The 1 weekend date in 2024 falls on a Saturday or Sunday, a day the count already excludes, so the working-day reduction comes only from the 12 weekday dates. Schedule 1 to the Public Holidays Act 36 of 1994 lists 12 public holidays, and since the Public Holidays Amendment Act 48 of 1995 a day the President declares by proclamation under section 2A is a public holiday as well. When a public holiday falls on a Sunday, the Act makes the following Monday a public holiday. That is the only weekend rule the government's holiday page states, and this calculator moves no Saturday holiday. In 2024 the table carries a day declared under section 2A: Wednesday May 29.

Days that are not public holidays under the Act, such as school holidays or a company's own closures, are not counted; add them in the calculator's Advanced options.
