45 business days is nine work weeks. Two well-known federal forty-fives exist and both count calendar days, which makes this a period worth checking before you rely on it.
The same regulation, two different kinds of day
Regulation E is the cleanest example anywhere in federal law of why this distinction matters, because it puts both kinds of period in adjacent paragraphs. Under 12 CFR 1005.11(c)(1) a bank must determine whether an error occurred "within 10 business days of receiving a notice of error". Under (c)(2), if it cannot, it "may take up to 45 days from receipt of a notice of error to investigate", provided it provisionally credits the account "within 10 business days of receiving the error notice". Ten business days, forty-five days, ten business days again, in one rule.
The second forty-five is in age-discrimination law. Where a severance waiver is offered in connection with an exit incentive programme for a group of employees, 29 U.S.C. 626(f)(1)(F)(ii) requires that the individual be given "a period of at least 45 days within which to consider the agreement", against twenty-one days for an individual offer under (f)(1)(F)(i). Both are calendar days.

A claim this page used to make
This page previously described forty-five business days as a typical window for SEC filing amendments. That was unsourced and has been removed. Periodic report deadlines are set in the general instructions to the relevant form and depend on filer status, not on any forty-five-business-day rule, and we will not restate a number here that we have not read in the original.
Nine work weeks on other national calendars
Long enough that a country's holiday density, not its weekend, drives the difference.
