India October deadlines

Gandhi Jayanti, 2 October, is a national holiday, and Dussehra and Diwali move with the lunar calendar. A monthly GST taxpayer files GSTR-3B for September by October 20, and a quarterly-scheme taxpayer files the July to September return by October 22 or October 24, depending on its state or union territory. Provident fund contributions for September are remitted within fifteen days of the close of the month, by October 15 (Employees' Provident Funds Scheme, 2026, paragraph 28). Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra, 9 October, are Saturdays in 2027, and Diwali is Friday 29 October.

Those dates in 2027

One of the dates named above does not fall on a working day in 2027 under the Indian Central Government calendar. A fixed calendar date advances through the week year by year, so this resolution holds for 2027 only.

India reporting cycles and business-day rules

This calculator counts Monday to Friday and leaves out the 14 holidays that the Department of Personnel and Training's Office Memorandum on the 2027 holidays (F.No.12/2/2023-JCA, dated 16 July 2026) lists as compulsory for Central Government administrative offices, plus Dr. Ambedkar Jayanti. Paragraph 3.2 of that memorandum allows no substitute holiday when a festival holiday falls on a weekly off or another non-working day, or when more than one festival falls on the same day, and the calculator adds none. Under rule 61 of the CGST Rules, 2017 a monthly GSTR-3B is due on or before the 20th of the following month, and a quarterly one on or before the 22nd or the 24th of the month after the quarter, depending on the state or union territory of the principal place of business. Section 408(1) of the Income-tax Act, 2025 has advance tax paid in four instalments, due on or before 15 June, 15 September, 15 December and 15 March. These pages give those dates as the rule and the section state them and adjust none for a Sunday or a holiday.

October 2027 working days compared by country

Working-day counts vary across countries because each country observes its own public holidays. The table below shows October 2027 under 11 of the site's 25 holiday calendars; the summary above gives India's own count.

How October 2027 compares year over year

October 2026 also had 20 working days, so the working capacity is unchanged year over year. On the surrounding months, September 2027 has 22 working days and November 2027 has 22. Looking forward, October 2028 has 20 working days under the same Indian Central Government holiday calendar.

Using this calculator in India

The 20 working days in October 2027 are the month's Monday-to-Friday days less the dates in this calculator's data: the 14 holidays that are compulsory for Central Government administrative offices and Dr. Ambedkar Jayanti. For a project or contract timeline with a Central Government office, add the three further days that apply to that office under Advanced options. Bank holidays are not this list: the Reserve Bank of India's holiday page marks each holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act separately for each of its regional offices, so for a count that follows a bank, read that office's list.

How October 2027 is shaped

The headline count answers how many working days October 2027 contains. It does not answer where they sit, and for anything measured in consecutive days rather than cumulative days that second question is the binding one. What follows is derived entirely from the Indian Central Government holiday calendar and a working week that treats Saturday and Sunday as the weekend, with no assumption about how any particular obligation behaves.

A 31-day month opening the final quarter

October runs 31 days and opens Q4, the last quarter of the calendar year, so everything deferred earlier arrives inside a period that begins here. It shares its weekday alignment with January in a common year. As a 31-day month it carries three weekdays five times, and which three is decided entirely by the day it opens on.

In October 2027 that comes to 20 working days across 31 calendar days, against 22 in September 2027 and 22 in November 2027.

The month opens on the last day of a working week

October 2027 starts on the final working day of a week. One working day stands between the 1st and the weekend, so the month's real momentum does not begin until the following week. This is the start that most compresses a monthly plan: the calendar has turned, but only one working day has passed before the first closure.

The month's first working day is Friday, October 1, and October 2027 carries 20 working days in total.

Five working stretches

October splits into five working stretches. That is the ordinary shape of a month whose only interruptions are its weekends, and it means the month's internal boundaries are all predictable a year in advance: nothing here depends on a holiday date moving.

The working days of October 2027 arrive in stretches of 1, 5, 5, 5, and 4 days. The longest unbroken stretch runs five days, from October 4 to October 8. A task needing more consecutive working days than that cannot be completed inside a single stretch, whatever the month's total looks like.

The month is back-loaded. It opens with one consecutive day and closes with four, so the room is at the end rather than the start. That is the safer of the two imbalances, because a slip has somewhere to go, but it also makes the opening week a poor sample of the month.

Three weekdays occur five times

A 31-day month contains four full seven-day cycles and three days over, so exactly three weekdays occur five times and the other four occur four times. In October 2027 the three are Sunday, Friday, and Saturday. Which three it is follows entirely from the weekday the month opens on, which is why the working-day count of a 31-day month moves year to year even when its holidays do not.

