How Tasmania differs from the national Australian holidays
Tasmania's Statutory Holidays Act 2000 adds to the national set the second Monday in March, known as Eight Hours Day or Labour Day, and Easter Sunday, which section 4(da) has listed since an amendment applied on 9 October 2026 (No. 18 of 2026). The first Easter Sundays after that date are 28 March 2027 and 16 April 2028, and both are in this calendar's tables for those years; Easter Sunday 2026, 5 April, came before the amendment and is not in the 2026 table. A Sunday changes no working-day count. Section 4 does not list Easter Saturday, and it gives Anzac Day as 25 April with no weekend rule, so Saturday 25 April 2026 and Sunday 25 April 2027 bring no extra day. For New Year's Day, Australia Day and Boxing Day the Act names the day itself 'unless that day falls on a Saturday or Sunday', in which case the holiday is the following Monday, or the following Tuesday for a Boxing Day on a Sunday. The weekend date is then not a public holiday, which is why Saturday 26 December 2026, Sunday 26 December 2027 and Saturday 1 January 2028 are not in the list below. Christmas Day is different: 25 December is always a holiday and a Saturday Christmas adds the Monday after, so 2027 has both Saturday 25 and Monday 27 December. Easter Tuesday, under section 6, applies only to persons in a class referred to in section 6 of the Industrial Relations (Commonwealth Powers) Act 2009, so it is not counted. Schedule 1 also sets area holidays, among them the Royal Hobart Regatta in the south and Recreation Day in the parts of Tasmania that do not observe the Regatta; none applies to the whole state, so none is counted.

Tasmania's public holiday rules, applied to 2026
Tasmania adds Eight Hours Day on the second Monday of March (s 4(c)) and, since an amendment that commenced on 9 October 2026, Easter Sunday (s 4(da)). In 2026 those days are Eight Hours Day on Monday, March 9.
25 April is a Saturday in 2026. Under s 4(g), a bare date, no weekday is granted, so the holiday costs no working day this year.
The Statutory Holidays Act 2000 substitutes for a weekend New Year's Day or Boxing Day instead of adding to it. The rule is stated in s 4(a) and (j), which read 'unless ... in which case' and so substitute, while s 4(ia) adds a Monday after a Saturday Christmas. Boxing Day falls on a Saturday, and s 4(j) substitutes Monday, December 28 for it.
Easter Tuesday (Tuesday, April 7 in 2026) is a holiday under s 6 only for persons in a class referred to in section 6 of the Industrial Relations (Commonwealth Powers) Act 2009, so the statewide count treats it as a working day.
Schedule 1 of the Statutory Holidays Act 2000 fixes nine area holidays by rule rather than by date, and in 2026 they fall as follows: Royal Hobart Regatta on Monday, February 9 (the south, from Oatlands and Swansea down, less the West Coast and five named localities), King Island Show on Tuesday, March 3 (King Island), Agfest on Friday, May 8 (Circular Head), Burnie Show on Friday, October 2 (Burnie, Waratah-Wynyard and the West Coast), Royal Launceston Show on Thursday, October 8 (Launceston and six neighbouring municipal areas), Flinders Island Show on Friday, October 16 (Flinders), Royal Hobart Show on Thursday, October 22 (the Regatta's area, with four of its five excluded localities added back), Recreation Day on Monday, November 2 (every part of Tasmania that does not keep the Regatta), and Devonport Show on Friday, November 27 (Devonport, Kentish and Latrobe). Recreation Day covers every part of the state that does not keep the Regatta, so between them the two reach all of Tasmania, yet neither is statewide and neither is in this count.
