The 2026 table for Ontario lists 9 dates: 8 fall on a weekday and 1 on a weekend. This page's title says statutory holidays, the holidays a statute sets; the Ontario Employment Standards Act guide (ontario.ca) calls them public holidays. That leaves 253 working days in 2026. Like the Canada calculator, this page counts Monday to Friday as working days; what changes is the holiday list.
How Ontario differs from the federal Canadian holidays
The Ontario guide to the Employment Standards Act lists nine public holidays: New Year's Day, Family Day, Good Friday, Victoria Day, Canada Day, Labour Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and Boxing Day (26 December). Against the federal Canadian set that adds Family Day and leaves out the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Remembrance Day, so a count on Ontario's calendar drops those two. The guide adds that an employer who gives Easter Monday, the first Monday in August or Remembrance Day off is not required to by the Act. When a public holiday falls on a day an employee would not ordinarily work, the employee gets a substitute day off no later than three months after the holiday, or up to 12 months after it if the employee has agreed electronically or in writing, or public holiday pay instead if the employee agrees to that electronically or in writing. The guide names no date for the substitute day, so this calendar counts none: a public holiday on a Saturday or Sunday stays on its own date and no weekday is added for it.
