Ireland August deadlines

Employers pay July's PAYE liability within 14 days after the end of the month, or 23 days on ROS, and a company with a 30 November year end files its CT1 by August 23. The August public holiday is the first Monday in August, and T2 stays open on it. August carries no VAT date. It falls on Monday 2 August in 2027.

Those dates in 2027

Every date named above falls on a working day in 2027 under the Irish calendar. That is worth checking rather than assuming: the same calendar date moves through the week from year to year, so a date that settles cleanly this year may not next year.

Ireland reporting cycles and business-day rules

Revenue sets Irish VAT on two-month taxable periods starting in January, March, May, July, September and November: the return and payment are due by the 19th day of the month after each period, extended to the 23rd for ROS filers. An employer's monthly PAYE liability, shown on a Revenue statement built from the month's payroll submissions, is due 14 days after the end of the month, or 23 days for employers who file and pay on ROS. A company files its CT1 return and pays any balance nine months after the end of its accounting period, on or before the 23rd of the ninth month (the 21st if it does not file and pay electronically). T2, the Eurosystem's real-time gross settlement system, which replaced TARGET2 in March 2023, is open Monday to Friday and, for euro settlement, also closed on 1 January, Good Friday, Easter Monday, 1 May, 25 December and 26 December. It does not close for St Patrick's Day (17 March) or for the Irish public holidays in February, June, August and October, and it does close on 1 May, which is an Irish public holiday only when it is the first Monday in May. Under the European Communities (Late Payment in Commercial Transactions) Regulations 2012, as amended in 2013, 2014 and 2016, statutory late payment interest is the ECB main refinancing rate plus 8 percentage points; between undertakings a contract may vary that interest, provided the result is not grossly unfair to the creditor. A payment date or period that a contract between undertakings sets beyond 60 calendar days must be expressly agreed and not grossly unfair to the supplier. Where the contract specifies no date or period for payment, the payment date falls 30 calendar days after the purchaser receives the invoice, after delivery where the invoice arrives first or its date of receipt is uncertain, or after an acceptance or verification procedure where one applies and the invoice arrives no later than it. Interest runs from the day after the payment date.

August 2027 working days compared by country

Working-day counts vary across countries because each country observes its own public holidays. The table below shows August 2027 under 11 of the site's 25 holiday calendars; the summary above gives Ireland's own count.

How August 2027 compares year over year

August 2026 had 20 working days, so August 2027 has 1 more working day year over year. On the surrounding months, July 2027 has 22 working days and September 2027 has 22. Looking forward, August 2028 has 22 working days under the same Irish holiday calendar.

Using this calculator in Ireland

Count the 21 business days of August 2027 against Revenue's dates when one is near: VAT for each two-month period is due by the 19th day of the following month, or the 23rd for ROS filers; an employer's PAYE for a month within 14 days after its end, or 23 days on ROS; and a company's CT1 return and balance on or before the 23rd of the ninth month after its accounting period ends (the 21st if it does not file and pay electronically). A euro payment that settles through T2 cannot settle on 1 January, Good Friday, Easter Monday, 1 May, 25 December or 26 December, although T2 does not close for St Patrick's Day or for the Irish public holidays in February, June, August and October. Where a contract specifies no date or period for payment, the Late Payment Regulations 2012, as amended, put the payment date 30 calendar days after the purchaser receives the invoice, after delivery where the invoice arrives first or its date of receipt is uncertain, or after an acceptance or verification procedure where one applies and the invoice arrives no later than it.

How August 2027 is shaped

The headline count answers how many working days August 2027 contains. It does not answer where they sit, and for anything measured in consecutive days rather than cumulative days that second question is the binding one. What follows is derived entirely from the Irish holiday calendar and a working week that treats Saturday and Sunday as the weekend, with no assumption about how any particular obligation behaves.

The middle month of the third quarter

August runs 31 days and sits in the middle of Q3, so it opens and closes nothing: no quarter, no half, no year. That makes it the month whose working-day count is least likely to be checked and most likely to be assumed. In a common year August shares its weekday alignment with February and March, which is the widest such group in the calendar.

In August 2027 that comes to 21 working days across 31 calendar days, against 22 in July 2027 and 22 in September 2027.

The month opens across a weekend

The 1st of August is a Sunday, a weekend day under the Irish calendar, whose week runs against a Saturday and Sunday weekend. Nothing that settles on working days moves on it. A month that opens this way loses its first working day to the calendar before any holiday is counted, and monthly cycles keyed to the 1st all resolve forward to the same date, which concentrates them.

The month's first working day is Tuesday, August 3, and August 2027 carries 21 working days in total.

