Saudi Arabia March deadlines

Eid al-Fitr is the first of Article 24's two lunar holidays: four days beginning on the day after 29 Ramadan in the Umm al-Qura calendar, so its Gregorian dates change every year and the data does not place it in March each year. A VAT return for a tax period that ended in February is filed, and the tax paid, by the last day of March. The period is a month for a taxpayer whose taxable supplies exceeded SAR 40 million in the previous twelve months and three months for all others. The data puts the Eid al-Fitr holiday on Tuesday 9 to Friday 12 March 2027, three working days and a Friday. March 31, the VAT date, is a Wednesday. The Saudi Central Bank's schedule, a separate calendar from this data, gives financial institutions an Eid al-Fitr holiday from Sunday 7 to Thursday 11 March 2027, and the riyal interbank express system (RTGS) one from Monday 8 to Wednesday 10 March.

Those dates in 2027

Every date named above falls on a working day in 2027 under the Saudi public calendar. That is worth checking rather than assuming: the same calendar date moves through the week from year to year, so a date that settles cleanly this year may not next year.

Saudi Arabia reporting cycles and business-day rules

A VAT return is filed, and the tax paid, by the last day of the month after each tax period, and ZATCA's Implementing Regulations of the VAT Law keep that date whether or not it is a working day; a Working Day, as they define it, is any day except Friday, Saturday and a state holiday. The period is monthly for a taxpayer whose taxable supplies exceeded SAR 40 million in the previous twelve months; three months is the standard period for all others, who may apply for a monthly one. A Zakat payer that keeps accounting books submits the Zakat return, and pays the Zakat, within 120 days of the end of the Zakat year, and a period that ends on an official holiday runs to the first working day after it (Implementing Regulations for Zakat Collection, article 102). The income-tax return is due within 120 days of the end of the tax year under article 60 of the Income Tax Law, as ZATCA quotes it. The royal order of 23 June 2013 made Friday and Saturday the weekly holiday in all ministries, government bodies and institutions, financial institutions, the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency, the Capital Market Authority and the Saudi Stock Exchange.

How March 2027 compares year over year

March 2026 had 21 working days, so March 2027 has 1 fewer working day year over year. On the surrounding months, February 2027 has 19 working days and April 2027 has 22. Looking forward, March 2028 has 23 working days under the same Saudi public holiday calendar.

Using this calculator in Saudi Arabia

Count the 20 business days of March 2027 on the Sunday-to-Thursday week. A royal order of 23 June 2013, as the Saudi Press Agency reported it, made those the official working days in all ministries, government bodies and institutions, financial institutions, the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency, the Capital Market Authority and the Saudi Stock Exchange. Tax dates are not counted in business days: a VAT return is filed, and the tax paid, by the last day of the month after the tax period, whether or not that date is a working day, while the 120 days for the Zakat return, if they end on an official holiday, run on to the first working day after it.

How March 2027 is shaped

The headline count answers how many working days March 2027 contains. It does not answer where they sit, and for anything measured in consecutive days rather than cumulative days that second question is the binding one. What follows is derived entirely from the Saudi public holiday calendar and a working week that treats Friday and Saturday as the weekend, with no assumption about how any particular obligation behaves.

The month that closes the first quarter

March closes Q1 and is one of the seven 31-day months. Because it ends a quarter, its final working day is also the quarter's final working day, so a March count carries two boundaries rather than one. It is also the month in which the Gregorian year's day-of-week pattern first repeats: March and November always share the same weekday alignment in any given year.

In March 2027 that comes to 20 working days across 31 calendar days, against 19 in February 2027 and 21 in April 2027.

A start one day into the week

The 1st falls on the second working day of the week, so March inherits a part-week at the top. One working day of that week was spent in the previous month, which is why a month opening here reads short at the beginning and long at the end. Reporting cut on calendar weeks and reporting cut on the calendar month disagree about where the period starts, and the gap is exactly one working day.

The opening stretch runs from Monday, March 1 to March 4, four working days before the first break. March 2027 carries 20 working days in total, so that opening block is 20% of the month's working capacity.

Five working stretches

March splits into five working stretches. That is the ordinary shape of a month whose only interruptions are its weekends, and it means the month's internal boundaries are all predictable a year in advance: nothing here depends on a holiday date moving.

The working days of March 2027 arrive in stretches of 4, 2, 5, 5, and 4 days. The longest unbroken stretch runs five days, from March 14 to March 18. A task needing more consecutive working days than that cannot be completed inside a single stretch, whatever the month's total looks like.

The month is balanced end to end. Its opening and closing stretches are the same length, four days each, so work pushed from the start of March to its end finds the same amount of room it left behind. That symmetry is the exception rather than the rule.

Three weekdays occur five times

A 31-day month contains four full seven-day cycles and three days over, so exactly three weekdays occur five times and the other four occur four times. In March 2027 the three are Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Which three it is follows entirely from the weekday the month opens on, which is why the working-day count of a 31-day month moves year to year even when its holidays do not.

