días de descanso obligatorio in May 2027
No Mexican federal holidays fall on a weekday in May 2027, so the month loses no working day to a holiday on this calendar.
Mexico May deadlines
Día del Trabajo on May 1 is one of the fixed dates Article 74 keeps outside the Monday rule, and the CNBV closes banks and the exchanges for it. Día de las Madres on May 10 is widely observed but appears in neither list: it is not among the nine fracciones of Article 74 and not among the days the CNBV requires financial entities to close, so banks keep normal hours. April withholding and IMSS cuotas are due May 17, and so are INFONAVIT aportaciones for the March-April bimester.

Mexico reporting cycles and business-day rules
Whoever pays salaries must withhold ISR and remit it monthly under Article 96 of the Ley del Impuesto sobre la Renta, and Article 6, fracción I, of the Código Fiscal de la Federación sets the 17th of the following calendar month for withheld contributions where no provision gives another date. IMSS cuotas obrero patronales are to be paid by the 17th of the following month under Article 39 of the Ley del Seguro Social. Two contributions share that day but not that frequency: INFONAVIT aportaciones, whose periodicity the sixth transitional article of the 1997 reform keeps bimonthly until the Ley del ISSSTE sets monthly payment, and the IMSS retiro, cesantía en edad avanzada y vejez cuotas, which the Ley del Seguro Social's own vigésimo séptimo transitorio keeps bimonthly until the payment periods of the ISSSTE and INFONAVIT laws are aligned. Both fall due by the 17th of January, March, May, July, September and November. Article 21 of the Ley del ISSSTE still sets its own retirement and housing payments by two-month periods, due by the 17th of the same six months. A tax period whose last day is a día inhábil runs to the next día hábil under Article 12 of the Código Fiscal de la Federación, whose list of días inhábiles is not Article 74's. For a filer who qualifies, the 17th is where the count starts rather than where it ends: article 5.1 of the decree published in the Diario Oficial de la Federación on 26 December 2013 allows provisional or definitive federal returns that are due by the 17th of the following month to be filed one to five días hábiles later, set by the sixth numeric digit of the RFC. In the text published that day, the same article excludes taxpayers who opt to have their financial statements audited (dictaminados) and those of Article 32-H of the Código, the taxpayers it names by reference to Article 20, part B, of the Reglamento Interior del Servicio de Administración Tributaria, the Federation and the states, their decentralised bodies and majority state-owned companies (with the states' parastatal funds and trusts), political parties and associations, and integrated and integrating companies. Article 74 of the Ley Federal del Trabajo lists the días de descanso obligatorio in nine fracciones, three of which a reform published in the Diario Oficial de la Federación on 17 January 2006 set on Mondays: the first Monday of February, the third Monday of March and the third Monday of November. Banks follow a separate list. In the Diario Oficial de la Federación of 10 December 2025 the Comisión Nacional Bancaria y de Valores published the days of 2026 on which the financial entities it supervises must close their doors and suspend operations. Besides Saturdays, Sundays and the Article 74 dates, that list has four dates Article 74 does not: 2 and 3 April (Maundy Thursday and Good Friday), 2 November and 12 December. This calculator uses the Article 74 set.

How May 2027 compares year over year
May 2026 had 20 días hábiles, so May 2027 has 1 more working day year over year. On the surrounding months, April 2027 has 22 días hábiles and June 2027 has 22. Looking forward, May 2028 has 22 días hábiles under the same Mexican federal holiday calendar.
Using this calculator in Mexico
The 21-day count for May 2027 is this calculator's count of días hábiles: Monday to Friday less the días de descanso obligatorio in Article 74 of the Ley Federal del Trabajo. That is this tool's rule, not a general legal definition: Article 74 lists days of mandatory rest and does not define a día hábil. Use the count to plan the work that has to fit before the 17th, the day several monthly obligations share: ISR withheld from salaries, which Article 96 of the Ley del Impuesto sobre la Renta has the payer remit monthly and Article 6, fracción I, of the Código Fiscal de la Federación dates to the 17th of the following calendar month where no provision gives another date, and IMSS cuotas obrero patronales under Article 39 of the Ley del Seguro Social. INFONAVIT aportaciones, whose periodicity the sixth transitional article of the 1997 reform keeps bimonthly until the Ley del ISSSTE sets monthly payment, fall due by the 17th of January, March, May, July, September and November. Banks follow a separate list, which this calculator does not apply: the one the Comisión Nacional Bancaria y de Valores published for 2026 has four dates Article 74 does not.

