federal holidays in August 2027
No US federal holidays fall on a weekday in August 2027, so the month loses no working day to a holiday on this calendar.
United States August deadlines
August is one of only three months that carry no federal holiday at all, alongside March and April, so the count runs from the first weekday to the last without interruption. No federal filing date for calendar-year filers falls in August either; the next one is September 15. Finance teams tend to use the gap for system work and audit preparation rather than for filing.

United States reporting cycles and business-day rules
Periods under the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure are not counted in business days. Rule 6(a)(1) excludes the day of the event that triggers the period and counts every day after it, including intermediate Saturdays, Sundays and legal holidays; when the last day is a Saturday, Sunday or legal holiday, the period runs to the end of the next day that is none of those. Before the 2009 amendment the rule left intermediate Saturdays, Sundays and legal holidays out of periods shorter than 11 days, and that exclusion no longer applies. When a holiday falls on a Saturday, this calculator leaves out the Friday before it, which 5 U.S.C. 6103(b) makes the holiday for federal employees on a Monday-to-Friday workweek; the Federal Reserve Banks stay open that Friday. Estimated tax payments of a corporation are due on the 15th day of the 4th, 6th, 9th and 12th months of its tax year, which for a calendar-year corporation is April 15, June 15, September 15 and December 15. IRS Publication 509 states the general rule that an act due on a Saturday, Sunday or legal holiday is timely on the next day that is none of those, and by legal holiday it means any legal holiday in the District of Columbia.

How August 2027 compares year over year
August 2026 had 21 business days, so August 2027 has 1 more working day year over year. On the surrounding months, July 2027 has 21 business days and September 2027 has 21. Looking forward, August 2028 has 23 business days under the same US federal holiday calendar.
Using this calculator in United States
The 22 business days in August 2027 are the count to use for invoice due dates, contract deadlines and SLA windows stated in business days. Federal contracts under the FAR count in calendar days, because FAR 2.101 defines a day as a calendar day unless otherwise specified. For an invoice payment, FAR 32.904(b)(1) sets the due date at the later of the 30th day after the designated billing office receives a proper invoice and the 30th day after government acceptance of the supplies or services. Paragraphs (c) through (f) of the same section set other dates for architect-engineer, construction, cost-reimbursement service and food contracts.

