Business Days in October 2027 for Canada
October 2027 has 20 business days under the Canadian federal holiday calendar. October 2027 contains one Canadian federal holiday on a weekday. The month covers 31 calendar days, of which 10 are Saturday and Sunday. That count drives invoice cycles, payroll runs, and any contract that defines deadlines as a number of business days in Canada.

Canada October deadlines
Section 2 of the Financial Administration Act defines the federal fiscal year as the period beginning on April 1 in one year and ending on March 31 in the next, so October 1 opens its third quarter. Section 166 of the Canada Labour Code names Thanksgiving Day among its ten general holidays without giving it a date; this site's data lists it on the second Monday in October. The Bank of Canada says it adjusts the target for the overnight rate on eight fixed dates each year. Its schedule for 2027 puts an interest rate announcement and Monetary Policy Report on 27 October, one of four dates that year with a report (January, April, July and October).

Those dates in 2027
Every date named above falls on a working day in 2027 under the Canadian federal calendar. That is worth checking rather than assuming: the same calendar date moves through the week from year to year, so a date that settles cleanly this year may not next year.

Canada reporting cycles and business-day rules
The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) says a remitter type sets how often payroll deductions are remitted and affects the due dates. A regular remitter's due date is the 15th day of the next month. An accelerated Threshold 1 remitter remits up to twice a month: for the 1st to the 15th by the 25th day of the same month, and for the 16th to the end of the month by the 10th day of the next month. An accelerated Threshold 2 remitter remits up to four times a month, by the 3rd working day after the 7th, the 14th, the 21st and the last day of the month. A quarterly remitter's due dates are April 15, July 15, October 15 and January 15. When a due date falls on a Saturday, a Sunday or a public holiday recognized by the CRA, the payment is on time if the CRA receives it, or it is processed at a Canadian financial institution, on or before the next business day. The Toronto Stock Exchange publishes its own list of market closures. Its lists for 2025 and 2026 close the markets on Family Day and the Civic Holiday, which are not among the ten general holidays of section 166 of the Canada Labour Code, and do not list Remembrance Day or the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, which are.

How October 2027 compares year over year
October 2026 had 21 business days, so October 2027 has 1 fewer working day year over year. On the surrounding months, September 2027 has 20 business days and November 2027 has 21. Looking forward, October 2028 has 20 business days under the same Canadian federal holiday calendar.
Using this calculator in Canada
The 20-day count for October 2027 is Monday to Friday less the weekday dates this site's data lists for the ten general holidays that section 166 of the Canada Labour Code lists. The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) states an accelerated Threshold 2 remitter's payroll remittance due dates in working days: the 3rd working day after the 7th, the 14th, the 21st and the last day of the month. For its due dates the CRA recognizes its own list of public holidays. The CRA's list of public holidays includes Easter Monday and a Civic Holiday, neither of which is among the Code's ten general holidays, so this calculator's federal list is not the CRA's list.

