Saudi Arabia May deadlines
Eid al-Adha is Article 24's second lunar holiday: four days beginning on the Day of Arafat. Where one of those days falls on the weekly rest day the worker is given an equivalent day before or after the holiday, and the Article leaves the choice of day open, so this calculator adds none. A VAT return for a tax period that ended in April is filed, and the tax paid, by the last day of May. The data puts the Day of Arafat on Saturday 15 May 2027 and the three Eid days on Sunday 16 to Tuesday 18 May, and adds no day for the Saturday. May 31, the VAT date, is a Monday. The Saudi Central Bank's schedule, a separate calendar from this data, gives financial institutions an Eid al-Adha holiday from Sunday 16 to Thursday 20 May 2027, and the riyal interbank express system (RTGS) one from Sunday 16 to Tuesday 18 May.

Those dates in 2027
Every date named above falls on a working day in 2027 under the Saudi public calendar. That is worth checking rather than assuming: the same calendar date moves through the week from year to year, so a date that settles cleanly this year may not next year.

Saudi Arabia reporting cycles and business-day rules
A VAT return is filed, and the tax paid, by the last day of the month after each tax period, and ZATCA's Implementing Regulations of the VAT Law keep that date whether or not it is a working day; a Working Day, as they define it, is any day except Friday, Saturday and a state holiday. The period is monthly for a taxpayer whose taxable supplies exceeded SAR 40 million in the previous twelve months; three months is the standard period for all others, who may apply for a monthly one. A Zakat payer that keeps accounting books submits the Zakat return, and pays the Zakat, within 120 days of the end of the Zakat year, and a period that ends on an official holiday runs to the first working day after it (Implementing Regulations for Zakat Collection, article 102). The income-tax return is due within 120 days of the end of the tax year under article 60 of the Income Tax Law, as ZATCA quotes it. The royal order of 23 June 2013 made Friday and Saturday the weekly holiday in all ministries, government bodies and institutions, financial institutions, the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency, the Capital Market Authority and the Saudi Stock Exchange.

How May 2027 compares year over year
May 2026 had 18 working days, so May 2027 has 1 more working day year over year. On the surrounding months, April 2027 has 22 working days and June 2027 has 22. Looking forward, May 2028 has 21 working days under the same Saudi public holiday calendar.
Using this calculator in Saudi Arabia
Count the 19 business days of May 2027 on the Sunday-to-Thursday week. A royal order of 23 June 2013, as the Saudi Press Agency reported it, made those the official working days in all ministries, government bodies and institutions, financial institutions, the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency, the Capital Market Authority and the Saudi Stock Exchange. Tax dates are not counted in business days: a VAT return is filed, and the tax paid, by the last day of the month after the tax period, whether or not that date is a working day, while the 120 days for the Zakat return, if they end on an official holiday, run on to the first working day after it.

How May 2027 is shaped
The headline count answers how many working days May 2027 contains. It does not answer where they sit, and for anything measured in consecutive days rather than cumulative days that second question is the binding one. What follows is derived entirely from the Saudi public holiday calendar and a working week that treats Friday and Saturday as the weekend, with no assumption about how any particular obligation behaves.
The middle month of the second quarter
May runs 31 days and sits in the middle of Q2, the position with neither a quarter opening nor a quarter close to anchor it. It shares its weekday alignment with January in a common year, so the two months carry the same underlying structure twelve months apart. A 31-day month always carries three weekdays five times, which is what makes its working-day count the most sensitive of the four month lengths to where it starts.
In May 2027 that comes to 19 working days across 31 calendar days, against 21 in April 2027 and 22 in June 2027.
The month opens across a weekend
The 1st of May is a Saturday, a weekend day under the Saudi public calendar, whose week runs against a Friday and Saturday weekend. Nothing that settles on working days moves on it. A month that opens this way loses its first working day to the calendar before any holiday is counted, and monthly cycles keyed to the 1st all resolve forward to the same date, which concentrates them.
