India March deadlines
Under section 408 of the Income-tax Act, 2025, in force since 1 April 2026, the last advance tax instalment, the whole of the year's advance tax less what is already paid, is due by March 15, and an assessee declaring profits under serial number 1 or 3 of the table in section 58(2) pays all of it by then; advance tax paid by March 31 counts for the financial year ending that day. GSTR-3B for February is due by March 20, and quarterly-scheme tax for February in PMT-06 by March 25. An employer remits provident fund contributions for February within fifteen days of the close of the month, by March 15, under paragraph 28 of the Employees' Provident Funds Scheme, 2026. In this calculator's data Eid ul-Fitr is Wednesday 10 March 2027 and Good Friday 26 March. The Islamic dates may be moved by each state's Central Government employees' committee.

Those dates in 2027
One of the dates named above does not fall on a working day in 2027 under the Indian Central Government calendar. A fixed calendar date advances through the week year by year, so this resolution holds for 2027 only.

India reporting cycles and business-day rules
This calculator counts Monday to Friday and leaves out the 14 holidays that the Department of Personnel and Training's Office Memorandum on the 2027 holidays (F.No.12/2/2023-JCA, dated 16 July 2026) lists as compulsory for Central Government administrative offices, plus Dr. Ambedkar Jayanti. Paragraph 3.2 of that memorandum allows no substitute holiday when a festival holiday falls on a weekly off or another non-working day, or when more than one festival falls on the same day, and the calculator adds none. Under rule 61 of the CGST Rules, 2017 a monthly GSTR-3B is due on or before the 20th of the following month, and a quarterly one on or before the 22nd or the 24th of the month after the quarter, depending on the state or union territory of the principal place of business. Section 408(1) of the Income-tax Act, 2025 has advance tax paid in four instalments, due on or before 15 June, 15 September, 15 December and 15 March. These pages give those dates as the rule and the section state them and adjust none for a Sunday or a holiday.

How March 2027 compares year over year
March 2026 also had 21 working days, so the working capacity is unchanged year over year. On the surrounding months, February 2027 has 20 working days and April 2027 has 20. Looking forward, March 2028 has 23 working days under the same Indian Central Government holiday calendar.
Using this calculator in India
The 21 working days in March 2027 are the month's Monday-to-Friday days less the dates in this calculator's data: the 14 holidays that are compulsory for Central Government administrative offices and Dr. Ambedkar Jayanti. For a project or contract timeline with a Central Government office, add the three further days that apply to that office under Advanced options. Bank holidays are not this list: the Reserve Bank of India's holiday page marks each holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act separately for each of its regional offices, so for a count that follows a bank, read that office's list.