How May 2027 is shaped
The headline count answers how many días hábiles May 2027 contains. It does not answer where they sit, and for anything measured in consecutive days rather than cumulative days that second question is the binding one. What follows is derived entirely from the Mexican federal holiday calendar and a working week that treats sábado and domingo as the weekend, with no assumption about how any particular obligation behaves.
The middle month of the second quarter
May runs 31 days and sits in the middle of Q2, the position with neither a quarter opening nor a quarter close to anchor it. It shares its weekday alignment with January in a common year, so the two months carry the same underlying structure twelve months apart. A 31-day month always carries three weekdays five times, which is what makes its working-day count the most sensitive of the four month lengths to where it starts.
In May 2027 that comes to 21 días hábiles across 31 calendar days, against 22 in April 2027 and 22 in June 2027.
The month opens across a weekend
The 1st of May is a Saturday, a weekend day under the Mexican federal calendar, whose week runs against a sábado and domingo weekend. Nothing that settles on working days moves on it. A month that opens this way loses its first working day to the calendar before any holiday is counted, and monthly cycles keyed to the 1st all resolve forward to the same date, which concentrates them.
The month's first working day is Monday, May 3, and May 2027 carries 21 días hábiles in total.
Five working stretches
May splits into five working stretches. That is the ordinary shape of a month whose only interruptions are its weekends, and it means the month's internal boundaries are all predictable a year in advance: nothing here depends on a holiday date moving.
The working days of May 2027 arrive in stretches of 5, 5, 5, 5, and 1 day. The longest unbroken stretch runs five days, from May 3 to May 7. A task needing more consecutive días hábiles than that cannot be completed inside a single stretch, whatever the month's total looks like.
The month is front-loaded. It opens with five consecutive days and closes with one, so capacity thins toward the end. Work deferred out of the first stretch arrives in a shorter one, which is how a schedule that looked comfortable in week one stops fitting.
Three weekdays occur five times
A 31-day month contains four full seven-day cycles and three days over, so exactly three weekdays occur five times and the other four occur four times. In May 2027 the three are Sunday, Monday, and Saturday. Which three it is follows entirely from the weekday the month opens on, which is why the working-day count of a 31-day month moves year to year even when its holidays do not.
Only Monday among them is a working day, so part of the surplus is absorbed by the sábado and domingo weekend and never reaches the working total. That split is why two months of the same length can carry different working-day counts without any holiday being involved.
Every holiday this month falls on the weekend
May 2027 does contain a Mexican federal holiday, but it lands on the weekend (sábado and domingo under this calendar): Día del Trabajo on Saturday, May 1. A holiday costs a working day only when it displaces one, so a weekend-falling holiday leaves the month's count untouched.
Whether the day off is recovered on an adjacent weekday depends on the substitution rule of the jurisdiction, which varies and is not assumed here. This calculator counts only the dates its holiday data publishes, and for May 2027 that data lists no Mexican federal closure on a working day. Where a substitute weekday is granted, the data set carries it as a separate entry with its own date.
A long stretch with no closure at all
May 2027 sits inside an unusually long run without a Mexican federal closure. Neither the month itself nor either edge of it carries one within a month, which means the working-day count here is set by the weekend pattern alone and will repeat exactly in any year with the same alignment.
Looking outside the month, the last was Natalicio de Benito Juárez on March 15, 2027, 47 calendar days before May began and the next is Día de la Independencia on September 16, 2027, 108 calendar days after it ends.
Across the whole of 2027 the Mexican federal calendar puts five closures on working days, of which none falls in May. That ratio, rather than the raw count, is what tells you whether a month is carrying more than its share of the year's downtime.
The month ends where a week begins
The final calendar day of May 2027 is the first working day of a week. A single working day of that week belongs to May and the rest to the month following, which is the least amount of closing capacity a month can have. Anything that must be done "in the last week" of May really has to be done before the preceding weekend.
The last working day of May 2027 is Monday, May 31. Counting back from there, the third-to-last is Thursday, May 27, four calendar days before the month closes.
The middle month of the quarter
May is the middle month of Q2. Middle months carry the least visibility in a quarterly cycle: the opening month sets expectations and the closing month is where they are settled, so a shortfall here is the one most likely to be noticed late.
Across the whole quarter there are 65 días hábiles, of which 21 fall in May. The other two months carry April 2027 with 22 and June 2027 with 22. It is the smallest of the three, so the quarter's capacity sits mostly in the other two months and a plan that spreads work evenly across the quarter will over-commit May.