Five working stretches

August splits into five working stretches. That is the ordinary shape of a month whose only interruptions are its weekends, and it means the month's internal boundaries are all predictable a year in advance: nothing here depends on a holiday date moving.

The working days of August 2027 arrive in stretches of 4, 5, 5, 5, and 2 days. The longest unbroken stretch runs five days, from August 9 to August 13. A task needing more consecutive working days than that cannot be completed inside a single stretch, whatever the month's total looks like.

The month is front-loaded. It opens with four consecutive days and closes with two, so capacity thins toward the end. Work deferred out of the first stretch arrives in a shorter one, which is how a schedule that looked comfortable in week one stops fitting.

Three weekdays occur five times

A 31-day month contains four full seven-day cycles and three days over, so exactly three weekdays occur five times and the other four occur four times. In August 2027 the three are Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. Which three it is follows entirely from the weekday the month opens on, which is why the working-day count of a 31-day month moves year to year even when its holidays do not.

Only Monday and Tuesday among them are working days, so part of the surplus is absorbed by the Saturday and Sunday weekend and never reaches the working total. That split is why two months of the same length can carry different working-day counts without any holiday being involved.

One closure, and where it lands

August 2027 carries a single Irish closure on a working day: August Bank Holiday on Monday, August 2. A holiday's cost to a month is not only the day it removes; it is also where the removal falls, because the same closure can extend an existing break or cut a working stretch in half.

It sits directly beside a weekend rather than inside a working week, so it extends an existing break instead of creating a new one. That is the cheapest position a holiday can occupy: the month loses a day but keeps its shape.

The closure arrives before any working day has passed, so August is interrupted before it has started and the whole of its 21 remaining working days sit after the break.

The closures around this month

August 2027 carries one Irish closure of its own, and the months on either side add their own. Where a deadline sits close to a month boundary, the closure that moves it is as likely to be outside the month as inside it.

Looking outside the month, the last was June Bank Holiday on June 7, 2027, 55 calendar days before August began and the next is October Bank Holiday on October 25, 2027, 55 calendar days after it ends.

Across the whole of 2027 the Irish calendar puts ten closures on working days, of which one falls in August. That ratio, rather than the raw count, is what tells you whether a month is carrying more than its share of the year's downtime.

An early-week close

August runs out after the second working day of its last week. Most of that week belongs to the next month, so the tail of August 2027 is unusually thin: two working days carry whatever the month-end process needs, and the week's remaining capacity is not available to this period.

The last working day of August 2027 is Tuesday, August 31. Counting back from there, the third-to-last is Friday, August 27, four calendar days before the month closes.

The middle month of the quarter

August is the middle month of Q3. Middle months carry the least visibility in a quarterly cycle: the opening month sets expectations and the closing month is where they are settled, so a shortfall here is the one most likely to be noticed late.

Across the whole quarter there are 65 working days, of which 21 fall in August. The other two months carry July 2027 with 22 and September 2027 with 22. It is the smallest of the three, so the quarter's capacity sits mostly in the other two months and a plan that spreads work evenly across the quarter will over-commit August.

The week's first working day is the scarcest

The first working day of the week is the one August gives least often. Anything anchored to the start of the working week (a weekly kickoff, a Monday-morning cutoff, a start-of-week batch) fires fewer times this month than the calendar count suggests, because a closure has taken one of them out.

Counted as worked rather than as occurring, August 2027 gives Monday 4, Tuesday 5, Wednesday 4, Thursday 4, and Friday 4. A weekly commitment pinned to a particular weekday fires that many times in the month, which is the number a rota needs and not the one the calendar shows.

Where the month sits in the year

August sits in the middle of 2027 by working-day count under the Irish calendar. The middle of that ranking is where a month's total is least informative on its own, because a mid-ranked month can be a long month carrying closures or a short one carrying none, and the two need different plans.

2027 carries 251 working days in total under the Irish calendar. The longest month of the year is April 2027 with 22 and the shortest is February 2027 with 19, a spread of 3. August ranks 7th of the twelve with 21.

Inside the year's longest clear run

August 2027 sits inside the longest stretch of 2027 with no Irish closure in it. Where a month falls relative to its country's closure clusters changes what the same working-day count is worth: an uninterrupted month inside a long clear run behaves differently from one of equal length wedged between two closures.

Across 2027 the Irish closures fall 5 in Q1, 2 in Q2, 1 in Q3, and 2 in Q4. Every holiday in the Irish data for 2027 falls on a working day, so the country's holiday count and its working-day loss are the same number this year, which is not usually the case.

The longest uninterrupted run in the 2027 calendar sits between August 2, 2027 and October 25, 2027, 84 calendar days with no Irish closure in between. Stretches like that are where multi-week work belongs, and they move from year to year whenever a movable holiday does.