The month's first working day is Sunday, May 2, and May 2027 carries 19 working days in total.
Five working stretches
May splits into five working stretches. That is the ordinary shape of a month whose only interruptions are its weekends, and it means the month's internal boundaries are all predictable a year in advance: nothing here depends on a holiday date moving.
The working days of May 2027 arrive in stretches of 5, 5, 2, 5, and 2 days. The longest unbroken stretch runs five days, from May 2 to May 6. A task needing more consecutive working days than that cannot be completed inside a single stretch, whatever the month's total looks like.
The month is front-loaded. It opens with five consecutive days and closes with two, so capacity thins toward the end. Work deferred out of the first stretch arrives in a shorter one, which is how a schedule that looked comfortable in week one stops fitting.
Three weekdays occur five times
A 31-day month contains four full seven-day cycles and three days over, so exactly three weekdays occur five times and the other four occur four times. In May 2027 the three are Sunday, Monday, and Saturday. Which three it is follows entirely from the weekday the month opens on, which is why the working-day count of a 31-day month moves year to year even when its holidays do not.
Only Sunday and Monday among them are working days, so part of the surplus is absorbed by the Friday and Saturday weekend and never reaches the working total. That split is why two months of the same length can carry different working-day counts without any holiday being involved.
A month with several closures
May 2027 carries three Saudi public closures on working days: Eid al-Adha (day 1) on May 16, Eid al-Adha (day 2) on May 17, and Eid al-Adha (day 3) on May 18. At this density the month's working-day total stops being a useful planning number on its own, because the days that remain are cut into short stretches rather than distributed evenly.
The run structure above is the figure to plan against. Where several closures cluster, a month can hold a respectable total and still offer no stretch long enough for a multi-day deliverable, and only the run lengths show that.
ten working days pass before the closure and only 9 follow it. With the break past the midpoint, most of the month's capacity has already been spent when it arrives, so anything the closure displaces competes for a shrinking remainder.
The closures around this month
May 2027 carries three Saudi public closures of its own, and the months on either side add their own. Where a deadline sits close to a month boundary, the closure that moves it is as likely to be outside the month as inside it.
Looking outside the month, the last was Eid al-Fitr (day 3) on March 11, 2027, 51 calendar days before May began and the next is Saudi National Day on September 23, 2027, 115 calendar days after it ends.
Across the whole of 2027 the Saudi public calendar puts eight closures on working days, of which three fall in May. That ratio, rather than the raw count, is what tells you whether a month is carrying more than its share of the year's downtime.
An early-week close
May runs out after the second working day of its last week. Most of that week belongs to the next month, so the tail of May 2027 is unusually thin: two working days carry whatever the month-end process needs, and the week's remaining capacity is not available to this period.
The last working day of May 2027 is Monday, May 31. Counting back from there, the third-to-last is Thursday, May 27, four calendar days before the month closes.
The middle month of the quarter
May is the middle month of Q2. Middle months carry the least visibility in a quarterly cycle: the opening month sets expectations and the closing month is where they are settled, so a shortfall here is the one most likely to be noticed late.
Across the whole quarter there are 62 working days, of which 19 fall in May. The other two months carry April 2027 with 21 and June 2027 with 22. It is the smallest of the three, so the quarter's capacity sits mostly in the other two months and a plan that spreads work evenly across the quarter will over-commit May.
The middle of the working week is the scarcest
The third working day of the week is the one May gives least often. Mid-week scarcity is the easiest kind to absorb, because work pinned to the middle of a week can usually move a day in either direction without crossing a weekend.
Counted as worked rather than as occurring, May 2027 gives Sunday 4, Monday 4, Tuesday 3, Wednesday 4, and Thursday 4. A weekly commitment pinned to a particular weekday fires that many times in the month, which is the number a rota needs and not the one the calendar shows.
