How Alberta differs from the federal Canadian holidays
Alberta has 9 general holidays, also referred to as statutory holidays, as alberta.ca states, and its table gives the same nine dates for 2026, 2027 and 2028 that this calendar uses. Alberta adds Family Day on the third Monday in February and keeps Remembrance Day on 11 November. Alberta.ca lists Easter Monday, Heritage Day (first Monday in August), the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Boxing Day as optional holidays that employers can choose to recognize, so the federal National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Boxing Day are dropped from an Alberta count and Heritage Day is left out. The table gives no substitute date for a holiday on a Saturday, so Christmas Day 2027, and New Year's Day, Canada Day and Remembrance Day in 2028, stay on their Saturday dates and close no weekday.
