federal holidays in April 2027
No US federal holidays fall on a weekday in April 2027, so the month loses no working day to a holiday on this calendar.
United States April deadlines
April 15 carries three federal deadlines at once: the individual return (Form 1040), the calendar-year C corporation return (Form 1120), and the first estimated tax instalment of the year. All three follow the same rule, the 15th day of the fourth month after the tax year ends. April 1 is a separate date that is easy to miss, being the last day to take a first required minimum distribution for someone who reached the applicable age during the previous year. Like March, April carries no federal holiday.

Those dates in 2027
Every date named above falls on a working day in 2027 under the US federal calendar. That is worth checking rather than assuming: the same calendar date moves through the week from year to year, so a date that settles cleanly this year may not next year.

| April 1 | Thursday | Working day | |

United States reporting cycles and business-day rules
Periods under the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure are not counted in business days. Rule 6(a)(1) excludes the day of the event that triggers the period and counts every day after it, including intermediate Saturdays, Sundays and legal holidays; when the last day is a Saturday, Sunday or legal holiday, the period runs to the end of the next day that is none of those. Before the 2009 amendment the rule left intermediate Saturdays, Sundays and legal holidays out of periods shorter than 11 days, and that exclusion no longer applies. When a holiday falls on a Saturday, this calculator leaves out the Friday before it, which 5 U.S.C. 6103(b) makes the holiday for federal employees on a Monday-to-Friday workweek; the Federal Reserve Banks stay open that Friday. Estimated tax payments of a corporation are due on the 15th day of the 4th, 6th, 9th and 12th months of its tax year, which for a calendar-year corporation is April 15, June 15, September 15 and December 15. IRS Publication 509 states the general rule that an act due on a Saturday, Sunday or legal holiday is timely on the next day that is none of those, and by legal holiday it means any legal holiday in the District of Columbia.

How April 2027 compares year over year
April 2026 also had 22 business days, so the working capacity is unchanged year over year. On the surrounding months, March 2027 has 23 business days and May 2027 has 20. Looking forward, April 2028 has 20 business days under the same US federal holiday calendar.
Using this calculator in United States
The 22 business days in April 2027 are the count to use for invoice due dates, contract deadlines and SLA windows stated in business days. Federal contracts under the FAR count in calendar days, because FAR 2.101 defines a day as a calendar day unless otherwise specified. For an invoice payment, FAR 32.904(b)(1) sets the due date at the later of the 30th day after the designated billing office receives a proper invoice and the 30th day after government acceptance of the supplies or services. Paragraphs (c) through (f) of the same section set other dates for architect-engineer, construction, cost-reimbursement service and food contracts.