How March 2027 is shaped
The headline count answers how many working days March 2027 contains. It does not answer where they sit, and for anything measured in consecutive days rather than cumulative days that second question is the binding one. What follows is derived entirely from the Indian Central Government holiday calendar and a working week that treats Saturday and Sunday as the weekend, with no assumption about how any particular obligation behaves.
The month that closes the first quarter
March closes Q1 and is one of the seven 31-day months. Because it ends a quarter, its final working day is also the quarter's final working day, so a March count carries two boundaries rather than one. It is also the month in which the Gregorian year's day-of-week pattern first repeats: March and November always share the same weekday alignment in any given year.
In March 2027 that comes to 21 working days across 31 calendar days, against 20 in February 2027 and 20 in April 2027.
A clean start to the working week
March 2027 opens on the first working day of the week. That is the alignment where the month's own numbering and the working week agree: week one of the month is a whole working week that belongs entirely to March, with nothing borrowed from the month before. Of the 5 possible starts this is the only one where "the first week" and "the first 5 working days" describe the same span.
The opening stretch runs from Monday, March 1 to March 5, five working days before the first break. March 2027 carries 21 working days in total, so that opening block is 24% of the month's working capacity.
Six working stretches
The month's working days fall into six stretches. Six is the shape a month takes when its weekends divide it evenly and at least one closure lands inside a working week rather than beside one, so the fragmentation is not simply a function of the month's length.
The working days of March 2027 arrive in stretches of 5, 2, 2, 5, 4, and 3 days. The longest unbroken stretch runs five days, from March 1 to March 5. A task needing more consecutive working days than that cannot be completed inside a single stretch, whatever the month's total looks like.
The month is front-loaded. It opens with five consecutive days and closes with three, so capacity thins toward the end. Work deferred out of the first stretch arrives in a shorter one, which is how a schedule that looked comfortable in week one stops fitting.
Three weekdays occur five times
A 31-day month contains four full seven-day cycles and three days over, so exactly three weekdays occur five times and the other four occur four times. In March 2027 the three are Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Which three it is follows entirely from the weekday the month opens on, which is why the working-day count of a 31-day month moves year to year even when its holidays do not.
All of them are working days here, so the surplus lands entirely on the working week: Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday each occur 5 times. A weekend of two days can take at most two of them, and had it done so the same month would carry 19 working days rather than 21.
Two closures in the month
Two Indian Central Government holidays fall on working days in March 2027: Eid ul-Fitr on Wednesday, March 10 and Good Friday on Friday, March 26. Two closures remove two days from the total, but their effect on the month's usable structure depends on how far apart they are.
They sit 16 calendar days apart, one in each half of the month, so March is interrupted twice at roughly even spacing rather than once heavily. That spreads the loss but leaves no long uninterrupted stretch in either half.
seven working days pass before the closure and 14 follow it, which puts the break just short of the month's midpoint. A closure near the middle divides the month into two usable halves rather than trimming one end of it.
The closures around this month
March 2027 carries two Indian Central Government closures of its own, and the months on either side add their own. Where a deadline sits close to a month boundary, the closure that moves it is as likely to be outside the month as inside it.
Looking outside the month, the last was Republic Day on January 26, 2027, 34 calendar days before March began and the next is Dr. Ambedkar Jayanti (unconfirmed) on April 14, 2027, 14 calendar days after it ends.
Across the whole of 2027 the Indian Central Government calendar puts nine closures on working days, of which two fall in March. That ratio, rather than the raw count, is what tells you whether a month is carrying more than its share of the year's downtime.
A midweek close
The month ends in the middle of a working week. Two working days of the final calendar week fall in March and the remainder in the month after, which makes the closing week a partial period on both sides. A midweek close is the pattern most likely to push month-end tasks into the following month by default, simply because the week continues past the boundary.
The last working day of March 2027 is Wednesday, March 31. Counting back from there, the third-to-last is Monday, March 29, two calendar days before the month closes.
The quarter closes here
March closes Q1, so the quarter's last working day and this month's last working day are the same date. Everything the quarter has deferred arrives inside these 21 working days, and there is no further month in the period to move it into.
Across the whole quarter there are 61 working days, of which 21 fall in March. The other two months carry January 2027 with 20 and February 2027 with 20. It is the largest of the three, so work deferred out of March lands in a month with less room than this one had.
The week's last working day is the scarcest
The last working day of the week is the one March gives least often. That matters more than the equivalent shortfall mid-week, because end-of-week cutoffs tend to be the ones that cannot move: work deferred past them waits out the whole weekend rather than a single night.
Counted as worked rather than as occurring, March 2027 gives Monday 5, Tuesday 5, Wednesday 4, Thursday 4, and Friday 3. A weekly commitment pinned to a particular weekday fires that many times in the month, which is the number a rota needs and not the one the calendar shows.
Where the month sits in the year
March sits in the middle of 2027 by working-day count under the Indian Central Government calendar. The middle of that ranking is where a month's total is least informative on its own, because a mid-ranked month can be a long month carrying closures or a short one carrying none, and the two need different plans.
2027 carries 252 working days in total under the Indian Central Government calendar. The longest month of the year is December 2027 with 23 and the shortest is May 2027 with 19, a spread of 4. March ranks 6th of the twelve with 21.
Inside one of the year's denser months
March 2027 carries more than one Indian Central Government closure, which puts it among the year's denser months. Closures are never spread evenly across a year, so a month's own count says as much about the country's calendar as about the month.
Across 2027 the Indian Central Government closures fall 3 in Q1, 5 in Q2, 0 in Q3, and 1 in Q4. A further five holidays land on the Saturday and Sunday weekend and cost no working day at all, which is why a country's holiday count and its working-day loss are different numbers.
The longest uninterrupted run in the 2027 calendar sits between June 16, 2027 and October 29, 2027, 135 calendar days with no Indian Central Government closure in between. Stretches like that are where multi-week work belongs, and they move from year to year whenever a movable holiday does.
Where the month sits in the year's closure pattern
Closures are not spread evenly across a calendar year. They cluster around fixed anniversaries and around whichever lunar or movable feasts a jurisdiction observes, so two adjacent months can carry very different loads, and the Indian Central Government calendar is no exception.
2027 opens its Indian Central Government closures with Republic Day on January 26, 2027 and ends them with Diwali on October 29, 2027. The densest month of the year is March 2027 with two closures on working days.
The same count as last year
March 2027 and March 2026 carry the same number of working days, 21 in each. An unchanged total does not mean an unchanged month: the working days sit on different dates and break into different stretches, so a schedule copied forward date by date will not line up even though the capacity has not moved.
March opens 2026 on a Sunday, 2027 on a Monday, and 2028 on a Wednesday. That movement, one weekday in a common year and two after a leap day, is what makes the three counts differ. The count of closures on working days differs between the two years as well, so alignment is not the only thing moving. Looking ahead, March 2028 carries 23 working days.
Where the month's anchor dates fall
Two of the common monthly anchor dates in March 2027 land outside the working week or on a closure. The table below resolves each one against the Indian Central Government calendar, together with the first working day on or after it.
| Date | Weekday | Status under the Indian Central Government calendar | First working day on or after |
|---|---|---|---|
| March 1 | Monday | Working day | March 1 |
| March 5 | Friday | Working day | March 5 |
| March 10 | Wednesday | Closed: Eid ul-Fitr | March 11, 2027 |
| March 15 | Monday | Working day | March 15 |
| March 20 | Saturday | Weekend | March 22, 2027 |
| March 25 | Thursday | Working day | March 25 |
| March 31 | Wednesday | Working day | March 31 |
The final column is arithmetic, not a legal conclusion. Whether an obligation actually moves when its date is not a working day depends on the instrument that sets it, and this site does not assume a shift rule for any jurisdiction. Where a rule is known it is stated in the holiday data methodology and on the country page it applies to.
Net terms dated in March 2027
An invoice dated the 1st of March on calendar-day Net 30 terms comes due on March 31, 2027, a working day under the Indian Central Government calendar. Terms counted in calendar days move independently of the working week, so the same term written on two consecutive months can settle cleanly in one and roll across a closure in the other.
| Invoice date | Net 30, calendar days | Net 60, calendar days |
|---|---|---|
| Dated March 1 | March 31, 2027 | April 30, 2027 |
| Dated March 15 | April 14, 2027 (rolls to April 15, 2027) | May 14, 2027 |
| Dated March 31 | April 30, 2027 | May 30, 2027 (rolls to May 31, 2027) |
Net 30 and Net 60 are commercial conventions rather than statutory periods, and both are counted here in calendar days, which is how they are almost always written. Where a contract counts in working days instead, use the between-dates calculator with the India calendar selected, because the two produce different dates whenever a closure falls inside the term.
