Japan's 2027 table carries 16 public holiday entries: 15 of the 16 statutory kokumin no shukujitsu and a furikae kyujitsu substitute on Monday 22 March, because Vernal Equinox Day lands on Sunday 21 March. 16 fall on a weekday and 0 land on a weekend, leaving 245 eigyobi across the year. There is no Citizens' Holiday in 2027.

2027 has 245 eigyobi against 244 in 2026. Both years have the same number of weekdays, so the totals differ only by how many national holidays and substitute days fall on a weekday. Article 5 of the Banking Act Enforcement Order also closes banks from 31 December to 3 January; in 2027 the only weekday of that window that is not already a national holiday is Friday 31 December, so add it under Advanced options if your deadline follows the bank calendar.
Golden Week 2027
Golden Week 2027 splits in two. Showa Day on Thursday 29 April leaves Friday 30 April as the only working day before the weekend, and the second part then runs unbroken for five days, Saturday 1 May to Wednesday 5 May: Constitution Memorial Day on Monday 3 May, Greenery Day on Tuesday 4 May and Children's Day on Wednesday 5 May. Thursday 6 May is the first working day after it.
Banks and markets at the turn of 2027
JPX's 2027 list of market holidays adds 2 January, 3 January and 31 December to the national holidays. The first two fall on a Saturday and a Sunday, so the only one that closes the exchanges on a day this calculator counts is Friday 31 December. Banks keep the same window under the Banking Act Enforcement Order, which makes 31 December to 3 January bank holidays. The year therefore has fewer bank and market closures beyond the national list than 2026, which had two such weekdays.
The equinoxes and the published list
The Act sets the vernal and autumnal equinox days by the astronomical equinox, not by a date, and the Cabinet Office explains that the National Astronomical Observatory announces the coming year's two dates in the Official Gazette each February. For 2027 the Cabinet Office table gives Sunday 21 March, with its substitute day on Monday 22 March under Article 3(2), and Thursday 23 September. The same page says the 2028 list will be posted in February 2027.