All of them are working days here, so the surplus lands entirely on the working week: Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday each occur 5 times. A weekend of two days can take at most two of them, and had it done so the same month would carry 18 working days rather than 20.

A month with several closures

March 2027 carries three Saudi public closures on working days: Eid al-Fitr (day 1) on March 9, Eid al-Fitr (day 2) on March 10, and Eid al-Fitr (day 3) on March 11. At this density the month's working-day total stops being a useful planning number on its own, because the days that remain are cut into short stretches rather than distributed evenly.

The run structure above is the figure to plan against. Where several closures cluster, a month can hold a respectable total and still offer no stretch long enough for a multi-day deliverable, and only the run lengths show that.

six working days pass before the closure and 14 follow it, which puts the break just short of the month's midpoint. A closure near the middle divides the month into two usable halves rather than trimming one end of it.

The closures around this month

March 2027 carries three Saudi public closures of its own, and the months on either side add their own. Where a deadline sits close to a month boundary, the closure that moves it is as likely to be outside the month as inside it.

Looking outside the month, the last was Founding Day on February 22, 2027, 7 calendar days before March began and the next is Eid al-Adha (day 1) on May 16, 2027, 46 calendar days after it ends.

Across the whole of 2027 the Saudi public calendar puts eight closures on working days, of which three fall in March. That ratio, rather than the raw count, is what tells you whether a month is carrying more than its share of the year's downtime.

One working day short of the week

March 2027 closes on the fourth working day of its final week, one day short of a full week. The remaining working day of that week belongs to the next month, so the last calendar week of March is split across two reporting periods. Weekly and monthly figures for that week will not agree, and the difference is one working day.

The last working day of March 2027 is Wednesday, March 31. Counting back from there, the third-to-last is Monday, March 29, two calendar days before the month closes.

The quarter closes here

March closes Q1, so the quarter's last working day and this month's last working day are the same date. Everything the quarter has deferred arrives inside these 20 working days, and there is no further month in the period to move it into.

Across the whole quarter there are 60 working days, of which 20 fall in March. The other two months carry January 2027 with 21 and February 2027 with 19. It sits between the other two, which makes it the month where a quarterly plan is least likely to be thrown off by the calendar alone.

The week's last working day is the scarcest

The last working day of the week is the one March gives least often. That matters more than the equivalent shortfall mid-week, because end-of-week cutoffs tend to be the ones that cannot move: work deferred past them waits out the whole weekend rather than a single night.

Counted as worked rather than as occurring, March 2027 gives Sunday 4, Monday 5, Tuesday 4, Wednesday 4, and Thursday 3. A weekly commitment pinned to a particular weekday fires that many times in the month, which is the number a rota needs and not the one the calendar shows.

Toward the short end of the year

March sits among the shorter working months of 2027 under the Saudi public calendar. A month reaches this end of the ranking either by being short or by absorbing closures, and the two produce the same headline number while behaving differently: a closure fragments the month, a shorter calendar does not.

2027 carries 252 working days in total under the Saudi public calendar. The longest month of the year is August 2027 with 23 and the shortest is May 2027 with 19, a spread of 4. March ranks 10th of the twelve with 20.

Inside one of the year's denser months

March 2027 carries more than one Saudi public closure, which puts it among the year's denser months. Closures are never spread evenly across a year, so a month's own count says as much about the country's calendar as about the month.

Across 2027 the Saudi public closures fall 4 in Q1, 3 in Q2, 1 in Q3, and 0 in Q4. A further two holidays land on the Friday and Saturday weekend and cost no working day at all, which is why a country's holiday count and its working-day loss are different numbers.

The longest uninterrupted run in the 2027 calendar sits between May 18, 2027 and September 23, 2027, 128 calendar days with no Saudi public closure in between. Stretches like that are where multi-week work belongs, and they move from year to year whenever a movable holiday does.

Where the month sits in the year's closure pattern

Closures are not spread evenly across a calendar year. They cluster around fixed anniversaries and around whichever lunar or movable feasts a jurisdiction observes, so two adjacent months can carry very different loads, and the Saudi public calendar is no exception.

2027 opens its Saudi public closures with Founding Day on February 22, 2027 and ends them with Saudi National Day on September 23, 2027. The densest month of the year is March 2027 with three closures on working days.

One working day fewer than last year

March 2027 has one working day fewer than March 2026: 20 against 21. On a monthly target that is roughly 5% less working time for the same calendar period, which is the size of gap that shows up as an unexplained miss rather than as a known constraint.

March opens 2026 on a Sunday, 2027 on a Monday, and 2028 on a Wednesday. That movement, one weekday in a common year and two after a leap day, is what makes the three counts differ. The count of closures on working days differs between the two years as well, so alignment is not the only thing moving. Looking ahead, March 2028 carries 22 working days.