How August 2027 is shaped
The headline count answers how many business days August 2027 contains. It does not answer where they sit, and for anything measured in consecutive days rather than cumulative days that second question is the binding one. What follows is derived entirely from the US federal holiday calendar and a working week that treats Saturday and Sunday as the weekend, with no assumption about how any particular obligation behaves.
The middle month of the third quarter
August runs 31 days and sits in the middle of Q3, so it opens and closes nothing: no quarter, no half, no year. That makes it the month whose working-day count is least likely to be checked and most likely to be assumed. In a common year August shares its weekday alignment with February and March, which is the widest such group in the calendar.
In August 2027 that comes to 22 business days across 31 calendar days, against 21 in July 2027 and 21 in September 2027.
The month opens across a weekend
The 1st of August is a Sunday, a weekend day under the US federal calendar, whose week runs against a Saturday and Sunday weekend. Nothing that settles on working days moves on it. A month that opens this way loses its first working day to the calendar before any holiday is counted, and monthly cycles keyed to the 1st all resolve forward to the same date, which concentrates them.
The month's first working day is Monday, August 2, and August 2027 carries 22 business days in total.
Five working stretches
August splits into five working stretches. That is the ordinary shape of a month whose only interruptions are its weekends, and it means the month's internal boundaries are all predictable a year in advance: nothing here depends on a holiday date moving.
The working days of August 2027 arrive in stretches of 5, 5, 5, 5, and 2 days. The longest unbroken stretch runs five days, from August 2 to August 6. A task needing more consecutive business days than that cannot be completed inside a single stretch, whatever the month's total looks like.
The month is front-loaded. It opens with five consecutive days and closes with two, so capacity thins toward the end. Work deferred out of the first stretch arrives in a shorter one, which is how a schedule that looked comfortable in week one stops fitting.
Three weekdays occur five times
A 31-day month contains four full seven-day cycles and three days over, so exactly three weekdays occur five times and the other four occur four times. In August 2027 the three are Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. Which three it is follows entirely from the weekday the month opens on, which is why the working-day count of a 31-day month moves year to year even when its holidays do not.
Only Monday and Tuesday among them are working days, so part of the surplus is absorbed by the Saturday and Sunday weekend and never reaches the working total. That split is why two months of the same length can carry different working-day counts without any holiday being involved.
A month with no closures, and a long one
August 2027 contains no US federal holiday on any date, working or otherwise. A month with no closure loses working days only to weekends, so its count is set entirely by the weekday it opens on and its length, and here both work in the month's favour: 22 business days across 31 calendar days.
Months at this end of the range are the ones worth reserving for work that needs consecutive days rather than cumulative days. The constraint that usually breaks a long run, a closure landing mid-week, is absent, so the month's structure is entirely weekend-driven and repeats on a seven-day cycle.
A closure sits just outside the month
August 2027 contains no US federal closure of its own, but one sits within a week of its edge. A closure just outside a month still reaches into it: work displaced from the closed day lands on the working days beside it, and those are inside August whichever side the holiday falls on.
Looking outside the month, the last was Independence Day (observed) on July 5, 2027, 27 calendar days before August began and the next is Labor Day on September 6, 2027, 6 calendar days after it ends.
Across the whole of 2027 the US federal calendar puts 12 closures on working days, of which none falls in August. That ratio, rather than the raw count, is what tells you whether a month is carrying more than its share of the year's downtime.
An early-week close
August runs out after the second working day of its last week. Most of that week belongs to the next month, so the tail of August 2027 is unusually thin: two working days carry whatever the month-end process needs, and the week's remaining capacity is not available to this period.
The last working day of August 2027 is Tuesday, August 31. Counting back from there, the third-to-last is Friday, August 27, four calendar days before the month closes.
The middle month of the quarter
August is the middle month of Q3. Middle months carry the least visibility in a quarterly cycle: the opening month sets expectations and the closing month is where they are settled, so a shortfall here is the one most likely to be noticed late.
Across the whole quarter there are 64 business days, of which 22 fall in August. The other two months carry July 2027 with 21 and September 2027 with 21. It is the largest of the three, so work deferred out of August lands in a month with less room than this one had.
The middle of the working week is the scarcest
The third working day of the week is the one August gives least often. Mid-week scarcity is the easiest kind to absorb, because work pinned to the middle of a week can usually move a day in either direction without crossing a weekend.
Counted as worked rather than as occurring, August 2027 gives Monday 5, Tuesday 5, Wednesday 4, Thursday 4, and Friday 4. A weekly commitment pinned to a particular weekday fires that many times in the month, which is the number a rota needs and not the one the calendar shows.
Toward the long end of the year
August sits among the longer working months of 2027 under the US federal calendar. Where a month falls in that ranking is decided by two independent things, its calendar length and how many closures land on its working days, so a month can move several places between adjacent years without its length changing at all.
2027 carries 249 business days in total under the US federal calendar. The longest month of the year is March 2027 with 23 and the shortest is February 2027 with 19, a spread of 4. August ranks 3rd of the twelve with 22.
United States closures across the year
A month's working-day count only means something against the country's whole calendar. Two countries that share a weekend and happen to have the same closure-free month can still run very different years, and United States is placed as follows.
Across 2027 the US federal closures fall 3 in Q1, 2 in Q2, 2 in Q3, and 5 in Q4. Every holiday in the US federal data for 2027 falls on a working day, so the country's holiday count and its working-day loss are the same number this year, which is not usually the case.
The longest uninterrupted run in the 2027 calendar sits between February 15, 2027 and May 31, 2027, 105 calendar days with no US federal closure in between. Stretches like that are where multi-week work belongs, and they move from year to year whenever a movable holiday does.
Where the month sits in the year's closure pattern
Closures are not spread evenly across a calendar year. They cluster around fixed anniversaries and around whichever lunar or movable feasts a jurisdiction observes, so two adjacent months can carry very different loads, and the US federal calendar is no exception.
2027 opens its US federal closures with New Year's Day on January 1, 2027 and ends them with New Year's Day 2028 (observed) on December 31, 2027. The densest month of the year is January 2027 with two closures on working days.
One working day more than last year
There is one more business day in August 2027 than in August 2026: 22 against 21. A single-day swing is the ordinary case, produced by the calendar shifting forward one weekday between consecutive common years, and it is large enough to matter to a monthly target and small enough to be missed.
August opens 2026 on a Saturday, 2027 on a Sunday, and 2028 on a Tuesday. That movement, one weekday in a common year and two after a leap day, is what makes the three counts differ. The number of closures on working days is the same in both years, so the whole of any difference comes from weekday alignment. Looking ahead, August 2028 carries 23 business days.
Where the month's anchor dates fall
Two of the common monthly anchor dates in August 2027 land outside the working week or on a closure. The table below resolves each one against the US federal calendar, together with the first working day on or after it.
| Date | Weekday | Status under the US federal calendar | First working day on or after |
|---|---|---|---|
| August 1 | Sunday | Weekend | August 2, 2027 |
| August 5 | Thursday | Working day | August 5 |
| August 10 | Tuesday | Working day | August 10 |
| August 15 | Sunday | Weekend | August 16, 2027 |
| August 20 | Friday | Working day | August 20 |
| August 25 | Wednesday | Working day | August 25 |
| August 31 | Tuesday | Working day | August 31 |
The final column is arithmetic, not a legal conclusion. Whether an obligation actually moves when its date is not a working day depends on the instrument that sets it, and this site does not assume a shift rule for any jurisdiction. Where a rule is known it is stated in the holiday data methodology and on the country page it applies to.
Net terms dated in August 2027
An invoice dated the 1st of August on calendar-day Net 30 terms comes due on August 31, 2027, a working day under the US federal calendar. Terms counted in calendar days move independently of the working week, so the same term written on two consecutive months can settle cleanly in one and roll across a closure in the other.
| Invoice date | Net 30, calendar days | Net 60, calendar days |
|---|---|---|
| Dated August 1 | August 31, 2027 | September 30, 2027 |
| Dated August 15 | September 14, 2027 | October 14, 2027 |
| Dated August 31 | September 30, 2027 | October 30, 2027 (rolls to November 1, 2027) |
Net 30 and Net 60 are commercial conventions rather than statutory periods, and both are counted here in calendar days, which is how they are almost always written. Where a contract counts in working days instead, use the between-dates calculator with the United States calendar selected, because the two produce different dates whenever a closure falls inside the term.
