Central Government holidays in August 2027
No Indian Central Government holidays fall on a weekday in August 2027, so the month loses no working day to a holiday on this calendar.
India August deadlines
Independence Day, 15 August, is a national holiday for every Central Government office. A monthly GST taxpayer files GSTR-3B for July by August 20, and a quarterly-scheme taxpayer pays tax for July in PMT-06 by August 25. Provident fund contributions for July are remitted within fifteen days of the close of the month, by August 15 (Employees' Provident Funds Scheme, 2026, paragraph 28). Independence Day 2027 is a Sunday, and the Department of Personnel and Training's 2027 list puts the Prophet's Birthday on the same day. Its memorandum gives no substitute holiday for a holiday that falls on a weekly off, so this calculator closes no weekday for either.

India reporting cycles and business-day rules
This calculator counts Monday to Friday and leaves out the 14 holidays that the Department of Personnel and Training's Office Memorandum on the 2027 holidays (F.No.12/2/2023-JCA, dated 16 July 2026) lists as compulsory for Central Government administrative offices, plus Dr. Ambedkar Jayanti. Paragraph 3.2 of that memorandum allows no substitute holiday when a festival holiday falls on a weekly off or another non-working day, or when more than one festival falls on the same day, and the calculator adds none. Under rule 61 of the CGST Rules, 2017 a monthly GSTR-3B is due on or before the 20th of the following month, and a quarterly one on or before the 22nd or the 24th of the month after the quarter, depending on the state or union territory of the principal place of business. Section 408(1) of the Income-tax Act, 2025 has advance tax paid in four instalments, due on or before 15 June, 15 September, 15 December and 15 March. These pages give those dates as the rule and the section state them and adjust none for a Sunday or a holiday.

How August 2027 compares year over year
August 2026 had 20 working days, so August 2027 has 2 more working days year over year. On the surrounding months, July 2027 has 22 working days and September 2027 has 22. Looking forward, August 2028 has 21 working days under the same Indian Central Government holiday calendar.
Using this calculator in India
The 22 working days in August 2027 are the month's Monday-to-Friday days less the dates in this calculator's data: the 14 holidays that are compulsory for Central Government administrative offices and Dr. Ambedkar Jayanti. For a project or contract timeline with a Central Government office, add the three further days that apply to that office under Advanced options. Bank holidays are not this list: the Reserve Bank of India's holiday page marks each holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act separately for each of its regional offices, so for a count that follows a bank, read that office's list.

