Business Days in April 2027 for United Kingdom

April 2027 has 22 working days under the England and Wales bank holiday calendar. April 2027 contains no England and Wales bank holidays on a weekday. The month covers 30 calendar days, of which 8 are Saturday and Sunday. That count drives invoice cycles, payroll runs, and any contract that defines deadlines as a number of working days in United Kingdom.

bank holidays in April 2027

No England and Wales bank holidays fall on a weekday in April 2027, so the month loses no working day to a holiday on this calendar.

United Kingdom April deadlines

April 5 closes the UK tax year and April 6 opens the new one. The final Full Payment Submission of the old year goes to HMRC on or before the employees' last payday of that year, and employee payroll records are updated from April 6. P60s for everyone on the payroll at April 5 must reach them by May 31. Good Friday and Easter Monday move with Easter and can each land in March or in April, so the count of working days in April in England and Wales depends on where Easter falls.

Those dates in 2027

Every date named above falls on a working day in 2027 under the England and Wales bank calendar. That is worth checking rather than assuming: the same calendar date moves through the week from year to year, so a date that settles cleanly this year may not next year.

United Kingdom reporting cycles and business-day rules

HMRC's guidance gives PAYE two separate dates. An employer sends the Full Payment Submission on or before its employees' payday, even if it pays HMRC quarterly instead of monthly, with the exceptions HMRC lists for sending one after payday. An employer that pays monthly pays its PAYE bill by the 22nd of the next tax month, and a cheque sent through the post must reach HMRC by the 19th. A tax month starts on the 6th. The Bank of England describes the CHAPS system as usually open from 6am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, excluding bank or public holidays in England and Wales, and says customer payments must be submitted by 5.40pm. Section 442 of the Companies Act 2006 gives a private company nine months after the end of the relevant accounting reference period to file its accounts, with other periods for a first accounting reference period of more than twelve months and for a shortened one. Section 443 counts that period in months: it ends with the date in the ninth following month that corresponds to the last day of the reference period, or with the last day of that month where the reference period ends on the last day of a month.

April 2027 working days compared by country

Working-day counts vary across countries because each country observes its own public holidays. The table below shows April 2027 under 11 of the site's 25 holiday calendars; the summary above gives United Kingdom's own count.

How April 2027 compares year over year

April 2026 had 20 working days, so April 2027 has 2 more working days year over year. On the surrounding months, March 2027 has 21 working days and May 2027 has 19. Looking forward, April 2028 has 18 working days under the same England and Wales bank holiday calendar.

Using this calculator in United Kingdom

With the bank holidays of England and Wales left out, April 2027 has 22 working days from Monday to Friday. Where your contract counts a period in business days, the UK calculator on this site counts it with the bank holidays of England and Wales. Court time limits under the Civil Procedure Rules are a separate matter. Rule 2.8 computes a period expressed as a number of days as clear days, which leaves out the day on which the period begins and, if the end of the period is defined by reference to an event, the day of that event. Where the specified period is 5 days or less, a Saturday, Sunday, Bank Holiday, Christmas Day or Good Friday in it does not count. For VAT, HMRC gives the deadline for submitting a return online, which is also the deadline for paying, as usually one calendar month and 7 days after the end of an accounting period, and says the return and the payment must reach it on or before the deadline even if it is on a weekend or bank holiday.

How April 2027 is shaped

The headline count answers how many working days April 2027 contains. It does not answer where they sit, and for anything measured in consecutive days rather than cumulative days that second question is the binding one. What follows is derived entirely from the England and Wales bank holiday calendar and a working week that treats Saturday and Sunday as the weekend, with no assumption about how any particular obligation behaves.

A 30-day month opening the second quarter

April runs 30 days and opens Q2. It shares its weekday alignment with July in every year, so the two months have the same internal shape before holidays are applied, and any difference between their working-day counts comes entirely from closures rather than from the calendar. April is also one of the four months that begin a quarter, which puts its first working day at the head of a reporting period.

In April 2027 that comes to 22 working days across 30 calendar days, against 21 in March 2027 and 19 in May 2027.

A late-week start

The month opens on the fourth working day of the week, which leaves only a short tail before the first weekend. The practical consequence is that the month's first genuinely full working week does not begin on the 1st at all. Anything scoped as "we have the first week to do this" has materially less time than the phrase suggests, and the shortfall is visible in the opening run below.

The opening stretch runs from Thursday, April 1 to April 2, two working days before the first break. April 2027 carries 22 working days in total, so that opening block is 9% of the month's working capacity.

Five working stretches

April splits into five working stretches. That is the ordinary shape of a month whose only interruptions are its weekends, and it means the month's internal boundaries are all predictable a year in advance: nothing here depends on a holiday date moving.

The working days of April 2027 arrive in stretches of 2, 5, 5, 5, and 5 days. The longest unbroken stretch runs five days, from April 5 to April 9. A task needing more consecutive working days than that cannot be completed inside a single stretch, whatever the month's total looks like.