How April 2027 is shaped
The headline count answers how many business days April 2027 contains. It does not answer where they sit, and for anything measured in consecutive days rather than cumulative days that second question is the binding one. What follows is derived entirely from the US federal holiday calendar and a working week that treats Saturday and Sunday as the weekend, with no assumption about how any particular obligation behaves.
A 30-day month opening the second quarter
April runs 30 days and opens Q2. It shares its weekday alignment with July in every year, so the two months have the same internal shape before holidays are applied, and any difference between their working-day counts comes entirely from closures rather than from the calendar. April is also one of the four months that begin a quarter, which puts its first working day at the head of a reporting period.
In April 2027 that comes to 22 business days across 30 calendar days, against 23 in March 2027 and 20 in May 2027.
A late-week start
The month opens on the fourth working day of the week, which leaves only a short tail before the first weekend. The practical consequence is that the month's first genuinely full working week does not begin on the 1st at all. Anything scoped as "we have the first week to do this" has materially less time than the phrase suggests, and the shortfall is visible in the opening run below.
The opening stretch runs from Thursday, April 1 to April 2, two business days before the first break. April 2027 carries 22 business days in total, so that opening block is 9% of the month's working capacity.
Five working stretches
April splits into five working stretches. That is the ordinary shape of a month whose only interruptions are its weekends, and it means the month's internal boundaries are all predictable a year in advance: nothing here depends on a holiday date moving.
The working days of April 2027 arrive in stretches of 2, 5, 5, 5, and 5 days. The longest unbroken stretch runs five days, from April 5 to April 9. A task needing more consecutive business days than that cannot be completed inside a single stretch, whatever the month's total looks like.
The month is back-loaded. It opens with two consecutive days and closes with five, so the room is at the end rather than the start. That is the safer of the two imbalances, because a slip has somewhere to go, but it also makes the opening week a poor sample of the month.
Two weekdays occur five times
Thirty days is four seven-day cycles plus two, so a 30-day month has exactly two weekdays occurring five times and five occurring four times. Here they are Thursday and Friday. The pair is always consecutive, because the surplus days are the first two of the month repeated at its end.
All of them are working days here, so the surplus lands entirely on the working week: Thursday and Friday each occur 5 times. Had the surplus fallen on the weekend instead, the same month would carry 20 business days rather than 22.
A month with no closures, and a long one
April 2027 contains no US federal holiday on any date, working or otherwise. A month with no closure loses working days only to weekends, so its count is set entirely by the weekday it opens on and its length, and here both work in the month's favour: 22 business days across 30 calendar days.
Months at this end of the range are the ones worth reserving for work that needs consecutive days rather than cumulative days. The constraint that usually breaks a long run, a closure landing mid-week, is absent, so the month's structure is entirely weekend-driven and repeats on a seven-day cycle.
A long stretch with no closure at all
April 2027 sits inside an unusually long run without a US federal closure. Neither the month itself nor either edge of it carries one within a month, which means the working-day count here is set by the weekend pattern alone and will repeat exactly in any year with the same alignment.
Looking outside the month, the last was Presidents' Day on February 15, 2027, 45 calendar days before April began and the next is Memorial Day on May 31, 2027, 31 calendar days after it ends.
Across the whole of 2027 the US federal calendar puts 12 closures on working days, of which none falls in April. That ratio, rather than the raw count, is what tells you whether a month is carrying more than its share of the year's downtime.
The working month and the calendar month end together
The month's last calendar day is also the last working day of a week. Month-end and week-end fall on the same date in April 2027, which is the one alignment where a weekly close and a monthly close cannot be separated. Everything queued for both runs on the same day, and there is no working day left in April to absorb a slip.
The last working day of April 2027 is Friday, April 30. Counting back from there, the third-to-last is Wednesday, April 28, two calendar days before the month closes.
The quarter opens here
April is the first month of Q2. An opening month sets the baseline the rest of the quarter is measured against, and it is the one month where a slip has two further months to be absorbed in. Quarterly targets divided evenly by three ignore the fact that the three months rarely carry equal working-day counts.
Across the whole quarter there are 63 business days, of which 22 fall in April. The other two months carry May 2027 with 20 and June 2027 with 21. It is the largest of the three, so work deferred out of April lands in a month with less room than this one had.
The week's first working day is the scarcest
The first working day of the week is the one April gives least often. Anything anchored to the start of the working week (a weekly kickoff, a Monday-morning cutoff, a start-of-week batch) fires fewer times this month than the calendar count suggests, because a closure has taken one of them out.
Counted as worked rather than as occurring, April 2027 gives Monday 4, Tuesday 4, Wednesday 4, Thursday 5, and Friday 5. A weekly commitment pinned to a particular weekday fires that many times in the month, which is the number a rota needs and not the one the calendar shows.
Toward the long end of the year
April sits among the longer working months of 2027 under the US federal calendar. Where a month falls in that ranking is decided by two independent things, its calendar length and how many closures land on its working days, so a month can move several places between adjacent years without its length changing at all.
2027 carries 249 business days in total under the US federal calendar. The longest month of the year is March 2027 with 23 and the shortest is February 2027 with 19, a spread of 4. April ranks 2nd of the twelve with 22.
Inside the year's longest clear run
April 2027 sits inside the longest stretch of 2027 with no US federal closure in it. Where a month falls relative to its country's closure clusters changes what the same working-day count is worth: an uninterrupted month inside a long clear run behaves differently from one of equal length wedged between two closures.
Across 2027 the US federal closures fall 3 in Q1, 2 in Q2, 2 in Q3, and 5 in Q4. Every holiday in the US federal data for 2027 falls on a working day, so the country's holiday count and its working-day loss are the same number this year, which is not usually the case.
The longest uninterrupted run in the 2027 calendar sits between February 15, 2027 and May 31, 2027, 105 calendar days with no US federal closure in between. Stretches like that are where multi-week work belongs, and they move from year to year whenever a movable holiday does.
Where the month sits in the year's closure pattern
Closures are not spread evenly across a calendar year. They cluster around fixed anniversaries and around whichever lunar or movable feasts a jurisdiction observes, so two adjacent months can carry very different loads, and the US federal calendar is no exception.
2027 opens its US federal closures with New Year's Day on January 1, 2027 and ends them with New Year's Day 2028 (observed) on December 31, 2027. The densest month of the year is January 2027 with two closures on working days.
The same count as last year
April 2027 and April 2026 carry the same number of business days, 22 in each. An unchanged total does not mean an unchanged month: the working days sit on different dates and break into different stretches, so a schedule copied forward date by date will not line up even though the capacity has not moved.
April opens 2026 on a Wednesday, 2027 on a Thursday, and 2028 on a Saturday. That movement, one weekday in a common year and two after a leap day, is what makes the three counts differ. The number of closures on working days is the same in both years, so the whole of any difference comes from weekday alignment. Looking ahead, April 2028 carries 20 business days.
Where the month's anchor dates fall
Two of the common monthly anchor dates in April 2027 land outside the working week or on a closure. The table below resolves each one against the US federal calendar, together with the first working day on or after it.
| Date | Weekday | Status under the US federal calendar | First working day on or after |
|---|---|---|---|
| April 1 | Thursday | Working day | April 1 |
| April 5 | Monday | Working day | April 5 |
| April 10 | Saturday | Weekend | April 12, 2027 |
| April 15 | Thursday | Working day | April 15 |
| April 20 | Tuesday | Working day | April 20 |
| April 25 | Sunday | Weekend | April 26, 2027 |
| April 30 | Friday | Working day | April 30 |
The final column is arithmetic, not a legal conclusion. Whether an obligation actually moves when its date is not a working day depends on the instrument that sets it, and this site does not assume a shift rule for any jurisdiction. Where a rule is known it is stated in the holiday data methodology and on the country page it applies to.
Net terms dated in April 2027
An invoice dated the 1st of April on calendar-day Net 30 terms comes due on May 1, 2027, which is not a working day under the US federal calendar. A term counted in calendar days can land anywhere in the week, and roughly two days in seven it lands somewhere nothing settles, which is the ordinary reason a payment shows as late by a day or two without anyone being late.
| Invoice date | Net 30, calendar days | Net 60, calendar days |
|---|---|---|
| Dated April 1 | May 1, 2027 (rolls to May 3, 2027) | May 31, 2027 (rolls to June 1, 2027) |
| Dated April 15 | May 15, 2027 (rolls to May 17, 2027) | June 14, 2027 |
| Dated April 30 | May 30, 2027 (rolls to June 1, 2027) | June 29, 2027 |
Net 30 and Net 60 are commercial conventions rather than statutory periods, and both are counted here in calendar days, which is how they are almost always written. Where a contract counts in working days instead, use the between-dates calculator with the United States calendar selected, because the two produce different dates whenever a closure falls inside the term.
