federal holidays in March 2027
No US federal holidays fall on a weekday in March 2027, so the month loses no working day to a holiday on this calendar.
United States March deadlines
March 15 is the filing deadline for partnerships (Form 1065) and S corporations (Form 1120-S). The IRS sets it at the 15th day of the third month after the tax year ends, so a calendar-year filer lands on March 15, and Form 7004 buys an automatic six-month extension to September 15. Daylight saving time begins at 2 a.m. on the second Sunday of March under 15 U.S.C. 260a. March carries no federal holiday at all, one of only three months that does not.

Those dates in 2027
Every date named above falls on a working day in 2027 under the US federal calendar. That is worth checking rather than assuming: the same calendar date moves through the week from year to year, so a date that settles cleanly this year may not next year.

United States reporting cycles and business-day rules
Periods under the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure are not counted in business days. Rule 6(a)(1) excludes the day of the event that triggers the period and counts every day after it, including intermediate Saturdays, Sundays and legal holidays; when the last day is a Saturday, Sunday or legal holiday, the period runs to the end of the next day that is none of those. Before the 2009 amendment the rule left intermediate Saturdays, Sundays and legal holidays out of periods shorter than 11 days, and that exclusion no longer applies. When a holiday falls on a Saturday, this calculator leaves out the Friday before it, which 5 U.S.C. 6103(b) makes the holiday for federal employees on a Monday-to-Friday workweek; the Federal Reserve Banks stay open that Friday. Estimated tax payments of a corporation are due on the 15th day of the 4th, 6th, 9th and 12th months of its tax year, which for a calendar-year corporation is April 15, June 15, September 15 and December 15. IRS Publication 509 states the general rule that an act due on a Saturday, Sunday or legal holiday is timely on the next day that is none of those, and by legal holiday it means any legal holiday in the District of Columbia.

How March 2027 compares year over year
March 2026 had 22 business days, so March 2027 has 1 more working day year over year. On the surrounding months, February 2027 has 19 business days and April 2027 has 22. Looking forward, March 2028 has 23 business days under the same US federal holiday calendar.
Using this calculator in United States
The 23 business days in March 2027 are the count to use for invoice due dates, contract deadlines and SLA windows stated in business days. Federal contracts under the FAR count in calendar days, because FAR 2.101 defines a day as a calendar day unless otherwise specified. For an invoice payment, FAR 32.904(b)(1) sets the due date at the later of the 30th day after the designated billing office receives a proper invoice and the 30th day after government acceptance of the supplies or services. Paragraphs (c) through (f) of the same section set other dates for architect-engineer, construction, cost-reimbursement service and food contracts.

