United States February deadlines
February is short on calendar days and long on information returns. Paper Forms 1097, 1098, 1099, 3921, 3922 and W-2G are due to the IRS by February 28, and filing electronically moves the date to March 31. The IRS treats February 28 as fixed: it does not become February 29 in a leap year. Presidents' Day on the third Monday closes the Federal Reserve, so a payment file dated that day settles the next business day.

Those dates in 2027
None of the dates named above falls on a working day in 2027 under the US federal calendar. A fixed calendar date advances by one weekday in a common year and two after a leap day, so which side of the working week it lands on changes on a four-year cycle rather than staying put.

United States reporting cycles and business-day rules
Periods under the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure are not counted in business days. Rule 6(a)(1) excludes the day of the event that triggers the period and counts every day after it, including intermediate Saturdays, Sundays and legal holidays; when the last day is a Saturday, Sunday or legal holiday, the period runs to the end of the next day that is none of those. Before the 2009 amendment the rule left intermediate Saturdays, Sundays and legal holidays out of periods shorter than 11 days, and that exclusion no longer applies. When a holiday falls on a Saturday, this calculator leaves out the Friday before it, which 5 U.S.C. 6103(b) makes the holiday for federal employees on a Monday-to-Friday workweek; the Federal Reserve Banks stay open that Friday. Estimated tax payments of a corporation are due on the 15th day of the 4th, 6th, 9th and 12th months of its tax year, which for a calendar-year corporation is April 15, June 15, September 15 and December 15. IRS Publication 509 states the general rule that an act due on a Saturday, Sunday or legal holiday is timely on the next day that is none of those, and by legal holiday it means any legal holiday in the District of Columbia.

How February 2027 compares year over year
February 2026 also had 19 business days, so the working capacity is unchanged year over year. On the surrounding months, January 2027 has 19 business days and March 2027 has 23. Looking forward, February 2028 has 20 business days under the same US federal holiday calendar.
Using this calculator in United States
The 19 business days in February 2027 are the count to use for invoice due dates, contract deadlines and SLA windows stated in business days. Federal contracts under the FAR count in calendar days, because FAR 2.101 defines a day as a calendar day unless otherwise specified. For an invoice payment, FAR 32.904(b)(1) sets the due date at the later of the 30th day after the designated billing office receives a proper invoice and the 30th day after government acceptance of the supplies or services. Paragraphs (c) through (f) of the same section set other dates for architect-engineer, construction, cost-reimbursement service and food contracts.