How October 2027 is shaped
The headline count answers how many business days October 2027 contains. It does not answer where they sit, and for anything measured in consecutive days rather than cumulative days that second question is the binding one. What follows is derived entirely from the Canadian federal holiday calendar and a working week that treats Saturday and Sunday as the weekend, with no assumption about how any particular obligation behaves.
A 31-day month opening the final quarter
October runs 31 days and opens Q4, the last quarter of the calendar year, so everything deferred earlier arrives inside a period that begins here. It shares its weekday alignment with January in a common year. As a 31-day month it carries three weekdays five times, and which three is decided entirely by the day it opens on.
In October 2027 that comes to 20 business days across 31 calendar days, against 20 in September 2027 and 21 in November 2027.
The month opens on the last day of a working week
October 2027 starts on the final working day of a week. One working day stands between the 1st and the weekend, so the month's real momentum does not begin until the following week. This is the start that most compresses a monthly plan: the calendar has turned, but only one working day has passed before the first closure.
The month's first working day is Friday, October 1, and October 2027 carries 20 business days in total.
One working day stands alone
One working day in October 2027 is walled in on both sides. Friday, October 1 sits between National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30 and the Saturday and Sunday weekend, with no adjacent working day on either side. That single day still counts toward the month's total, but it cannot carry work that needs a second consecutive day, and anything that slips on it slips across a full closure rather than overnight.
The working days of October 2027 arrive in stretches of 1, 5, 4, 5, and 5 days. The longest unbroken stretch runs five days, from October 4 to October 8. A task needing more consecutive business days than that cannot be completed inside a single stretch, whatever the month's total looks like.
The month is back-loaded. It opens with one consecutive day and closes with five, so the room is at the end rather than the start. That is the safer of the two imbalances, because a slip has somewhere to go, but it also makes the opening week a poor sample of the month.
Three weekdays occur five times
A 31-day month contains four full seven-day cycles and three days over, so exactly three weekdays occur five times and the other four occur four times. In October 2027 the three are Sunday, Friday, and Saturday. Which three it is follows entirely from the weekday the month opens on, which is why the working-day count of a 31-day month moves year to year even when its holidays do not.
Only Friday among them is a working day, so part of the surplus is absorbed by the Saturday and Sunday weekend and never reaches the working total. That split is why two months of the same length can carry different working-day counts without any holiday being involved.
One closure, and where it lands
October 2027 carries a single Canadian federal closure on a working day: Thanksgiving on Monday, October 11. A holiday's cost to a month is not only the day it removes; it is also where the removal falls, because the same closure can extend an existing break or cut a working stretch in half.
Placed where it is, the closure also strands a working day: the run structure above shows a stretch of exactly one. That is the expensive shape for a single holiday, because it removes a day and devalues another.
six working days pass before the closure and 14 follow it, which puts the break just short of the month's midpoint. A closure near the middle divides the month into two usable halves rather than trimming one end of it.
The closures around this month
October 2027 carries one Canadian federal closure of its own, and the months on either side add their own. Where a deadline sits close to a month boundary, the closure that moves it is as likely to be outside the month as inside it.
Looking outside the month, the last was National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30, 2027, 1 calendar day before October began and the next is Remembrance Day on November 11, 2027, 11 calendar days after it ends.
Across the whole of 2027 the Canadian federal calendar puts ten closures on working days, of which one falls in October. That ratio, rather than the raw count, is what tells you whether a month is carrying more than its share of the year's downtime.
The month ends over a weekend
October 2027 ends on a Sunday, which this calendar treats as weekend. Month-end processing cannot happen on the last calendar day, so it happens earlier and the last few dates of the month carry no settlement at all. The distance between the final working day and the final calendar day is where month-end reconciliations go missing.
The last working day of October 2027 is Friday, October 29. Counting back from there, the third-to-last is Wednesday, October 27, four calendar days before the month closes.
The working month ends on the last working day of a week, so the final stretch is a complete one and nothing is left hanging mid-week. Two calendar days of October follow it with nothing settling on them.
The quarter opens here
October is the first month of Q4. An opening month sets the baseline the rest of the quarter is measured against, and it is the one month where a slip has two further months to be absorbed in. Quarterly targets divided evenly by three ignore the fact that the three months rarely carry equal working-day counts.