Anchor dates that do not fall on working days

Three of the common monthly anchor dates in March 2027 land on a day this calendar does not work. A month with this many blocked anchors pushes several cycles onto the same few dates, because each of them resolves forward to the next available working day and those tend to be shared.

The final column is arithmetic, not a legal conclusion. Whether an obligation actually moves when its date is not a working day depends on the instrument that sets it, and this site does not assume a shift rule for any jurisdiction. Where a rule is known it is stated in the holiday data methodology and on the country page it applies to.

Net terms dated in March 2027

An invoice dated the 1st of March on calendar-day Net 30 terms comes due on March 31, 2027, a working day under the Saudi public calendar. Terms counted in calendar days move independently of the working week, so the same term written on two consecutive months can settle cleanly in one and roll across a closure in the other.

Net 30 and Net 60 are commercial conventions rather than statutory periods, and both are counted here in calendar days, which is how they are almost always written. Where a contract counts in working days instead, use the between-dates calculator with the Saudi Arabia calendar selected, because the two produce different dates whenever a closure falls inside the term.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many business days are in March 2027 under the Saudi public holiday calendar?
March 2027 has 20 working days under the Saudi public holiday calendar. The month spans 31 calendar days, of which 8 fall on a weekend and 3 are Saudi public holidays that land on a weekday. The remaining 20 weekdays are countable as working days for invoicing, deadline tracking, and contract math.
Which Saudi Arabia holidays affect March 2027?
March 2027 contains 3 Saudi public holidays: Eid al-Fitr (day 1) on Tuesday, March 9; Eid al-Fitr (day 2) on Wednesday, March 10; Eid al-Fitr (day 3) on Thursday, March 11. The calculator skips each of them. Regional or industry-specific closures may add further non-working days for narrower contract definitions; layer them into the calculator's Advanced options if needed.
Which days does the Saudi working week cover?
A royal order of 23 June 2013, as the Saudi Press Agency reported it, made Sunday to Thursday the official working days and Friday and Saturday the weekly holiday in all ministries, government bodies and institutions, financial institutions, the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency, the Capital Market Authority and the Saudi Stock Exchange. In the private sector, Article 104 of the Labour Law makes Friday the weekly rest day for all workers, which an employer may replace with another day of the week for some of them after notifying the competent labour office. This calculator counts Sunday to Thursday and leaves Friday and Saturday out. In Qatar, Emiri Decision No. 57 of 2025 sets the State's working days from Sunday to Thursday, with Friday and Saturday the weekly holiday, while the UAE federal government's weekend has been Saturday and Sunday since 1 January 2022.
What is the difference between Zakat and Saudi corporate income tax?
Zakat is levied at 2.5% of the Zakat base for a Hijri year, prorated by days when the payer's fiscal year is not the Hijri year (Implementing Regulations for Zakat Collection, article 15). The Regulations apply to a resident Saudi person who carries on a licensed activity in the Kingdom, to companies owned by Saudi persons and to the share a Saudi partner holds in a resident company (article 3); they define "Saudi" to include nationals of a GCC member state who are accorded similar treatment as Saudi nationals (article 1). The Income Tax Law, as ZATCA describes it, applies to resident capital companies on the shares owned by non-Saudi partners and to non-residents who do business through a permanent establishment in the Kingdom or derive income from sources there. In a resident company with Saudi and non-Saudi partners, Zakat therefore falls on the Saudi share and income tax on the other; one exception is that the Regulations put under Zakat the shares that non-Saudi shareholders other than founders hold in companies listed on the Saudi Stock Exchange (article 3). A Zakat payer that keeps accounting books submits the Zakat return, and pays the Zakat, within 120 days of the end of the Zakat year, and a period that ends on an official holiday runs to the first working day after it (article 102). The income-tax return is due within 120 days of the end of the tax year (Income Tax Law, article 60, as ZATCA quotes it). For a fiscal year that ended on 31 December 2025, ZATCA's calendar gave 30 April 2026 as the last date to submit and pay both.
Why does the business-day count vary year to year?
Two things shift the monthly count for Saudi Arabia. First, the day of the week the first of the month lands on changes the count of each weekday. Second, Saudi public holidays anchored to a fixed date shift their weekday across years. Some years a fixed-date holiday lands on a weekend; some countries shift the observance to an adjacent weekday and some absorb it into the weekend. March 2026 had 21 working days, so March 2027 has 1 fewer working day year over year.
When is the last working day of March 2027?
The last working day of March 2027 under the Saudi public calendar is Wednesday, March 31. The month's last calendar day is Wednesday, March 31, so the two are the same date this year. Counting back, the third-to-last working day is Monday, March 29.
How many working days in a row does March 2027 offer?
March 2027 has 20 working days in total, but they do not run consecutively. They arrive in five stretches of 4, 2, 5, 5, and 4 days, so the longest unbroken run is five days, from March 14 to March 18. No working day in the month is isolated between two closures.
