India April deadlines
A monthly GST taxpayer files GSTR-3B for March by April 20, and a quarterly-scheme taxpayer files the January to March return by April 22 or April 24, depending on its state or union territory. Dr. Ambedkar Jayanti, 14 April, was declared a holiday for Central Government offices throughout India by an order of 9 April 2026. Provident fund contributions for March are remitted within fifteen days of the close of the month, by April 15 (Employees' Provident Funds Scheme, 2026, paragraph 28). In this calculator's data Mahavir Jayanti is Monday 19 April 2027, and 14 April is marked unconfirmed until an order for 2027 is read.

India reporting cycles and business-day rules
This calculator counts Monday to Friday and leaves out the 14 holidays that the Department of Personnel and Training's Office Memorandum on the 2027 holidays (F.No.12/2/2023-JCA, dated 16 July 2026) lists as compulsory for Central Government administrative offices, plus Dr. Ambedkar Jayanti. Paragraph 3.2 of that memorandum allows no substitute holiday when a festival holiday falls on a weekly off or another non-working day, or when more than one festival falls on the same day, and the calculator adds none. Under rule 61 of the CGST Rules, 2017 a monthly GSTR-3B is due on or before the 20th of the following month, and a quarterly one on or before the 22nd or the 24th of the month after the quarter, depending on the state or union territory of the principal place of business. Section 408(1) of the Income-tax Act, 2025 has advance tax paid in four instalments, due on or before 15 June, 15 September, 15 December and 15 March. These pages give those dates as the rule and the section state them and adjust none for a Sunday or a holiday.

How April 2027 compares year over year
April 2026 also had 20 working days, so the working capacity is unchanged year over year. On the surrounding months, March 2027 has 21 working days and May 2027 has 19. Looking forward, April 2028 has 18 working days under the same Indian Central Government holiday calendar.
Using this calculator in India
The 20 working days in April 2027 are the month's Monday-to-Friday days less the dates in this calculator's data: the 14 holidays that are compulsory for Central Government administrative offices and Dr. Ambedkar Jayanti. For a project or contract timeline with a Central Government office, add the three further days that apply to that office under Advanced options. Bank holidays are not this list: the Reserve Bank of India's holiday page marks each holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act separately for each of its regional offices, so for a count that follows a bank, read that office's list.