One of the year's shortest working months
No month of 2027 carries fewer working days than May under the Saudi public calendar. Two forces set a month's position in that ranking, its length and its closures, and they can either compound or cancel: a long month with several closures and a short month with none can land on the same count.
2027 carries 252 working days in total under the Saudi public calendar. The longest month of the year is August 2027 with 23 and the shortest is May 2027 with 19, a spread of 4. May ranks 12th of the twelve with 19.
Inside one of the year's denser months
May 2027 carries more than one Saudi public closure, which puts it among the year's denser months. Closures are never spread evenly across a year, so a month's own count says as much about the country's calendar as about the month.
Across 2027 the Saudi public closures fall 4 in Q1, 3 in Q2, 1 in Q3, and 0 in Q4. A further two holidays land on the Friday and Saturday weekend and cost no working day at all, which is why a country's holiday count and its working-day loss are different numbers.
The longest uninterrupted run in the 2027 calendar sits between May 18, 2027 and September 23, 2027, 128 calendar days with no Saudi public closure in between. Stretches like that are where multi-week work belongs, and they move from year to year whenever a movable holiday does.
Where the month sits in the year's closure pattern
Closures are not spread evenly across a calendar year. They cluster around fixed anniversaries and around whichever lunar or movable feasts a jurisdiction observes, so two adjacent months can carry very different loads, and the Saudi public calendar is no exception.
2027 opens its Saudi public closures with Founding Day on February 22, 2027 and ends them with Saudi National Day on September 23, 2027. The densest month of the year is March 2027 with three closures on working days.
One working day more than last year
There is one more working day in May 2027 than in May 2026: 19 against 18. A single-day swing is the ordinary case, produced by the calendar shifting forward one weekday between consecutive common years, and it is large enough to matter to a monthly target and small enough to be missed.
May opens 2026 on a Friday, 2027 on a Saturday, and 2028 on a Monday. That movement, one weekday in a common year and two after a leap day, is what makes the three counts differ. The number of closures on working days is the same in both years, so the whole of any difference comes from weekday alignment. Looking ahead, May 2028 carries 21 working days.
Where the month's anchor dates fall
Two of the common monthly anchor dates in May 2027 land outside the working week or on a closure. The table below resolves each one against the Saudi public calendar, together with the first working day on or after it.
| Date | Weekday | Status under the Saudi public calendar | First working day on or after |
|---|---|---|---|
| May 1 | Saturday | Weekend | May 2, 2027 |
| May 5 | Wednesday | Working day | May 5 |
| May 10 | Monday | Working day | May 10 |
| May 15 | Saturday | Closed: Arafat Day | May 19, 2027 |
| May 20 | Thursday | Working day | May 20 |
| May 25 | Tuesday | Working day | May 25 |
| May 31 | Monday | Working day | May 31 |
The final column is arithmetic, not a legal conclusion. Whether an obligation actually moves when its date is not a working day depends on the instrument that sets it, and this site does not assume a shift rule for any jurisdiction. Where a rule is known it is stated in the holiday data methodology and on the country page it applies to.
Net terms dated in May 2027
An invoice dated the 1st of May on calendar-day Net 30 terms comes due on May 31, 2027, a working day under the Saudi public calendar. Terms counted in calendar days move independently of the working week, so the same term written on two consecutive months can settle cleanly in one and roll across a closure in the other.
| Invoice date | Net 30, calendar days | Net 60, calendar days |
|---|---|---|
| Dated May 1 | May 31, 2027 | June 30, 2027 |
| Dated May 15 | June 14, 2027 | July 14, 2027 |
| Dated May 31 | June 30, 2027 | July 30, 2027 (rolls to August 1, 2027) |
Net 30 and Net 60 are commercial conventions rather than statutory periods, and both are counted here in calendar days, which is how they are almost always written. Where a contract counts in working days instead, use the between-dates calculator with the Saudi Arabia calendar selected, because the two produce different dates whenever a closure falls inside the term.
