public holidays in February 2027
No Australian national holidays fall on a weekday in February 2027, so the month loses no working day to a holiday on this calendar.
Australia February deadlines
February 28 is the date for the December quarter: the quarterly GST return and payment, the PAYG instalment of a deferred BAS payer, and the December withholding of a medium or small withholder that is a deferred BAS payer. Monthly GST for January is due by February 21, as is a medium withholder's January withholding, the 28th for a deferred BAS payer. Section 36(2) of the Acts Interpretation Act 1901 lets a thing an Act requires on a Saturday, Sunday or holiday be done on the next day that is none of those, a holiday being a public holiday in the place where it is done. February has no national public holiday. February 21, 2027 and February 28 are both Sundays, so these dates move to Monday 22 February and Monday 1 March, or later where that Monday is a public holiday in the place.

Those dates in 2027
None of the dates named above falls on a working day in 2027 under the Australian national calendar. A fixed calendar date advances by one weekday in a common year and two after a leap day, so which side of the working week it lands on changes on a four-year cycle rather than staying put.
| Date | Weekday | Status under the Australian national calendar | First working day on or after |

Australia reporting cycles and business-day rules
Section 115 of the Fair Work Act 2009 lists eight national public holidays and leaves further days, and substitutes for days that fall at a weekend, to State and Territory law, so there is no national weekend rule. For tax dates set by an Act, section 36(2) of the Acts Interpretation Act 1901 lets the thing be done on the next day that is not a Saturday, a Sunday or a public holiday in the place. Under the GST Act a quarterly return and payment are due on the 28th of the month after the quarter, except the December quarter's on 28 February, and a monthly one on the 21st of the next month. Schedule 1 to the Taxation Administration Act 1953 has a medium withholder pay withholding by the 21st of the next month, or the 28th as a deferred BAS payer.

How February 2027 compares year over year
February 2026 also had 20 business days, so the working capacity is unchanged year over year. On the surrounding months, January 2027 has 19 business days and March 2027 has 21. Looking forward, February 2028 has 21 business days under the same Australian national holiday calendar.
Using this calculator in Australia
The 20 business days in February 2027 are the count to use against Australian periods that run in business days, once the holidays of the place concerned are added. Section 9 of the Corporations Act 2001 defines a business day as a day that is not a Saturday, a Sunday or a public holiday or bank holiday in the place concerned, so a count for one city adds its state's holidays to the national ones counted here. The Australian Consumer Law ends the termination period of an unsolicited consumer agreement on the tenth business day after the agreement was made.