How April 2027 is shaped
The headline count answers how many working days April 2027 contains. It does not answer where they sit, and for anything measured in consecutive days rather than cumulative days that second question is the binding one. What follows is derived entirely from the Indian Central Government holiday calendar and a working week that treats Saturday and Sunday as the weekend, with no assumption about how any particular obligation behaves.
A 30-day month opening the second quarter
April runs 30 days and opens Q2. It shares its weekday alignment with July in every year, so the two months have the same internal shape before holidays are applied, and any difference between their working-day counts comes entirely from closures rather than from the calendar. April is also one of the four months that begin a quarter, which puts its first working day at the head of a reporting period.
In April 2027 that comes to 20 working days across 30 calendar days, against 21 in March 2027 and 19 in May 2027.
A late-week start
The month opens on the fourth working day of the week, which leaves only a short tail before the first weekend. The practical consequence is that the month's first genuinely full working week does not begin on the 1st at all. Anything scoped as "we have the first week to do this" has materially less time than the phrase suggests, and the shortfall is visible in the opening run below.
The opening stretch runs from Thursday, April 1 to April 2, two working days before the first break. April 2027 carries 20 working days in total, so that opening block is 10% of the month's working capacity.
Six working stretches
The month's working days fall into six stretches. Six is the shape a month takes when its weekends divide it evenly and at least one closure lands inside a working week rather than beside one, so the fragmentation is not simply a function of the month's length.
The working days of April 2027 arrive in stretches of 2, 5, 2, 2, 4, and 5 days. The longest unbroken stretch runs five days, from April 5 to April 9. A task needing more consecutive working days than that cannot be completed inside a single stretch, whatever the month's total looks like.
The month is back-loaded. It opens with two consecutive days and closes with five, so the room is at the end rather than the start. That is the safer of the two imbalances, because a slip has somewhere to go, but it also makes the opening week a poor sample of the month.
Two weekdays occur five times
Thirty days is four seven-day cycles plus two, so a 30-day month has exactly two weekdays occurring five times and five occurring four times. Here they are Thursday and Friday. The pair is always consecutive, because the surplus days are the first two of the month repeated at its end.
All of them are working days here, so the surplus lands entirely on the working week: Thursday and Friday each occur 5 times. Had the surplus fallen on the weekend instead, the same month would carry 18 working days rather than 20.
Two closures in the month
Two Indian Central Government holidays fall on working days in April 2027: Dr. Ambedkar Jayanti (unconfirmed) on Wednesday, April 14 and Mahavir Jayanti on Monday, April 19. Two closures remove two days from the total, but their effect on the month's usable structure depends on how far apart they are.
They sit 5 calendar days apart, which puts them in different working weeks. Two closures in separate weeks cost the same total as two in one week and do less damage to any single stretch, so the month's longest run survives better than the count alone suggests.
nine working days pass before the closure and 11 follow it, which puts the break just short of the month's midpoint. A closure near the middle divides the month into two usable halves rather than trimming one end of it.
The closures around this month
April 2027 carries two Indian Central Government closures of its own, and the months on either side add their own. Where a deadline sits close to a month boundary, the closure that moves it is as likely to be outside the month as inside it.
Looking outside the month, the last was Good Friday on March 26, 2027, 6 calendar days before April began and the next is Eid ul-Adha on May 17, 2027, 17 calendar days after it ends.
Across the whole of 2027 the Indian Central Government calendar puts nine closures on working days, of which two fall in April. That ratio, rather than the raw count, is what tells you whether a month is carrying more than its share of the year's downtime.
The working month and the calendar month end together
The month's last calendar day is also the last working day of a week. Month-end and week-end fall on the same date in April 2027, which is the one alignment where a weekly close and a monthly close cannot be separated. Everything queued for both runs on the same day, and there is no working day left in April to absorb a slip.
The last working day of April 2027 is Friday, April 30. Counting back from there, the third-to-last is Wednesday, April 28, two calendar days before the month closes.
The quarter opens here
April is the first month of Q2. An opening month sets the baseline the rest of the quarter is measured against, and it is the one month where a slip has two further months to be absorbed in. Quarterly targets divided evenly by three ignore the fact that the three months rarely carry equal working-day counts.
Across the whole quarter there are 60 working days, of which 20 fall in April. The other two months carry May 2027 with 19 and June 2027 with 21. It sits between the other two, which makes it the month where a quarterly plan is least likely to be thrown off by the calendar alone.
The week's first working day is the scarcest
The first working day of the week is the one April gives least often. Anything anchored to the start of the working week (a weekly kickoff, a Monday-morning cutoff, a start-of-week batch) fires fewer times this month than the calendar count suggests, because a closure has taken one of them out.
Counted as worked rather than as occurring, April 2027 gives Monday 3, Tuesday 4, Wednesday 3, Thursday 5, and Friday 5. A weekly commitment pinned to a particular weekday fires that many times in the month, which is the number a rota needs and not the one the calendar shows.
Toward the short end of the year
April sits among the shorter working months of 2027 under the Indian Central Government calendar. A month reaches this end of the ranking either by being short or by absorbing closures, and the two produce the same headline number while behaving differently: a closure fragments the month, a shorter calendar does not.
2027 carries 252 working days in total under the Indian Central Government calendar. The longest month of the year is December 2027 with 23 and the shortest is May 2027 with 19, a spread of 4. April ranks 10th of the twelve with 20.
Inside one of the year's denser months
April 2027 carries more than one Indian Central Government closure, which puts it among the year's denser months. Closures are never spread evenly across a year, so a month's own count says as much about the country's calendar as about the month.
Across 2027 the Indian Central Government closures fall 3 in Q1, 5 in Q2, 0 in Q3, and 1 in Q4. A further five holidays land on the Saturday and Sunday weekend and cost no working day at all, which is why a country's holiday count and its working-day loss are different numbers.
The longest uninterrupted run in the 2027 calendar sits between June 16, 2027 and October 29, 2027, 135 calendar days with no Indian Central Government closure in between. Stretches like that are where multi-week work belongs, and they move from year to year whenever a movable holiday does.
Where the month sits in the year's closure pattern
Closures are not spread evenly across a calendar year. They cluster around fixed anniversaries and around whichever lunar or movable feasts a jurisdiction observes, so two adjacent months can carry very different loads, and the Indian Central Government calendar is no exception.
2027 opens its Indian Central Government closures with Republic Day on January 26, 2027 and ends them with Diwali on October 29, 2027. The densest month of the year is March 2027 with two closures on working days.
The same count as last year
April 2027 and April 2026 carry the same number of working days, 20 in each. An unchanged total does not mean an unchanged month: the working days sit on different dates and break into different stretches, so a schedule copied forward date by date will not line up even though the capacity has not moved.
April opens 2026 on a Wednesday, 2027 on a Thursday, and 2028 on a Saturday. That movement, one weekday in a common year and two after a leap day, is what makes the three counts differ. The number of closures on working days is the same in both years, so the whole of any difference comes from weekday alignment. Looking ahead, April 2028 carries 18 working days.
Where the month's anchor dates fall
Two of the common monthly anchor dates in April 2027 land outside the working week or on a closure. The table below resolves each one against the Indian Central Government calendar, together with the first working day on or after it.
| Date | Weekday | Status under the Indian Central Government calendar | First working day on or after |
|---|---|---|---|
| April 1 | Thursday | Working day | April 1 |
| April 5 | Monday | Working day | April 5 |
| April 10 | Saturday | Weekend | April 12, 2027 |
| April 15 | Thursday | Working day | April 15 |
| April 20 | Tuesday | Working day | April 20 |
| April 25 | Sunday | Weekend | April 26, 2027 |
| April 30 | Friday | Working day | April 30 |
The final column is arithmetic, not a legal conclusion. Whether an obligation actually moves when its date is not a working day depends on the instrument that sets it, and this site does not assume a shift rule for any jurisdiction. Where a rule is known it is stated in the holiday data methodology and on the country page it applies to.
Net terms dated in April 2027
An invoice dated the 1st of April on calendar-day Net 30 terms comes due on May 1, 2027, which is not a working day under the Indian Central Government calendar. A term counted in calendar days can land anywhere in the week, and roughly two days in seven it lands somewhere nothing settles, which is the ordinary reason a payment shows as late by a day or two without anyone being late.
| Invoice date | Net 30, calendar days | Net 60, calendar days |
|---|---|---|
| Dated April 1 | May 1, 2027 (rolls to May 3, 2027) | May 31, 2027 |
| Dated April 15 | May 15, 2027 (rolls to May 18, 2027) | June 14, 2027 |
| Dated April 30 | May 30, 2027 (rolls to May 31, 2027) | June 29, 2027 |
Net 30 and Net 60 are commercial conventions rather than statutory periods, and both are counted here in calendar days, which is how they are almost always written. Where a contract counts in working days instead, use the between-dates calculator with the India calendar selected, because the two produce different dates whenever a closure falls inside the term.
