United Kingdom August deadlines
The last Monday in August is a bank holiday in England and Wales under Schedule 1 to the Banking and Financial Dealings Act 1971, and the only one gov.uk lists there in the month; for Scotland the Schedule names the first Monday in August instead. An employer who pays monthly owes the PAYE bill for the tax month ending August 5 by August 22, or by the 19th if it is paid by cheque through the post. The Bank of England lists no Monetary Policy Committee announcement in August 2027: its dates run from Thursday 29 July to Thursday 16 September, and each is listed with the Committee's summary and minutes.

Those dates in 2027
One of the dates named above does not fall on a working day in 2027 under the England and Wales bank calendar. A fixed calendar date advances through the week year by year, so this resolution holds for 2027 only.

United Kingdom reporting cycles and business-day rules
HMRC's guidance gives PAYE two separate dates. An employer sends the Full Payment Submission on or before its employees' payday, even if it pays HMRC quarterly instead of monthly, with the exceptions HMRC lists for sending one after payday. An employer that pays monthly pays its PAYE bill by the 22nd of the next tax month, and a cheque sent through the post must reach HMRC by the 19th. A tax month starts on the 6th. The Bank of England describes the CHAPS system as usually open from 6am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, excluding bank or public holidays in England and Wales, and says customer payments must be submitted by 5.40pm. Section 442 of the Companies Act 2006 gives a private company nine months after the end of the relevant accounting reference period to file its accounts, with other periods for a first accounting reference period of more than twelve months and for a shortened one. Section 443 counts that period in months: it ends with the date in the ninth following month that corresponds to the last day of the reference period, or with the last day of that month where the reference period ends on the last day of a month.

How August 2027 compares year over year
August 2026 had 20 working days, so August 2027 has 1 more working day year over year. On the surrounding months, July 2027 has 22 working days and September 2027 has 22. Looking forward, August 2028 has 22 working days under the same England and Wales bank holiday calendar.
Using this calculator in United Kingdom
With the bank holidays of England and Wales left out, August 2027 has 21 working days from Monday to Friday. Where your contract counts a period in business days, the UK calculator on this site counts it with the bank holidays of England and Wales. Court time limits under the Civil Procedure Rules are a separate matter. Rule 2.8 computes a period expressed as a number of days as clear days, which leaves out the day on which the period begins and, if the end of the period is defined by reference to an event, the day of that event. Where the specified period is 5 days or less, a Saturday, Sunday, Bank Holiday, Christmas Day or Good Friday in it does not count. For VAT, HMRC gives the deadline for submitting a return online, which is also the deadline for paying, as usually one calendar month and 7 days after the end of an accounting period, and says the return and the payment must reach it on or before the deadline even if it is on a weekend or bank holiday.