How March 2027 is shaped
The headline count answers how many business days March 2027 contains. It does not answer where they sit, and for anything measured in consecutive days rather than cumulative days that second question is the binding one. What follows is derived entirely from the US federal holiday calendar and a working week that treats Saturday and Sunday as the weekend, with no assumption about how any particular obligation behaves.
The month that closes the first quarter
March closes Q1 and is one of the seven 31-day months. Because it ends a quarter, its final working day is also the quarter's final working day, so a March count carries two boundaries rather than one. It is also the month in which the Gregorian year's day-of-week pattern first repeats: March and November always share the same weekday alignment in any given year.
In March 2027 that comes to 23 business days across 31 calendar days, against 19 in February 2027 and 22 in April 2027.
A clean start to the working week
March 2027 opens on the first working day of the week. That is the alignment where the month's own numbering and the working week agree: week one of the month is a whole working week that belongs entirely to March, with nothing borrowed from the month before. Of the 5 possible starts this is the only one where "the first week" and "the first 5 business days" describe the same span.
The opening stretch runs from Monday, March 1 to March 5, five business days before the first break. March 2027 carries 23 business days in total, so that opening block is 22% of the month's working capacity.
Five working stretches
March splits into five working stretches. That is the ordinary shape of a month whose only interruptions are its weekends, and it means the month's internal boundaries are all predictable a year in advance: nothing here depends on a holiday date moving.
The working days of March 2027 arrive in stretches of 5, 5, 5, 5, and 3 days. The longest unbroken stretch runs five days, from March 1 to March 5. A task needing more consecutive business days than that cannot be completed inside a single stretch, whatever the month's total looks like.
The month is front-loaded. It opens with five consecutive days and closes with three, so capacity thins toward the end. Work deferred out of the first stretch arrives in a shorter one, which is how a schedule that looked comfortable in week one stops fitting.
Three weekdays occur five times
A 31-day month contains four full seven-day cycles and three days over, so exactly three weekdays occur five times and the other four occur four times. In March 2027 the three are Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Which three it is follows entirely from the weekday the month opens on, which is why the working-day count of a 31-day month moves year to year even when its holidays do not.
All of them are working days here, so the surplus lands entirely on the working week: Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday each occur 5 times. A weekend of two days can take at most two of them, and had it done so the same month would carry 21 business days rather than 23.
A month with no closures, and a long one
March 2027 contains no US federal holiday on any date, working or otherwise. A month with no closure loses working days only to weekends, so its count is set entirely by the weekday it opens on and its length, and here both work in the month's favour: 23 business days across 31 calendar days.
Months at this end of the range are the ones worth reserving for work that needs consecutive days rather than cumulative days. The constraint that usually breaks a long run, a closure landing mid-week, is absent, so the month's structure is entirely weekend-driven and repeats on a seven-day cycle.
The closures on either side of the month
Nothing closes inside March 2027 under the US federal calendar, so the useful question is what sits on either side of it. Adjacent closures matter to a monthly plan because deadlines that fall near a month boundary are usually satisfied on the other side of it.
Looking outside the month, the last was Presidents' Day on February 15, 2027, 14 calendar days before March began and the next is Memorial Day on May 31, 2027, 61 calendar days after it ends.
Across the whole of 2027 the US federal calendar puts 12 closures on working days, of which none falls in March. That ratio, rather than the raw count, is what tells you whether a month is carrying more than its share of the year's downtime.
A midweek close
The month ends in the middle of a working week. Two working days of the final calendar week fall in March and the remainder in the month after, which makes the closing week a partial period on both sides. A midweek close is the pattern most likely to push month-end tasks into the following month by default, simply because the week continues past the boundary.
The last working day of March 2027 is Wednesday, March 31. Counting back from there, the third-to-last is Monday, March 29, two calendar days before the month closes.
The quarter closes here
March closes Q1, so the quarter's last working day and this month's last working day are the same date. Everything the quarter has deferred arrives inside these 23 business days, and there is no further month in the period to move it into.
Across the whole quarter there are 61 business days, of which 23 fall in March. The other two months carry January 2027 with 19 and February 2027 with 19. It is the largest of the three, so work deferred out of March lands in a month with less room than this one had.
The week's fourth working day is the scarcest
The fourth working day of the week is the one March gives least often. It is the position that carries most pre-weekend handover work, so an occurrence lost here tends to push into the following week rather than into the next day.
Counted as worked rather than as occurring, March 2027 gives Monday 5, Tuesday 5, Wednesday 5, Thursday 4, and Friday 4. A weekly commitment pinned to a particular weekday fires that many times in the month, which is the number a rota needs and not the one the calendar shows.
One of the year's longest working months
No month of 2027 carries more business days than March under the US federal calendar. A year's working days are not distributed evenly across its twelve months, and the gap between the longest and the shortest is wide enough that a target divided by twelve is wrong in both directions.
2027 carries 249 business days in total under the US federal calendar. The longest month of the year is March 2027 with 23 and the shortest is February 2027 with 19, a spread of 4. March ranks 1st of the twelve with 23.
Inside the year's longest clear run
March 2027 sits inside the longest stretch of 2027 with no US federal closure in it. Where a month falls relative to its country's closure clusters changes what the same working-day count is worth: an uninterrupted month inside a long clear run behaves differently from one of equal length wedged between two closures.
Across 2027 the US federal closures fall 3 in Q1, 2 in Q2, 2 in Q3, and 5 in Q4. Every holiday in the US federal data for 2027 falls on a working day, so the country's holiday count and its working-day loss are the same number this year, which is not usually the case.
The longest uninterrupted run in the 2027 calendar sits between February 15, 2027 and May 31, 2027, 105 calendar days with no US federal closure in between. Stretches like that are where multi-week work belongs, and they move from year to year whenever a movable holiday does.
Where the month sits in the year's closure pattern
Closures are not spread evenly across a calendar year. They cluster around fixed anniversaries and around whichever lunar or movable feasts a jurisdiction observes, so two adjacent months can carry very different loads, and the US federal calendar is no exception.
2027 opens its US federal closures with New Year's Day on January 1, 2027 and ends them with New Year's Day 2028 (observed) on December 31, 2027. The densest month of the year is January 2027 with two closures on working days.
One working day more than last year
There is one more business day in March 2027 than in March 2026: 23 against 22. A single-day swing is the ordinary case, produced by the calendar shifting forward one weekday between consecutive common years, and it is large enough to matter to a monthly target and small enough to be missed.
March opens 2026 on a Sunday, 2027 on a Monday, and 2028 on a Wednesday. That movement, one weekday in a common year and two after a leap day, is what makes the three counts differ. The number of closures on working days is the same in both years, so the whole of any difference comes from weekday alignment. Looking ahead, March 2028 carries 23 business days.
Where the month's anchor dates fall
One of the common monthly anchor dates in March 2027 lands outside the working week or on a closure. The table below resolves each one against the US federal calendar, together with the first working day on or after it.
| Date | Weekday | Status under the US federal calendar | First working day on or after |
|---|---|---|---|
| March 1 | Monday | Working day | March 1 |
| March 5 | Friday | Working day | March 5 |
| March 10 | Wednesday | Working day | March 10 |
| March 15 | Monday | Working day | March 15 |
| March 20 | Saturday | Weekend | March 22, 2027 |
| March 25 | Thursday | Working day | March 25 |
| March 31 | Wednesday | Working day | March 31 |
The final column is arithmetic, not a legal conclusion. Whether an obligation actually moves when its date is not a working day depends on the instrument that sets it, and this site does not assume a shift rule for any jurisdiction. Where a rule is known it is stated in the holiday data methodology and on the country page it applies to.
Net terms dated in March 2027
An invoice dated the 1st of March on calendar-day Net 30 terms comes due on March 31, 2027, a working day under the US federal calendar. Terms counted in calendar days move independently of the working week, so the same term written on two consecutive months can settle cleanly in one and roll across a closure in the other.
| Invoice date | Net 30, calendar days | Net 60, calendar days |
|---|---|---|
| Dated March 1 | March 31, 2027 | April 30, 2027 |
| Dated March 15 | April 14, 2027 | May 14, 2027 |
| Dated March 31 | April 30, 2027 | May 30, 2027 (rolls to June 1, 2027) |
Net 30 and Net 60 are commercial conventions rather than statutory periods, and both are counted here in calendar days, which is how they are almost always written. Where a contract counts in working days instead, use the between-dates calculator with the United States calendar selected, because the two produce different dates whenever a closure falls inside the term.