Only Friday among them is a working day, so part of the surplus is absorbed by the Saturday and Sunday weekend and never reaches the working total. That split is why two months of the same length can carry different working-day counts without any holiday being involved.

One closure, and where it lands

October 2027 carries a single Indian Central Government closure on a working day: Diwali on Friday, October 29. A holiday's cost to a month is not only the day it removes; it is also where the removal falls, because the same closure can extend an existing break or cut a working stretch in half.

It sits directly beside a weekend rather than inside a working week, so it extends an existing break instead of creating a new one. That is the cheapest position a holiday can occupy: the month loses a day but keeps its shape.

20 working days pass before the closure and only 0 follow it. With the break past the midpoint, most of the month's capacity has already been spent when it arrives, so anything the closure displaces competes for a shrinking remainder.

The closures around this month

October 2027 carries one Indian Central Government closure of its own, and the months on either side add their own. Where a deadline sits close to a month boundary, the closure that moves it is as likely to be outside the month as inside it.

Looking outside the month, the last was Muharram on June 16, 2027, 107 calendar days before October began and the next is Republic Day on January 26, 2028, 87 calendar days after it ends.

Across the whole of 2027 the Indian Central Government calendar puts nine closures on working days, of which one falls in October. That ratio, rather than the raw count, is what tells you whether a month is carrying more than its share of the year's downtime.

The month ends over a weekend

October 2027 ends on a Sunday, which this calendar treats as weekend. Month-end processing cannot happen on the last calendar day, so it happens earlier and the last few dates of the month carry no settlement at all. The distance between the final working day and the final calendar day is where month-end reconciliations go missing.

The last working day of October 2027 is Thursday, October 28. Counting back from there, the third-to-last is Tuesday, October 26, five calendar days before the month closes.

The working month ends one day short of a full week, so the closing stretch is nearly complete but the week itself runs on into the next month. Three calendar days of October follow it with nothing settling on them.

The quarter opens here

October is the first month of Q4. An opening month sets the baseline the rest of the quarter is measured against, and it is the one month where a slip has two further months to be absorbed in. Quarterly targets divided evenly by three ignore the fact that the three months rarely carry equal working-day counts.

Across the whole quarter there are 65 working days, of which 20 fall in October. The other two months carry November 2027 with 22 and December 2027 with 23. It is the smallest of the three, so the quarter's capacity sits mostly in the other two months and a plan that spreads work evenly across the quarter will over-commit October.

Every working weekday occurs the same number of times

October 2027 works each weekday of its week the same number of times. That is the flat case, and it is the only one where a weekly recurring commitment costs the same whichever weekday it is pinned to. It happens when the month's length and its closures happen to cancel, not because the month is regular: the calendar census above and this one can agree for quite different reasons.

Counted as worked rather than as occurring, October 2027 gives Monday 4, Tuesday 4, Wednesday 4, Thursday 4, and Friday 4. A weekly commitment pinned to a particular weekday fires that many times in the month, which is the number a rota needs and not the one the calendar shows.

Toward the short end of the year

October sits among the shorter working months of 2027 under the Indian Central Government calendar. A month reaches this end of the ranking either by being short or by absorbing closures, and the two produce the same headline number while behaving differently: a closure fragments the month, a shorter calendar does not.

2027 carries 252 working days in total under the Indian Central Government calendar. The longest month of the year is December 2027 with 23 and the shortest is May 2027 with 19, a spread of 4. October ranks 11th of the twelve with 20.

Inside the year's longest clear run

October 2027 sits inside the longest stretch of 2027 with no Indian Central Government closure in it. Where a month falls relative to its country's closure clusters changes what the same working-day count is worth: an uninterrupted month inside a long clear run behaves differently from one of equal length wedged between two closures.

Across 2027 the Indian Central Government closures fall 3 in Q1, 5 in Q2, 0 in Q3, and 1 in Q4. A further five holidays land on the Saturday and Sunday weekend and cost no working day at all, which is why a country's holiday count and its working-day loss are different numbers.

The longest uninterrupted run in the 2027 calendar sits between June 16, 2027 and October 29, 2027, 135 calendar days with no Indian Central Government closure in between. Stretches like that are where multi-week work belongs, and they move from year to year whenever a movable holiday does.

Where the month sits in the year's closure pattern

Closures are not spread evenly across a calendar year. They cluster around fixed anniversaries and around whichever lunar or movable feasts a jurisdiction observes, so two adjacent months can carry very different loads, and the Indian Central Government calendar is no exception.

2027 opens its Indian Central Government closures with Republic Day on January 26, 2027 and ends them with Diwali on October 29, 2027. The densest month of the year is March 2027 with two closures on working days.