How February 2027 is shaped
The headline count answers how many business days February 2027 contains. It does not answer where they sit, and for anything measured in consecutive days rather than cumulative days that second question is the binding one. What follows is derived entirely from the US federal holiday calendar and a working week that treats Saturday and Sunday as the weekend, with no assumption about how any particular obligation behaves.
The only month whose length changes
February is the shortest month and the only one whose length is not fixed, running 28 days in a common year and 29 in a leap year. A 28-day February is exactly four seven-day cycles, which makes it the only month capable of containing precisely four of every weekday. February 2027 runs 28 days, so it has that perfectly regular shape.
In February 2027 that comes to 19 business days across 28 calendar days, against 19 in January 2027 and 23 in March 2027.
A clean start to the working week
February 2027 opens on the first working day of the week. That is the alignment where the month's own numbering and the working week agree: week one of the month is a whole working week that belongs entirely to February, with nothing borrowed from the month before. Of the 5 possible starts this is the only one where "the first week" and "the first 5 business days" describe the same span.
The opening stretch runs from Monday, February 1 to February 5, five business days before the first break. February 2027 carries 19 business days in total, so that opening block is 26% of the month's working capacity.
How the working days break up
The working days of February 2027 fall into four separate stretches. The count of stretches matters more than it looks: a month's total is the sum of its runs, but a deliverable that needs consecutive days is limited by the longest single run, and the two numbers move independently.
The working days of February 2027 arrive in stretches of 5, 5, 4, and 5 days. The longest unbroken stretch runs five days, from February 1 to February 5. A task needing more consecutive business days than that cannot be completed inside a single stretch, whatever the month's total looks like.
The month is balanced end to end. Its opening and closing stretches are the same length, five days each, so work pushed from the start of February to its end finds the same amount of room it left behind. That symmetry is the exception rather than the rule.
The only perfectly regular month
A 28-day February is exactly four seven-day cycles, so every weekday occurs four times and no weekday is over-represented. It is the only month of the year that can be perfectly regular, and it means February's working-day count in a common year depends on nothing but its holidays: the weekday alignment cannot change the answer.
Only Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday among them are working days, so part of the surplus is absorbed by the Saturday and Sunday weekend and never reaches the working total. That split is why two months of the same length can carry different working-day counts without any holiday being involved.
One closure, and where it lands
February 2027 carries a single US federal closure on a working day: Presidents' Day on Monday, February 15. A holiday's cost to a month is not only the day it removes; it is also where the removal falls, because the same closure can extend an existing break or cut a working stretch in half.
It sits directly beside a weekend rather than inside a working week, so it extends an existing break instead of creating a new one. That is the cheapest position a holiday can occupy: the month loses a day but keeps its shape.
ten working days pass before the closure and only 9 follow it. With the break past the midpoint, most of the month's capacity has already been spent when it arrives, so anything the closure displaces competes for a shrinking remainder.
The closures around this month
February 2027 carries one US federal closure of its own, and the months on either side add their own. Where a deadline sits close to a month boundary, the closure that moves it is as likely to be outside the month as inside it.
Looking outside the month, the last was Martin Luther King Jr. Day on January 18, 2027, 14 calendar days before February began and the next is Memorial Day on May 31, 2027, 92 calendar days after it ends.
Across the whole of 2027 the US federal calendar puts 12 closures on working days, of which one falls in February. That ratio, rather than the raw count, is what tells you whether a month is carrying more than its share of the year's downtime.
The month ends over a weekend
February 2027 ends on a Sunday, which this calendar treats as weekend. Month-end processing cannot happen on the last calendar day, so it happens earlier and the last few dates of the month carry no settlement at all. The distance between the final working day and the final calendar day is where month-end reconciliations go missing.
The last working day of February 2027 is Friday, February 26. Counting back from there, the third-to-last is Wednesday, February 24, four calendar days before the month closes.
The working month ends on the last working day of a week, so the final stretch is a complete one and nothing is left hanging mid-week. Two calendar days of February follow it with nothing settling on them.
The middle month of the quarter
February is the middle month of Q1. Middle months carry the least visibility in a quarterly cycle: the opening month sets expectations and the closing month is where they are settled, so a shortfall here is the one most likely to be noticed late.
Across the whole quarter there are 61 business days, of which 19 fall in February. The other two months carry January 2027 with 19 and March 2027 with 23. It is the smallest of the three, so the quarter's capacity sits mostly in the other two months and a plan that spreads work evenly across the quarter will over-commit February.
The week's first working day is the scarcest
The first working day of the week is the one February gives least often. Anything anchored to the start of the working week (a weekly kickoff, a Monday-morning cutoff, a start-of-week batch) fires fewer times this month than the calendar count suggests, because a closure has taken one of them out.
Counted as worked rather than as occurring, February 2027 gives Monday 3, Tuesday 4, Wednesday 4, Thursday 4, and Friday 4. A weekly commitment pinned to a particular weekday fires that many times in the month, which is the number a rota needs and not the one the calendar shows.
One of the year's shortest working months
No month of 2027 carries fewer business days than February under the US federal calendar. Two forces set a month's position in that ranking, its length and its closures, and they can either compound or cancel: a long month with several closures and a short month with none can land on the same count.
2027 carries 249 business days in total under the US federal calendar. The longest month of the year is March 2027 with 23 and the shortest is February 2027 with 19, a spread of 4. February ranks 12th of the twelve with 19.
United States closures across the year
A month's working-day count only means something against the country's whole calendar. Two countries that share a weekend and happen to have the same closure-free month can still run very different years, and United States is placed as follows.
Across 2027 the US federal closures fall 3 in Q1, 2 in Q2, 2 in Q3, and 5 in Q4. Every holiday in the US federal data for 2027 falls on a working day, so the country's holiday count and its working-day loss are the same number this year, which is not usually the case.
The longest uninterrupted run in the 2027 calendar sits between February 15, 2027 and May 31, 2027, 105 calendar days with no US federal closure in between. Stretches like that are where multi-week work belongs, and they move from year to year whenever a movable holiday does.
Where the month sits in the year's closure pattern
Closures are not spread evenly across a calendar year. They cluster around fixed anniversaries and around whichever lunar or movable feasts a jurisdiction observes, so two adjacent months can carry very different loads, and the US federal calendar is no exception.
2027 opens its US federal closures with New Year's Day on January 1, 2027 and ends them with New Year's Day 2028 (observed) on December 31, 2027. The densest month of the year is January 2027 with two closures on working days.
The same count as last year
February 2027 and February 2026 carry the same number of business days, 19 in each. An unchanged total does not mean an unchanged month: the working days sit on different dates and break into different stretches, so a schedule copied forward date by date will not line up even though the capacity has not moved.
February opens 2026 on a Sunday, 2027 on a Monday, and 2028 on a Tuesday. That movement, one weekday in a common year and two after a leap day, is what makes the three counts differ. The number of closures on working days is the same in both years, so the whole of any difference comes from weekday alignment. Looking ahead, February 2028 carries 20 business days.
Anchor dates that do not fall on working days
Three of the common monthly anchor dates in February 2027 land on a day this calendar does not work. A month with this many blocked anchors pushes several cycles onto the same few dates, because each of them resolves forward to the next available working day and those tend to be shared.
| Date | Weekday | Status under the US federal calendar | First working day on or after |
|---|---|---|---|
| February 1 | Monday | Working day | February 1 |
| February 5 | Friday | Working day | February 5 |
| February 10 | Wednesday | Working day | February 10 |
| February 15 | Monday | Closed: Presidents' Day | February 16, 2027 |
| February 20 | Saturday | Weekend | February 22, 2027 |
| February 25 | Thursday | Working day | February 25 |
| February 28 | Sunday | Weekend | March 1, 2027 |
The final column is arithmetic, not a legal conclusion. Whether an obligation actually moves when its date is not a working day depends on the instrument that sets it, and this site does not assume a shift rule for any jurisdiction. Where a rule is known it is stated in the holiday data methodology and on the country page it applies to.
Net terms dated in February 2027
An invoice dated the 1st of February on calendar-day Net 30 terms comes due on March 3, 2027, a working day under the US federal calendar. Terms counted in calendar days move independently of the working week, so the same term written on two consecutive months can settle cleanly in one and roll across a closure in the other.
| Invoice date | Net 30, calendar days | Net 60, calendar days |
|---|---|---|
| Dated February 1 | March 3, 2027 | April 2, 2027 |
| Dated February 15 | March 17, 2027 | April 16, 2027 |
| Dated February 28 | March 30, 2027 | April 29, 2027 |
Net 30 and Net 60 are commercial conventions rather than statutory periods, and both are counted here in calendar days, which is how they are almost always written. Where a contract counts in working days instead, use the between-dates calculator with the United States calendar selected, because the two produce different dates whenever a closure falls inside the term.