Where the month sits in the year's closure pattern

Closures are not spread evenly across a calendar year. They cluster around fixed anniversaries and around whichever lunar or movable feasts a jurisdiction observes, so two adjacent months can carry very different loads, and the Irish calendar is no exception.

2027 opens its Irish closures with New Year's Day on January 1, 2027 and ends them with St Stephen's Day (additional) on December 27, 2027. The densest month of the year is March 2027 with three closures on working days.

One working day more than last year

There is one more working day in August 2027 than in August 2026: 21 against 20. A single-day swing is the ordinary case, produced by the calendar shifting forward one weekday between consecutive common years, and it is large enough to matter to a monthly target and small enough to be missed.

August opens 2026 on a Saturday, 2027 on a Sunday, and 2028 on a Tuesday. That movement, one weekday in a common year and two after a leap day, is what makes the three counts differ. The number of closures on working days is the same in both years, so the whole of any difference comes from weekday alignment. Looking ahead, August 2028 carries 22 working days.

Where the month's anchor dates fall

Two of the common monthly anchor dates in August 2027 land outside the working week or on a closure. The table below resolves each one against the Irish calendar, together with the first working day on or after it.

The final column is arithmetic, not a legal conclusion. Whether an obligation actually moves when its date is not a working day depends on the instrument that sets it, and this site does not assume a shift rule for any jurisdiction. Where a rule is known it is stated in the holiday data methodology and on the country page it applies to.

Net terms dated in August 2027

An invoice dated the 1st of August on calendar-day Net 30 terms comes due on August 31, 2027, a working day under the Irish calendar. Terms counted in calendar days move independently of the working week, so the same term written on two consecutive months can settle cleanly in one and roll across a closure in the other.

Invoice dateNet 30, calendar daysNet 60, calendar days

Net 30 and Net 60 are commercial conventions rather than statutory periods, and both are counted here in calendar days, which is how they are almost always written. Where a contract counts in working days instead, use the between-dates calculator with the Ireland calendar selected, because the two produce different dates whenever a closure falls inside the term.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many business days are in August 2027 under the Irish holiday calendar?
August 2027 has 21 working days under the Irish holiday calendar. The month spans 31 calendar days, of which 9 fall on a weekend and 1 is an Irish holiday that lands on a weekday. The remaining 21 weekdays are countable as working days for invoicing, deadline tracking, and contract math.
Which Ireland holidays affect August 2027?
August 2027 contains one Irish holiday: August Bank Holiday on Monday, August 2. The calculator skips it. Regional or industry-specific closures may add further non-working days for narrower contract definitions; layer them into the calculator's Advanced options if needed.
Why is St Brigid's Day included from 2023 onward?
S.I. No. 50 of 2022, made under the Organisation of Working Time Act 1997, prescribed St Brigid's Day as Ireland's tenth public holiday from 2023: the first Monday in February each year, or 1 February itself when that falls on a Friday. The explanatory note to the regulations ties the day to Imbolc and St Brigid, and names Monday 6 February 2023 as the first.
What happens when an Irish public holiday falls on a weekend?
It stays a public holiday on its own date: the Organisation of Working Time Act 1997 moves none of them. The employee's benefit becomes a paid day off within a month, an extra day of annual leave or an extra day's pay, and the Workplace Relations Commission states that there is no legal entitlement to have the next working day off. The Banking & Payments Federation Ireland's bank-holiday lists still close the banks on the next free weekday after each weekend public holiday they cover. Government offices close it after a Sunday holiday (civil-service Circular 5/1984); after a Saturday one the circular only lets a department grant its staff a day off. This calculator counts that weekday as closed, marked (additional), where banks and Government offices both close it, which after a Saturday holiday means a department's own closure list shows it closed, and as a business day otherwise. Easter Monday, St Brigid's Day and the Monday holidays in May, June, August and October always fall on a weekday.
Why does the business-day count vary year to year?
Two things shift the monthly count for Ireland. First, the day of the week the first of the month lands on changes the count of each weekday. Second, Irish holidays anchored to a fixed date shift their weekday across years. Some years a fixed-date holiday lands on a weekend; some countries shift the observance to an adjacent weekday and some absorb it into the weekend. August 2026 had 20 working days, so August 2027 has 1 more working day year over year.
When is the last working day of August 2027?
The last working day of August 2027 under the Irish calendar is Tuesday, August 31. The month's last calendar day is Tuesday, August 31, so the two are the same date this year. Counting back, the third-to-last working day is Friday, August 27.
How many working days in a row does August 2027 offer?
August 2027 has 21 working days in total, but they do not run consecutively. They arrive in five stretches of 4, 5, 5, 5, and 2 days, so the longest unbroken run is five days, from August 9 to August 13. No working day in the month is isolated between two closures.