The month is back-loaded. It opens with two consecutive days and closes with five, so the room is at the end rather than the start. That is the safer of the two imbalances, because a slip has somewhere to go, but it also makes the opening week a poor sample of the month.

Two weekdays occur five times

Thirty days is four seven-day cycles plus two, so a 30-day month has exactly two weekdays occurring five times and five occurring four times. Here they are Thursday and Friday. The pair is always consecutive, because the surplus days are the first two of the month repeated at its end.

All of them are working days here, so the surplus lands entirely on the working week: Thursday and Friday each occur 5 times. Had the surplus fallen on the weekend instead, the same month would carry 20 working days rather than 22.

A month with no closures, and a long one

April 2027 contains no England and Wales bank holiday on any date, working or otherwise. A month with no closure loses working days only to weekends, so its count is set entirely by the weekday it opens on and its length, and here both work in the month's favour: 22 working days across 30 calendar days.

Months at this end of the range are the ones worth reserving for work that needs consecutive days rather than cumulative days. The constraint that usually breaks a long run, a closure landing mid-week, is absent, so the month's structure is entirely weekend-driven and repeats on a seven-day cycle.

A closure sits just outside the month

April 2027 contains no England and Wales bank closure of its own, but one sits within a week of its edge. A closure just outside a month still reaches into it: work displaced from the closed day lands on the working days beside it, and those are inside April whichever side the holiday falls on.

Looking outside the month, the last was Easter Monday on March 29, 2027, 3 calendar days before April began and the next is Early May Bank Holiday on May 3, 2027, 3 calendar days after it ends.

Across the whole of 2027 the England and Wales bank calendar puts eight closures on working days, of which none falls in April. That ratio, rather than the raw count, is what tells you whether a month is carrying more than its share of the year's downtime.

The working month and the calendar month end together

The month's last calendar day is also the last working day of a week. Month-end and week-end fall on the same date in April 2027, which is the one alignment where a weekly close and a monthly close cannot be separated. Everything queued for both runs on the same day, and there is no working day left in April to absorb a slip.

The last working day of April 2027 is Friday, April 30. Counting back from there, the third-to-last is Wednesday, April 28, two calendar days before the month closes.

The quarter opens here

April is the first month of Q2. An opening month sets the baseline the rest of the quarter is measured against, and it is the one month where a slip has two further months to be absorbed in. Quarterly targets divided evenly by three ignore the fact that the three months rarely carry equal working-day counts.

Across the whole quarter there are 63 working days, of which 22 fall in April. The other two months carry May 2027 with 19 and June 2027 with 22. It is the largest of the three, so work deferred out of April lands in a month with less room than this one had.

The week's first working day is the scarcest

The first working day of the week is the one April gives least often. Anything anchored to the start of the working week (a weekly kickoff, a Monday-morning cutoff, a start-of-week batch) fires fewer times this month than the calendar count suggests, because a closure has taken one of them out.

Counted as worked rather than as occurring, April 2027 gives Monday 4, Tuesday 4, Wednesday 4, Thursday 5, and Friday 5. A weekly commitment pinned to a particular weekday fires that many times in the month, which is the number a rota needs and not the one the calendar shows.

One of the year's longest working months

No month of 2027 carries more working days than April under the England and Wales bank calendar. A year's working days are not distributed evenly across its twelve months, and the gap between the longest and the shortest is wide enough that a target divided by twelve is wrong in both directions.

2027 carries 253 working days in total under the England and Wales bank calendar. The longest month of the year is April 2027 with 22 and the shortest is May 2027 with 19, a spread of 3. April ranks 1st of the twelve with 22.

United Kingdom closures across the year

A month's working-day count only means something against the country's whole calendar. Two countries that share a weekend and happen to have the same closure-free month can still run very different years, and United Kingdom is placed as follows.

Across 2027 the England and Wales bank closures fall 3 in Q1, 2 in Q2, 1 in Q3, and 2 in Q4. Every holiday in the England and Wales bank data for 2027 falls on a working day, so the country's holiday count and its working-day loss are the same number this year, which is not usually the case.

The longest uninterrupted run in the 2027 calendar sits between August 30, 2027 and December 27, 2027, 119 calendar days with no England and Wales bank closure in between. Stretches like that are where multi-week work belongs, and they move from year to year whenever a movable holiday does.

Where the month sits in the year's closure pattern

Closures are not spread evenly across a calendar year. They cluster around fixed anniversaries and around whichever lunar or movable feasts a jurisdiction observes, so two adjacent months can carry very different loads, and the England and Wales bank calendar is no exception.

2027 opens its England and Wales bank closures with New Year's Day on January 1, 2027 and ends them with Boxing Day (observed) on December 28, 2027. The densest month of the year is March 2027 with two closures on working days.

A materially longer month than last year

April 2027 carries 2 more working days than April 2026 did (22 against 20). A swing of two or more days in the same month between adjacent years is large: it means the weekday alignment moved and a closure changed position, not just one of the two. Any run-rate carried forward from last year understates this month.