How August 2027 is shaped
The headline count answers how many working days August 2027 contains. It does not answer where they sit, and for anything measured in consecutive days rather than cumulative days that second question is the binding one. What follows is derived entirely from the Indian Central Government holiday calendar and a working week that treats Saturday and Sunday as the weekend, with no assumption about how any particular obligation behaves.
The middle month of the third quarter
August runs 31 days and sits in the middle of Q3, so it opens and closes nothing: no quarter, no half, no year. That makes it the month whose working-day count is least likely to be checked and most likely to be assumed. In a common year August shares its weekday alignment with February and March, which is the widest such group in the calendar.
In August 2027 that comes to 22 working days across 31 calendar days, against 22 in July 2027 and 22 in September 2027.
The month opens across a weekend
The 1st of August is a Sunday, a weekend day under the Indian Central Government calendar, whose week runs against a Saturday and Sunday weekend. Nothing that settles on working days moves on it. A month that opens this way loses its first working day to the calendar before any holiday is counted, and monthly cycles keyed to the 1st all resolve forward to the same date, which concentrates them.
The month's first working day is Monday, August 2, and August 2027 carries 22 working days in total.
Five working stretches
August splits into five working stretches. That is the ordinary shape of a month whose only interruptions are its weekends, and it means the month's internal boundaries are all predictable a year in advance: nothing here depends on a holiday date moving.
The working days of August 2027 arrive in stretches of 5, 5, 5, 5, and 2 days. The longest unbroken stretch runs five days, from August 2 to August 6. A task needing more consecutive working days than that cannot be completed inside a single stretch, whatever the month's total looks like.
The month is front-loaded. It opens with five consecutive days and closes with two, so capacity thins toward the end. Work deferred out of the first stretch arrives in a shorter one, which is how a schedule that looked comfortable in week one stops fitting.
Three weekdays occur five times
A 31-day month contains four full seven-day cycles and three days over, so exactly three weekdays occur five times and the other four occur four times. In August 2027 the three are Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. Which three it is follows entirely from the weekday the month opens on, which is why the working-day count of a 31-day month moves year to year even when its holidays do not.
Only Monday and Tuesday among them are working days, so part of the surplus is absorbed by the Saturday and Sunday weekend and never reaches the working total. That split is why two months of the same length can carry different working-day counts without any holiday being involved.
Every holiday this month falls on the weekend
August 2027 does contain an Indian Central Government holiday, but it lands on the weekend (Saturday and Sunday under this calendar): Independence Day / Milad-un-Nabi on Sunday, August 15. A holiday costs a working day only when it displaces one, so a weekend-falling holiday leaves the month's count untouched.
Whether the day off is recovered on an adjacent weekday depends on the substitution rule of the jurisdiction, which varies and is not assumed here. This calculator counts only the dates its holiday data publishes, and for August 2027 that data lists no Indian Central Government closure on a working day. Where a substitute weekday is granted, the data set carries it as a separate entry with its own date.
A long stretch with no closure at all
August 2027 sits inside an unusually long run without an Indian Central Government closure. Neither the month itself nor either edge of it carries one within a month, which means the working-day count here is set by the weekend pattern alone and will repeat exactly in any year with the same alignment.
Looking outside the month, the last was Muharram on June 16, 2027, 46 calendar days before August began and the next is Diwali on October 29, 2027, 59 calendar days after it ends.
Across the whole of 2027 the Indian Central Government calendar puts nine closures on working days, of which none falls in August. That ratio, rather than the raw count, is what tells you whether a month is carrying more than its share of the year's downtime.
An early-week close
August runs out after the second working day of its last week. Most of that week belongs to the next month, so the tail of August 2027 is unusually thin: two working days carry whatever the month-end process needs, and the week's remaining capacity is not available to this period.
The last working day of August 2027 is Tuesday, August 31. Counting back from there, the third-to-last is Friday, August 27, four calendar days before the month closes.
The middle month of the quarter
August is the middle month of Q3. Middle months carry the least visibility in a quarterly cycle: the opening month sets expectations and the closing month is where they are settled, so a shortfall here is the one most likely to be noticed late.
Across the whole quarter there are 66 working days, of which 22 fall in August. The other two months carry July 2027 with 22 and September 2027 with 22. All three months of the quarter carry the same working-day count, which happens when their weekday alignments and closures cancel out exactly.
The middle of the working week is the scarcest
The third working day of the week is the one August gives least often. Mid-week scarcity is the easiest kind to absorb, because work pinned to the middle of a week can usually move a day in either direction without crossing a weekend.
Counted as worked rather than as occurring, August 2027 gives Monday 5, Tuesday 5, Wednesday 4, Thursday 4, and Friday 4. A weekly commitment pinned to a particular weekday fires that many times in the month, which is the number a rota needs and not the one the calendar shows.
Toward the long end of the year
August sits among the longer working months of 2027 under the Indian Central Government calendar. Where a month falls in that ranking is decided by two independent things, its calendar length and how many closures land on its working days, so a month can move several places between adjacent years without its length changing at all.
2027 carries 252 working days in total under the Indian Central Government calendar. The longest month of the year is December 2027 with 23 and the shortest is May 2027 with 19, a spread of 4. August ranks 3rd of the twelve with 22.
Inside the year's longest clear run
August 2027 sits inside the longest stretch of 2027 with no Indian Central Government closure in it. Where a month falls relative to its country's closure clusters changes what the same working-day count is worth: an uninterrupted month inside a long clear run behaves differently from one of equal length wedged between two closures.
Across 2027 the Indian Central Government closures fall 3 in Q1, 5 in Q2, 0 in Q3, and 1 in Q4. A further five holidays land on the Saturday and Sunday weekend and cost no working day at all, which is why a country's holiday count and its working-day loss are different numbers.
The longest uninterrupted run in the 2027 calendar sits between June 16, 2027 and October 29, 2027, 135 calendar days with no Indian Central Government closure in between. Stretches like that are where multi-week work belongs, and they move from year to year whenever a movable holiday does.
Where the month sits in the year's closure pattern
Closures are not spread evenly across a calendar year. They cluster around fixed anniversaries and around whichever lunar or movable feasts a jurisdiction observes, so two adjacent months can carry very different loads, and the Indian Central Government calendar is no exception.
2027 opens its Indian Central Government closures with Republic Day on January 26, 2027 and ends them with Diwali on October 29, 2027. The densest month of the year is March 2027 with two closures on working days.
A materially longer month than last year
August 2027 carries 2 more working days than August 2026 did (22 against 20). A swing of two or more days in the same month between adjacent years is large: it means the weekday alignment moved and a closure changed position, not just one of the two. Any run-rate carried forward from last year understates this month.
August opens 2026 on a Saturday, 2027 on a Sunday, and 2028 on a Tuesday. That movement, one weekday in a common year and two after a leap day, is what makes the three counts differ. The count of closures on working days differs between the two years as well, so alignment is not the only thing moving. Looking ahead, August 2028 carries 21 working days.
Where the month's anchor dates fall
Two of the common monthly anchor dates in August 2027 land outside the working week or on a closure. The table below resolves each one against the Indian Central Government calendar, together with the first working day on or after it.
| Date | Weekday | Status under the Indian Central Government calendar | First working day on or after |
|---|---|---|---|
| August 1 | Sunday | Weekend | August 2, 2027 |
| August 5 | Thursday | Working day | August 5 |
| August 10 | Tuesday | Working day | August 10 |
| August 15 | Sunday | Closed: Independence Day / Milad-un-Nabi | August 16, 2027 |
| August 20 | Friday | Working day | August 20 |
| August 25 | Wednesday | Working day | August 25 |
| August 31 | Tuesday | Working day | August 31 |
The final column is arithmetic, not a legal conclusion. Whether an obligation actually moves when its date is not a working day depends on the instrument that sets it, and this site does not assume a shift rule for any jurisdiction. Where a rule is known it is stated in the holiday data methodology and on the country page it applies to.
Net terms dated in August 2027
An invoice dated the 1st of August on calendar-day Net 30 terms comes due on August 31, 2027, a working day under the Indian Central Government calendar. Terms counted in calendar days move independently of the working week, so the same term written on two consecutive months can settle cleanly in one and roll across a closure in the other.
| Invoice date | Net 30, calendar days | Net 60, calendar days |
|---|---|---|
| Dated August 1 | August 31, 2027 | September 30, 2027 |
| Dated August 15 | September 14, 2027 | October 14, 2027 |
| Dated August 31 | September 30, 2027 | October 30, 2027 (rolls to November 1, 2027) |
Net 30 and Net 60 are commercial conventions rather than statutory periods, and both are counted here in calendar days, which is how they are almost always written. Where a contract counts in working days instead, use the between-dates calculator with the India calendar selected, because the two produce different dates whenever a closure falls inside the term.
