a single block. The two days you clicked get a stronger accent and a ring, and the current date carries its own outline after the page loads.

What the calendar leaves out

A business day is any day that is not a weekend day and not a public holiday. The counter reflects that: it subtracts the weekend days and the weekday public holidays from the calendar-day span, and the remainder is the business-day count. Public holidays come from the same per-country data the rest of the site uses, sourced from each country's official gazette, ministry of labour, or central bank. Switch the country and the holidays redraw. Switch to a country with a different weekend and the shaded days move too.

Weekends are not the same everywhere

Most of the 25 countries run a Monday-to-Friday week with a Saturday-Sunday weekend. Several do not. Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Israel, and Egypt run a Sunday-to-Thursday week, so their weekend falls on Friday and Saturday, and the calendar shades those two days instead. The United Arab Emirates moved its federal public sector to a Saturday-Sunday weekend in January 2022, with Friday a working day, so the UAE calendar looks like the Western pattern again. Because the weekend set drives the shading and the count, picking the right country matters: a ten-day window that crosses a Friday counts differently in Riyadh than in London.

How the count treats the start and end day

The range is inclusive of both endpoints. When you select Monday the 4th as the start and Friday the 8th as the end, all five days are inside the range, and any of those five that are business days are counted. This matches the Between Dates tool when you tick both Include start date and Include end date. If you need the exclusive convention instead (counting from the day after the start), the Between Dates calculator lets you toggle each endpoint. For a deadline measured forward from today, the From Today tool starts the count on the current date and returns the target working day.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I count business days on the calendar?
Pick your country, click the day the period starts, then click the day it ends. The calendar highlights every day in between, keeps weekends and public holidays marked, and shows the business-day total below the grid. Both the start day and the end day are included in the count.
Are the start and end days both counted?
Yes. The range is inclusive, so a selection from the 4th to the 8th covers all five days, and each of those days that is a working day adds to the total. This equals the Between Dates calculator with both Include start date and Include end date checked.
How does the calendar handle countries with a Friday-Saturday weekend?
Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Israel, and Egypt run a Sunday-to-Thursday workweek, so Friday and Saturday are shaded as the weekend and left out of the business-day count. The United Arab Emirates uses a Saturday-Sunday weekend for the federal public sector since January 2022. Select the country and the calendar redraws its weekend accordingly.
Where do the public holidays come from?
Each country's holidays come from its official source: a government gazette, ministry of labour, central bank, or equivalent holiday authority. The site tracks national public holidays; regional and bank-only days are not included by default. Holidays that fall on a weekday are marked in amber and removed from the business-day count.
Why is the business-day count lower than the number of days I selected?
The calendar-day span counts every date in the range. The business-day count removes the weekend days and any weekday public holidays, so it is almost always lower. The gap is the number of non-working days in your window, which the calendar lists as weekend days and holidays.