April opens 2026 on a Wednesday, 2027 on a Thursday, and 2028 on a Saturday. That movement, one weekday in a common year and two after a leap day, is what makes the three counts differ. The count of closures on working days differs between the two years as well, so alignment is not the only thing moving. Looking ahead, April 2028 carries 18 working days.

Where the month's anchor dates fall

Two of the common monthly anchor dates in April 2027 land outside the working week or on a closure. The table below resolves each one against the England and Wales bank calendar, together with the first working day on or after it.

DateWeekdayStatus under the England and Wales bank calendarFirst working day on or after

The final column is arithmetic, not a legal conclusion. Whether an obligation actually moves when its date is not a working day depends on the instrument that sets it, and this site does not assume a shift rule for any jurisdiction. Where a rule is known it is stated in the holiday data methodology and on the country page it applies to.

Net terms dated in April 2027

An invoice dated the 1st of April on calendar-day Net 30 terms comes due on May 1, 2027, which is not a working day under the England and Wales bank calendar. A term counted in calendar days can land anywhere in the week, and roughly two days in seven it lands somewhere nothing settles, which is the ordinary reason a payment shows as late by a day or two without anyone being late.

Invoice dateNet 30, calendar daysNet 60, calendar days

Dated April 30May 30, 2027 (rolls to June 1, 2027)June 29, 2027

Net 30 and Net 60 are commercial conventions rather than statutory periods, and both are counted here in calendar days, which is how they are almost always written. Where a contract counts in working days instead, use the between-dates calculator with the United Kingdom calendar selected, because the two produce different dates whenever a closure falls inside the term.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many business days are in April 2027 under the England and Wales bank holiday calendar?
April 2027 has 22 working days under the England and Wales bank holiday calendar. The month spans 30 calendar days, of which 8 fall on a weekend and 0 are England and Wales bank holidays that land on a weekday. The remaining 22 weekdays are countable as working days for invoicing, deadline tracking, and contract math.
Which United Kingdom holidays affect April 2027?
April 2027 contains no England and Wales bank holidays that fall on a weekday, so on this calculator's holiday set the month loses no working day.
Which countries does this UK calendar cover?
England and Wales. Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own bank holidays, and this site has a separate page for each that lists their dates. Schedule 1 to the Banking and Financial Dealings Act 1971 names for Scotland, among others, 2 January (3 January when the 2nd is a Sunday), the first Monday in August and 30 November (the following Monday when it is a Saturday or Sunday), and neither Easter Monday nor the last Monday in August. For Northern Ireland it names the England and Wales days and 17 March, or 18 March when the 17th is a Sunday. Proclamations published in The London Gazette on 11 July 2025 and 10 July 2026 appointed Monday 13 July 2026 and Monday 12 July 2027 as bank holidays in Northern Ireland. You can add Scotland's or Northern Ireland's further dates under the UK calculator's Advanced options, one per line. The Advanced options can add dates but not remove them, so a count that crosses Easter Monday or the last Monday in August, England and Wales bank holidays not in Scotland's calendar, will land one working day later than Scotland's own for each of those dates it crosses.
How does the Banking and Financial Dealings Act 1971 affect this count?
Section 1 of the Banking and Financial Dealings Act 1971 makes the days in Schedule 1 bank holidays and lets further days be appointed by proclamation. For England and Wales, Schedule 1 lists Easter Monday, the last Monday in May, the last Monday in August, 26 December if it is not a Sunday, and 27 December in a year in which 25 or 26 December is a Sunday. Christmas Day and Good Friday are not in that list; section 1(4) refers to them separately from a bank holiday under the Act. New Year's Day and the first Monday in May are not in it either: proclamations published in The London Gazette on 11 July 2025 and 10 July 2026 appointed 1 January, the first Monday in May and 28 December as bank holidays in England, Wales and Northern Ireland for 2026 and for 2027. When a bank holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, gov.uk lists a substitute weekday, and the calculator leaves that day out instead.
Why does the business-day count vary year to year?
Two things shift the monthly count for United Kingdom. First, the day of the week the first of the month lands on changes the count of each weekday. Second, England and Wales bank holidays anchored to a fixed date shift their weekday across years. Some years a fixed-date holiday lands on a weekend; some countries shift the observance to an adjacent weekday and some absorb it into the weekend. April 2026 had 20 working days, so April 2027 has 2 more working days year over year.
When is the last working day of April 2027?
The last working day of April 2027 under the England and Wales bank calendar is Friday, April 30. The month's last calendar day is Friday, April 30, so the two are the same date this year. Counting back, the third-to-last working day is Wednesday, April 28.
How many working days in a row does April 2027 offer?
April 2027 has 22 working days in total, but they do not run consecutively. They arrive in five stretches of 2, 5, 5, 5, and 5 days, so the longest unbroken run is five days, from April 5 to April 9. No working day in the month is isolated between two closures.
