Schedule 1 to the Public Holidays Act 36 of 1994 lists 12 public holidays, and since the Public Holidays Amendment Act 48 of 1995 a day the President declares by proclamation under section 2A is a public holiday as well. When a public holiday falls on a Sunday, the Act makes the following Monday a public holiday. That is the only weekend rule the government's holiday page states, and this calculator moves no Saturday holiday.

Days that are not public holidays under the Act, such as school holidays or a company's own closures, are not counted; add them in the calculator's Advanced options.