How February 2027 is shaped
The headline count answers how many business days February 2027 contains. It does not answer where they sit, and for anything measured in consecutive days rather than cumulative days that second question is the binding one. What follows is derived entirely from the Australian national holiday calendar and a working week that treats Saturday and Sunday as the weekend, with no assumption about how any particular obligation behaves.
The only month whose length changes
February is the shortest month and the only one whose length is not fixed, running 28 days in a common year and 29 in a leap year. A 28-day February is exactly four seven-day cycles, which makes it the only month capable of containing precisely four of every weekday. February 2027 runs 28 days, so it has that perfectly regular shape.
In February 2027 that comes to 20 business days across 28 calendar days, against 19 in January 2027 and 21 in March 2027.
A clean start to the working week
February 2027 opens on the first working day of the week. That is the alignment where the month's own numbering and the working week agree: week one of the month is a whole working week that belongs entirely to February, with nothing borrowed from the month before. Of the 5 possible starts this is the only one where "the first week" and "the first 5 business days" describe the same span.
The opening stretch runs from Monday, February 1 to February 5, five business days before the first break. February 2027 carries 20 business days in total, so that opening block is 25% of the month's working capacity.
How the working days break up
The working days of February 2027 fall into four separate stretches. The count of stretches matters more than it looks: a month's total is the sum of its runs, but a deliverable that needs consecutive days is limited by the longest single run, and the two numbers move independently.
The working days of February 2027 arrive in stretches of 5, 5, 5, and 5 days. The longest unbroken stretch runs five days, from February 1 to February 5. A task needing more consecutive business days than that cannot be completed inside a single stretch, whatever the month's total looks like.
The month is balanced end to end. Its opening and closing stretches are the same length, five days each, so work pushed from the start of February to its end finds the same amount of room it left behind. That symmetry is the exception rather than the rule.
The only perfectly regular month
A 28-day February is exactly four seven-day cycles, so every weekday occurs four times and no weekday is over-represented. It is the only month of the year that can be perfectly regular, and it means February's working-day count in a common year depends on nothing but its holidays: the weekday alignment cannot change the answer.
Only Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday among them are working days, so part of the surplus is absorbed by the Saturday and Sunday weekend and never reaches the working total. That split is why two months of the same length can carry different working-day counts without any holiday being involved.
A month with no closures, and a lean one
No Australian national holiday falls anywhere in February 2027. When a month carries no closure, its working-day count is decided entirely by which weekday it opens on and how long it runs, so the whole of the difference between this month and its neighbours is calendar alignment. Here that alignment produces 20 business days, at the low end of what a 28-day month can yield.
A short count with no holiday in it is worth flagging on a plan, because the usual explanation does not apply: nothing was lost to a closure. The month simply begins and ends in positions that put more of its days on the Saturday and Sunday weekend.
A closure sits just outside the month
February 2027 contains no Australian national closure of its own, but one sits within a week of its edge. A closure just outside a month still reaches into it: work displaced from the closed day lands on the working days beside it, and those are inside February whichever side the holiday falls on.
Looking outside the month, the last was Australia Day on January 26, 2027, 6 calendar days before February began and the next is Good Friday on March 26, 2027, 26 calendar days after it ends.
Across the whole of 2027 the Australian national calendar puts seven closures on working days, of which none falls in February. That ratio, rather than the raw count, is what tells you whether a month is carrying more than its share of the year's downtime.
The month ends over a weekend
February 2027 ends on a Sunday, which this calendar treats as weekend. Month-end processing cannot happen on the last calendar day, so it happens earlier and the last few dates of the month carry no settlement at all. The distance between the final working day and the final calendar day is where month-end reconciliations go missing.
The last working day of February 2027 is Friday, February 26. Counting back from there, the third-to-last is Wednesday, February 24, four calendar days before the month closes.
The working month ends on the last working day of a week, so the final stretch is a complete one and nothing is left hanging mid-week. Two calendar days of February follow it with nothing settling on them.
The middle month of the quarter
February is the middle month of Q1. Middle months carry the least visibility in a quarterly cycle: the opening month sets expectations and the closing month is where they are settled, so a shortfall here is the one most likely to be noticed late.
Across the whole quarter there are 60 business days, of which 20 fall in February. The other two months carry January 2027 with 19 and March 2027 with 21. It sits between the other two, which makes it the month where a quarterly plan is least likely to be thrown off by the calendar alone.
Every working weekday occurs the same number of times
February 2027 works each weekday of its week the same number of times. That is the flat case, and it is the only one where a weekly recurring commitment costs the same whichever weekday it is pinned to. It happens when the month's length and its closures happen to cancel, not because the month is regular: the calendar census above and this one can agree for quite different reasons.
Counted as worked rather than as occurring, February 2027 gives Monday 4, Tuesday 4, Wednesday 4, Thursday 4, and Friday 4. A weekly commitment pinned to a particular weekday fires that many times in the month, which is the number a rota needs and not the one the calendar shows.
Toward the short end of the year
February sits among the shorter working months of 2027 under the Australian national calendar. A month reaches this end of the ranking either by being short or by absorbing closures, and the two produce the same headline number while behaving differently: a closure fragments the month, a shorter calendar does not.
2027 carries 254 business days in total under the Australian national calendar. The longest month of the year is April 2027 with 22 and the shortest is January 2027 with 19, a spread of 3. February ranks 11th of the twelve with 20.
Australia closures across the year
A month's working-day count only means something against the country's whole calendar. Two countries that share a weekend and happen to have the same closure-free month can still run very different years, and Australia is placed as follows.
Across 2027 the Australian national closures fall 4 in Q1, 1 in Q2, 0 in Q3, and 2 in Q4. A further three holidays land on the Saturday and Sunday weekend and cost no working day at all, which is why a country's holiday count and its working-day loss are different numbers.
The longest uninterrupted run in the 2027 calendar sits between June 14, 2027 and December 27, 2027, 196 calendar days with no Australian national closure in between. Stretches like that are where multi-week work belongs, and they move from year to year whenever a movable holiday does.
Where the month sits in the year's closure pattern
Closures are not spread evenly across a calendar year. They cluster around fixed anniversaries and around whichever lunar or movable feasts a jurisdiction observes, so two adjacent months can carry very different loads, and the Australian national calendar is no exception.
2027 opens its Australian national closures with New Year's Day on January 1, 2027 and ends them with Boxing Day (additional) on December 28, 2027. The densest month of the year is January 2027 with two closures on working days.
The same count as last year
February 2027 and February 2026 carry the same number of business days, 20 in each. An unchanged total does not mean an unchanged month: the working days sit on different dates and break into different stretches, so a schedule copied forward date by date will not line up even though the capacity has not moved.
February opens 2026 on a Sunday, 2027 on a Monday, and 2028 on a Tuesday. That movement, one weekday in a common year and two after a leap day, is what makes the three counts differ. The number of closures on working days is the same in both years, so the whole of any difference comes from weekday alignment. Looking ahead, February 2028 carries 21 business days.
Where the month's anchor dates fall
Two of the common monthly anchor dates in February 2027 land outside the working week or on a closure. The table below resolves each one against the Australian national calendar, together with the first working day on or after it.
| Date | Weekday | Status under the Australian national calendar | First working day on or after |
|---|---|---|---|
| February 1 | Monday | Working day | February 1 |
| February 5 | Friday | Working day | February 5 |
| February 10 | Wednesday | Working day | February 10 |
| February 15 | Monday | Working day | February 15 |
| February 20 | Saturday | Weekend | February 22, 2027 |
| February 25 | Thursday | Working day | February 25 |
| February 28 | Sunday | Weekend | March 1, 2027 |
The final column is arithmetic, not a legal conclusion. Whether an obligation actually moves when its date is not a working day depends on the instrument that sets it, and this site does not assume a shift rule for any jurisdiction. Where a rule is known it is stated in the holiday data methodology and on the country page it applies to.
Net terms dated in February 2027
An invoice dated the 1st of February on calendar-day Net 30 terms comes due on March 3, 2027, a working day under the Australian national calendar. Terms counted in calendar days move independently of the working week, so the same term written on two consecutive months can settle cleanly in one and roll across a closure in the other.
| Invoice date | Net 30, calendar days | Net 60, calendar days |
|---|---|---|
| Dated February 1 | March 3, 2027 | April 2, 2027 |
| Dated February 15 | March 17, 2027 | April 16, 2027 |
| Dated February 28 | March 30, 2027 | April 29, 2027 |
Net 30 and Net 60 are commercial conventions rather than statutory periods, and both are counted here in calendar days, which is how they are almost always written. Where a contract counts in working days instead, use the between-dates calculator with the Australia calendar selected, because the two produce different dates whenever a closure falls inside the term.