The week's second working day is the scarcest
The second working day of the week is the one May gives least often. Weekly cycles that run one day behind the start of the week, which is where most reporting handovers sit, lose an occurrence relative to the rest.
Counted as worked rather than as occurring, May 2027 gives Monday 5, Tuesday 4, Wednesday 4, Thursday 4, and Friday 4. A weekly commitment pinned to a particular weekday fires that many times in the month, which is the number a rota needs and not the one the calendar shows.
Where the month sits in the year
May sits in the middle of 2027 by working-day count under the Mexican federal calendar. The middle of that ranking is where a month's total is least informative on its own, because a mid-ranked month can be a long month carrying closures or a short one carrying none, and the two need different plans.
2027 carries 256 días hábiles in total under the Mexican federal calendar. The longest month of the year is December 2027 with 23 and the shortest is February 2027 with 19, a spread of 4. May ranks 7th of the twelve with 21.
Inside the year's longest clear run
May 2027 sits inside the longest stretch of 2027 with no Mexican federal closure in it. Where a month falls relative to its country's closure clusters changes what the same working-day count is worth: an uninterrupted month inside a long clear run behaves differently from one of equal length wedged between two closures.
Across 2027 the Mexican federal closures fall 3 in Q1, 0 in Q2, 1 in Q3, and 1 in Q4. A further two holidays land on the sábado and domingo weekend and cost no working day at all, which is why a country's holiday count and its working-day loss are different numbers.
The longest uninterrupted run in the 2027 calendar sits between March 15, 2027 and September 16, 2027, 185 calendar days with no Mexican federal closure in between. Stretches like that are where multi-week work belongs, and they move from year to year whenever a movable holiday does.
Where the month sits in the year's closure pattern
Closures are not spread evenly across a calendar year. They cluster around fixed anniversaries and around whichever lunar or movable feasts a jurisdiction observes, so two adjacent months can carry very different loads, and the Mexican federal calendar is no exception.
2027 opens its Mexican federal closures with Año Nuevo on January 1, 2027 and ends them with Día de la Revolución on November 15, 2027. The densest month of the year is January 2027 with one closure on working days.
One working day more than last year
There is one more días hábile in May 2027 than in May 2026: 21 against 20. A single-day swing is the ordinary case, produced by the calendar shifting forward one weekday between consecutive common years, and it is large enough to matter to a monthly target and small enough to be missed.
May opens 2026 on a Friday, 2027 on a Saturday, and 2028 on a Monday. That movement, one weekday in a common year and two after a leap day, is what makes the three counts differ. The count of closures on working days differs between the two years as well, so alignment is not the only thing moving. Looking ahead, May 2028 carries 22 días hábiles.
Where the month's anchor dates fall
Two of the common monthly anchor dates in May 2027 land outside the working week or on a closure. The table below resolves each one against the Mexican federal calendar, together with the first working day on or after it.
| Date | Weekday | Status under the Mexican federal calendar | First working day on or after |
|---|---|---|---|
| May 1 | Saturday | Closed: Día del Trabajo | May 3, 2027 |
| May 5 | Wednesday | Working day | May 5 |
| May 10 | Monday | Working day | May 10 |
| May 15 | Saturday | Weekend | May 17, 2027 |
| May 20 | Thursday | Working day | May 20 |
| May 25 | Tuesday | Working day | May 25 |
| May 31 | Monday | Working day | May 31 |
The final column is arithmetic, not a legal conclusion. Whether an obligation actually moves when its date is not a working day depends on the instrument that sets it, and this site does not assume a shift rule for any jurisdiction. Where a rule is known it is stated in the holiday data methodology and on the country page it applies to.
Net terms dated in May 2027
An invoice dated the 1st of May on calendar-day Net 30 terms comes due on May 31, 2027, a working day under the Mexican federal calendar. Terms counted in calendar days move independently of the working week, so the same term written on two consecutive months can settle cleanly in one and roll across a closure in the other.
| Invoice date | Net 30, calendar days | Net 60, calendar days |
|---|---|---|
| Dated May 1 | May 31, 2027 | June 30, 2027 |
| Dated May 15 | June 14, 2027 | July 14, 2027 |
| Dated May 31 | June 30, 2027 | July 30, 2027 |
Net 30 and Net 60 are commercial conventions rather than statutory periods, and both are counted here in calendar days, which is how they are almost always written. Where a contract counts in working days instead, use the between-dates calculator with the Mexico calendar selected, because the two produce different dates whenever a closure falls inside the term.
