Genève Public Holidays 2026
Last reviewed: August 26, 2026 · Holiday data: July 23, 2026
Genève observes 9 public holidays in 2026: 8 fall on a weekday and 1 land on a weekend, leaving 253 working days across the year. The working week is Monday to Friday with a Saturday and Sunday weekend, the same as the rest of Switzerland; what changes is the cantonal holiday calendar.
How Genève differs from the national Swiss holidays
Geneva keeps the national Swiss public holidays and adds two civic days of its own: the Jeûne genevois, the Thursday after the first Sunday of September, and the Restauration de la République on 31 December. It does not observe Saint-Étienne (26 December): the official Geneva list ends at 25 December plus 31 December, and 26 December stands in only when Christmas falls on a Sunday, which is not the case in 2026 or 2027. Easter Monday and Whit Monday are both kept. The working week is Monday to Friday with a Saturday and Sunday weekend.
