5 Business Days From Today
5 business days from today (October 14, 2026) is:
Wednesday, October 21, 2026
That is 7 calendar days, skipping 2 weekend days.
Based on US federal holidays. Use the calculator below to change country.
Add 5 business days (Monday to Friday, skipping weekends and US federal holidays) to today and you get the result above. The date above is counted from October 14, 2026, when the site was last updated, and the result card recounts it from your local today once the page loads. Use the interactive calculator below to adjust the start date, change the number of days, or switch to a different country’s holiday calendar.
5 business days is one full work week. It is also a real federal deadline in two places: an employer must tell a worker whether they are eligible for FMLA leave within five business days, and an investor crossing five percent of a public company files a Schedule 13D within five business days. To measure the same window in calendar days instead, use our date difference calculator.
Where a five-business-day deadline is actually written down
Most short deadlines in US federal law are written in calendar days. Five business days is one of the exceptions, and it appears in two unrelated corners of the code. Under 29 CFR 825.300(b)(1), an employer that learns of a leave request must notify the employee of FMLA eligibility "within five business days, absent extenuating circumstances". Under 17 CFR 240.13d-1(a), a person who acquires beneficial ownership of more than five percent of a registered class of equity securities must file a Schedule 13D "within five business days after the date of the acquisition".
Both count the way this page counts. A federal business day is Monday through Friday, minus the legal public holidays listed in 5 U.S.C. 6103, and the eCFR definition at 31 CFR 800.203 spells that out: "Monday through Friday, except the legal public holidays specified in 5 U.S.C. 6103". That is the same eleven-holiday set the calculator on this page uses.
The arithmetic at five days
Counted from the reference date this page was built with, using the US federal holiday calendar. Every figure comes from the same engine call that produced the answer at the top.
| Measure | Value |
|---|---|
| Calendar days crossed | 7 days |
| Work weeks | 1 week |
| Calendar weeks | 1 week |
| Calendar months | 0.2 months |
| Weekend days skipped | 2 |
| Public holidays skipped | 0 |
| Result weekday | Wednesday |
The mistake people make at five days
At this length a single holiday is the whole error. Counted from a weekday, five business days across a week with no holiday land seven calendar days out, on the same weekday you started. Put one federal holiday inside it and the answer moves to the next business day: eight calendar days out, or ten when a weekend lies in between, and either way a different weekday. There is no averaging that hides it the way there is at ninety days.
The second trap is the start date. This calculator does not count the day the clock starts: five business days from a Monday is the following Monday, not the Friday of the same week. Check whether your contract or rule counts that day.
Holidays inside this five-day window
No US federal holiday falls inside this window from the reference date, so every skipped day is a Saturday or a Sunday. Switch the country in the calculator above to count against a calendar that does have one.
Five business days on other national calendars
The same five business days, counted against each country's own public holidays and weekend. All seven countries in the table count Monday to Friday, so a row moves away from the US date only where that country closes for a day the United States works, or works a day the United States closes.
