7 business days is a week and a half of working time, not one week. The best-known seven-business-day rule in US law is the mortgage waiting period: a lender must deliver the Loan Estimate no later than the seventh business day before closing. If your seven came from a court rule instead, see our court filings guide, because those sevens are calendar days.
Seven days and seven business days are rarely the same seven
The number seven appears constantly in federal deadlines, and almost all of those sevens are calendar days. The Federal Rules of Civil Procedure were rewritten in 2009 to set short periods in multiples of seven precisely so a deadline lands on the same weekday it started, and Rule 6(a)(1)(B) then says to "count every day, including intermediate Saturdays, Sundays, and legal holidays". The revocation window in an age-discrimination waiver, at least seven days under 29 U.S.C. 626(f)(1)(G), works the same way.
So before you use this page's answer, check which kind of seven you were given. Seven calendar days from a Tuesday is the following Tuesday. Seven business days from that same Tuesday is nine or more calendar days out.
The seven-business-day rule that is genuinely business days
Mortgage lending is the exception, and it is a strict one. Under 12 CFR 1026.19(a)(2)(i) a creditor must "deliver or place in the mail the good faith estimates required by paragraph (a)(1)(i) of this section not later than the seventh business day before consummation of the transaction". That is a floor on how early the paperwork goes out, not a target, and it sits alongside two three-business-day rules in the same regulation: the Loan Estimate goes out within three business days of application under (a)(1)(i), and the borrower must receive the Closing Disclosure at least three business days before closing under (f)(1)(ii)(A).
Anyone scheduling a closing is therefore working two business-day clocks at once, which is the practical reason this page exists. Count them separately and read the answer for each.

The same seven days elsewhere
Seven business days measured against seven other national holiday calendars, from the same start date. A row lands later than the US date when that country closes for a day the United States works, and earlier when the United States closes for a day that country works. Nothing else can separate them here, because all seven keep a Monday-to-Friday week.