Across the whole quarter there are 62 business days, of which 20 fall in October. The other two months carry November 2027 with 21 and December 2027 with 21. It is the smallest of the three, so the quarter's capacity sits mostly in the other two months and a plan that spreads work evenly across the quarter will over-commit October.
The week's first working day is the scarcest
The first working day of the week is the one October gives least often. Anything anchored to the start of the working week (a weekly kickoff, a Monday-morning cutoff, a start-of-week batch) fires fewer times this month than the calendar count suggests, because a closure has taken one of them out.
Counted as worked rather than as occurring, October 2027 gives Monday 3, Tuesday 4, Wednesday 4, Thursday 4, and Friday 5. A weekly commitment pinned to a particular weekday fires that many times in the month, which is the number a rota needs and not the one the calendar shows.
One of the year's shortest working months
No month of 2027 carries fewer business days than October under the Canadian federal calendar. Two forces set a month's position in that ranking, its length and its closures, and they can either compound or cancel: a long month with several closures and a short month with none can land on the same count.
2027 carries 251 business days in total under the Canadian federal calendar. The longest month of the year is March 2027 with 22 and the shortest is October 2027 with 20, a spread of 2. October ranks 12th of the twelve with 20.
Canada closures across the year
A month's working-day count only means something against the country's whole calendar. Two countries that share a weekend and happen to have the same closure-free month can still run very different years, and Canada is placed as follows.
Across 2027 the Canadian federal closures fall 2 in Q1, 1 in Q2, 3 in Q3, and 4 in Q4. Every holiday in the Canadian federal data for 2027 falls on a working day, so the country's holiday count and its working-day loss are the same number this year, which is not usually the case.
The longest uninterrupted run in the 2027 calendar sits between January 1, 2027 and March 26, 2027, 84 calendar days with no Canadian federal closure in between. Stretches like that are where multi-week work belongs, and they move from year to year whenever a movable holiday does.
Where the month sits in the year's closure pattern
Closures are not spread evenly across a calendar year. They cluster around fixed anniversaries and around whichever lunar or movable feasts a jurisdiction observes, so two adjacent months can carry very different loads, and the Canadian federal calendar is no exception.
2027 opens its Canadian federal closures with New Year's Day on January 1, 2027 and ends them with Boxing Day (observed) on December 28, 2027. The densest month of the year is September 2027 with two closures on working days.
One working day fewer than last year
October 2027 has one business day fewer than October 2026: 20 against 21. On a monthly target that is roughly 5% less working time for the same calendar period, which is the size of gap that shows up as an unexplained miss rather than as a known constraint.
October opens 2026 on a Thursday, 2027 on a Friday, and 2028 on a Sunday. That movement, one weekday in a common year and two after a leap day, is what makes the three counts differ. The number of closures on working days is the same in both years, so the whole of any difference comes from weekday alignment. Looking ahead, October 2028 carries 20 business days.
Where the month's anchor dates fall
Two of the common monthly anchor dates in October 2027 land outside the working week or on a closure. The table below resolves each one against the Canadian federal calendar, together with the first working day on or after it.
| Date | Weekday | Status under the Canadian federal calendar | First working day on or after |
|---|---|---|---|
| October 1 | Friday | Working day | October 1 |
| October 5 | Tuesday | Working day | October 5 |
| October 10 | Sunday | Weekend | October 12, 2027 |
| October 15 | Friday | Working day | October 15 |
| October 20 | Wednesday | Working day | October 20 |
| October 25 | Monday | Working day | October 25 |
| October 31 | Sunday | Weekend | November 1, 2027 |
The final column is arithmetic, not a legal conclusion. Whether an obligation actually moves when its date is not a working day depends on the instrument that sets it, and this site does not assume a shift rule for any jurisdiction. Where a rule is known it is stated in the holiday data methodology and on the country page it applies to.
Net terms dated in October 2027
An invoice dated the 1st of October on calendar-day Net 30 terms comes due on October 31, 2027, which is not a working day under the Canadian federal calendar. A term counted in calendar days can land anywhere in the week, and roughly two days in seven it lands somewhere nothing settles, which is the ordinary reason a payment shows as late by a day or two without anyone being late.
| Invoice date | Net 30, calendar days | Net 60, calendar days |
|---|---|---|
| Dated October 1 | October 31, 2027 (rolls to November 1, 2027) | November 30, 2027 |
| Dated October 15 | November 14, 2027 (rolls to November 15, 2027) | December 14, 2027 |
| Dated October 31 | November 30, 2027 | December 30, 2027 |
Net 30 and Net 60 are commercial conventions rather than statutory periods, and both are counted here in calendar days, which is how they are almost always written. Where a contract counts in working days instead, use the between-dates calculator with the Canada calendar selected, because the two produce different dates whenever a closure falls inside the term.