The same count as last year

October 2027 and October 2026 carry the same number of working days, 20 in each. An unchanged total does not mean an unchanged month: the working days sit on different dates and break into different stretches, so a schedule copied forward date by date will not line up even though the capacity has not moved.

October opens 2026 on a Thursday, 2027 on a Friday, and 2028 on a Sunday. The alignment moves every year, by one weekday in a common year and two after a leap day, and here it happens to leave the totals level while changing which dates the working days sit on. The count of closures on working days differs between the two years as well, so alignment is not the only thing moving. Looking ahead, October 2028 carries 20 working days.

Where the month's anchor dates fall

Two of the common monthly anchor dates in October 2027 land outside the working week or on a closure. The table below resolves each one against the Indian Central Government calendar, together with the first working day on or after it.

DateWeekdayStatus under the Indian Central Government calendarFirst working day on or after

The final column is arithmetic, not a legal conclusion. Whether an obligation actually moves when its date is not a working day depends on the instrument that sets it, and this site does not assume a shift rule for any jurisdiction. Where a rule is known it is stated in the holiday data methodology and on the country page it applies to.

Net terms dated in October 2027

An invoice dated the 1st of October on calendar-day Net 30 terms comes due on October 31, 2027, which is not a working day under the Indian Central Government calendar. A term counted in calendar days can land anywhere in the week, and roughly two days in seven it lands somewhere nothing settles, which is the ordinary reason a payment shows as late by a day or two without anyone being late.

Net 30 and Net 60 are commercial conventions rather than statutory periods, and both are counted here in calendar days, which is how they are almost always written. Where a contract counts in working days instead, use the between-dates calculator with the India calendar selected, because the two produce different dates whenever a closure falls inside the term.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many business days are in October 2027 under the Indian Central Government holiday calendar?
October 2027 has 20 working days under the Indian Central Government holiday calendar. The month spans 31 calendar days, of which 10 fall on a weekend and 1 is an Indian Central Government holiday that lands on a weekday. The remaining 20 weekdays are countable as working days for invoicing, deadline tracking, and contract math.
Which India holidays affect October 2027?
October 2027 contains one Indian Central Government holiday: Diwali on Friday, October 29. The calculator skips it. Regional or industry-specific closures may add further non-working days for narrower contract definitions; layer them into the calculator's Advanced options if needed.
Why does this differ from a state-specific Indian calendar?
Because a list for one state carries days this one leaves out. The Department of Personnel and Training's Office Memorandum makes 14 holidays compulsory for Central Government administrative offices. Three more come from a list of 12 optional holidays, selected by the Department for offices in Delhi and by the Central Government Employees Welfare Coordination Committee in each state capital for offices elsewhere, which is how a list reaches 17. For Idu'l Fitr, Idu'l Zuha, Muharram and Id-e-Milad the memorandum authorises those committees to change the date, based on the decision of the state government or union territory concerned; in 2026 the list for Central Government offices in Kerala adopted the four dates from the State list, each one day earlier than the date in this calculator's data. This calculator carries the 14, plus Dr. Ambedkar Jayanti: a separate Office Memorandum of 9 April 2026 (No. 12/4/2020-JCA) declared 14 April 2026 a holiday for all Central Government offices, including industrial establishments, throughout India.
Do Indian banks follow the same holidays?
No. The Department of Personnel and Training's memorandum says that the holidays of banks are regulated by the instructions of the Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance (paragraph 10). The Reserve Bank of India's holiday page marks each holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act office by office, for regional offices from Agartala to Vijayawada, and adds that all scheduled and non-scheduled banks observe a public holiday on the second and fourth Saturdays. This calculator uses the Central Government office list instead: the same 14 holidays are compulsory in every state, although the state committees may change the dates of four of them and three further days differ from place to place.
Why does the business-day count vary year to year?
Two things shift the monthly count for India. First, the day of the week the first of the month lands on changes the count of each weekday. Second, Indian Central Government holidays anchored to a fixed date shift their weekday across years. Some years a fixed-date holiday lands on a weekend; some countries shift the observance to an adjacent weekday and some absorb it into the weekend. October 2026 also had 20 working days, so the working capacity is unchanged year over year.
When is the last working day of October 2027?
The last working day of October 2027 under the Indian Central Government calendar is Thursday, October 28. The month's last calendar day is Sunday, October 31, which is not a working day, so month-end processing has to happen three calendar days earlier than the calendar suggests. Counting back, the third-to-last working day is Tuesday, October 26.
How many working days in a row does October 2027 offer?
October 2027 has 20 working days in total, but they do not run consecutively. They arrive in five stretches of 1, 5, 5, 5, and 4 days, so the longest unbroken run is five days, from October 4 to October 8. No working day in the month is isolated between two closures.