How August 2027 is shaped
The headline count answers how many working days August 2027 contains. It does not answer where they sit, and for anything measured in consecutive days rather than cumulative days that second question is the binding one. What follows is derived entirely from the England and Wales bank holiday calendar and a working week that treats Saturday and Sunday as the weekend, with no assumption about how any particular obligation behaves.
The middle month of the third quarter
August runs 31 days and sits in the middle of Q3, so it opens and closes nothing: no quarter, no half, no year. That makes it the month whose working-day count is least likely to be checked and most likely to be assumed. In a common year August shares its weekday alignment with February and March, which is the widest such group in the calendar.
In August 2027 that comes to 21 working days across 31 calendar days, against 22 in July 2027 and 22 in September 2027.
The month opens across a weekend
The 1st of August is a Sunday, a weekend day under the England and Wales bank calendar, whose week runs against a Saturday and Sunday weekend. Nothing that settles on working days moves on it. A month that opens this way loses its first working day to the calendar before any holiday is counted, and monthly cycles keyed to the 1st all resolve forward to the same date, which concentrates them.
The month's first working day is Monday, August 2, and August 2027 carries 21 working days in total.
Five working stretches
August splits into five working stretches. That is the ordinary shape of a month whose only interruptions are its weekends, and it means the month's internal boundaries are all predictable a year in advance: nothing here depends on a holiday date moving.
The working days of August 2027 arrive in stretches of 5, 5, 5, 5, and 1 day. The longest unbroken stretch runs five days, from August 2 to August 6. A task needing more consecutive working days than that cannot be completed inside a single stretch, whatever the month's total looks like.
The month is front-loaded. It opens with five consecutive days and closes with one, so capacity thins toward the end. Work deferred out of the first stretch arrives in a shorter one, which is how a schedule that looked comfortable in week one stops fitting.
Three weekdays occur five times
A 31-day month contains four full seven-day cycles and three days over, so exactly three weekdays occur five times and the other four occur four times. In August 2027 the three are Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. Which three it is follows entirely from the weekday the month opens on, which is why the working-day count of a 31-day month moves year to year even when its holidays do not.
Only Monday and Tuesday among them are working days, so part of the surplus is absorbed by the Saturday and Sunday weekend and never reaches the working total. That split is why two months of the same length can carry different working-day counts without any holiday being involved.
One closure, and where it lands
August 2027 carries a single England and Wales bank closure on a working day: Summer Bank Holiday on Monday, August 30. A holiday's cost to a month is not only the day it removes; it is also where the removal falls, because the same closure can extend an existing break or cut a working stretch in half.
It sits directly beside a weekend rather than inside a working week, so it extends an existing break instead of creating a new one. That is the cheapest position a holiday can occupy: the month loses a day but keeps its shape.
20 working days pass before the closure and only 1 follow it. With the break past the midpoint, most of the month's capacity has already been spent when it arrives, so anything the closure displaces competes for a shrinking remainder.
The closures around this month
August 2027 carries one England and Wales bank closure of its own, and the months on either side add their own. Where a deadline sits close to a month boundary, the closure that moves it is as likely to be outside the month as inside it.
Looking outside the month, the last was Spring Bank Holiday on May 31, 2027, 62 calendar days before August began and the next is Christmas Day (observed) on December 27, 2027, 118 calendar days after it ends.
Across the whole of 2027 the England and Wales bank calendar puts eight closures on working days, of which one falls in August. That ratio, rather than the raw count, is what tells you whether a month is carrying more than its share of the year's downtime.
An early-week close
August runs out after the second working day of its last week. Most of that week belongs to the next month, so the tail of August 2027 is unusually thin: two working days carry whatever the month-end process needs, and the week's remaining capacity is not available to this period.
The last working day of August 2027 is Tuesday, August 31. Counting back from there, the third-to-last is Thursday, August 26, five calendar days before the month closes.
The middle month of the quarter
August is the middle month of Q3. Middle months carry the least visibility in a quarterly cycle: the opening month sets expectations and the closing month is where they are settled, so a shortfall here is the one most likely to be noticed late.
Across the whole quarter there are 65 working days, of which 21 fall in August. The other two months carry July 2027 with 22 and September 2027 with 22. It is the smallest of the three, so the quarter's capacity sits mostly in the other two months and a plan that spreads work evenly across the quarter will over-commit August.
The week's first working day is the scarcest
The first working day of the week is the one August gives least often. Anything anchored to the start of the working week (a weekly kickoff, a Monday-morning cutoff, a start-of-week batch) fires fewer times this month than the calendar count suggests, because a closure has taken one of them out.
Counted as worked rather than as occurring, August 2027 gives Monday 4, Tuesday 5, Wednesday 4, Thursday 4, and Friday 4. A weekly commitment pinned to a particular weekday fires that many times in the month, which is the number a rota needs and not the one the calendar shows.
Where the month sits in the year
August sits in the middle of 2027 by working-day count under the England and Wales bank calendar. The middle of that ranking is where a month's total is least informative on its own, because a mid-ranked month can be a long month carrying closures or a short one carrying none, and the two need different plans.
2027 carries 253 working days in total under the England and Wales bank calendar. The longest month of the year is April 2027 with 22 and the shortest is May 2027 with 19, a spread of 3. August ranks 7th of the twelve with 21.
United Kingdom closures across the year
A month's working-day count only means something against the country's whole calendar. Two countries that share a weekend and happen to have the same closure-free month can still run very different years, and United Kingdom is placed as follows.
Across 2027 the England and Wales bank closures fall 3 in Q1, 2 in Q2, 1 in Q3, and 2 in Q4. Every holiday in the England and Wales bank data for 2027 falls on a working day, so the country's holiday count and its working-day loss are the same number this year, which is not usually the case.
The longest uninterrupted run in the 2027 calendar sits between August 30, 2027 and December 27, 2027, 119 calendar days with no England and Wales bank closure in between. Stretches like that are where multi-week work belongs, and they move from year to year whenever a movable holiday does.
Where the month sits in the year's closure pattern
Closures are not spread evenly across a calendar year. They cluster around fixed anniversaries and around whichever lunar or movable feasts a jurisdiction observes, so two adjacent months can carry very different loads, and the England and Wales bank calendar is no exception.
2027 opens its England and Wales bank closures with New Year's Day on January 1, 2027 and ends them with Boxing Day (observed) on December 28, 2027. The densest month of the year is March 2027 with two closures on working days.
One working day more than last year
There is one more working day in August 2027 than in August 2026: 21 against 20. A single-day swing is the ordinary case, produced by the calendar shifting forward one weekday between consecutive common years, and it is large enough to matter to a monthly target and small enough to be missed.
August opens 2026 on a Saturday, 2027 on a Sunday, and 2028 on a Tuesday. That movement, one weekday in a common year and two after a leap day, is what makes the three counts differ. The number of closures on working days is the same in both years, so the whole of any difference comes from weekday alignment. Looking ahead, August 2028 carries 22 working days.
Where the month's anchor dates fall
Two of the common monthly anchor dates in August 2027 land outside the working week or on a closure. The table below resolves each one against the England and Wales bank calendar, together with the first working day on or after it.
| Date | Weekday | Status under the England and Wales bank calendar | First working day on or after |
|---|---|---|---|
| August 1 | Sunday | Weekend | August 2, 2027 |
| August 5 | Thursday | Working day | August 5 |
| August 10 | Tuesday | Working day | August 10 |
| August 15 | Sunday | Weekend | August 16, 2027 |
| August 20 | Friday | Working day | August 20 |
| August 25 | Wednesday | Working day | August 25 |
| August 31 | Tuesday | Working day | August 31 |
The final column is arithmetic, not a legal conclusion. Whether an obligation actually moves when its date is not a working day depends on the instrument that sets it, and this site does not assume a shift rule for any jurisdiction. Where a rule is known it is stated in the holiday data methodology and on the country page it applies to.
Net terms dated in August 2027
An invoice dated the 1st of August on calendar-day Net 30 terms comes due on August 31, 2027, a working day under the England and Wales bank calendar. Terms counted in calendar days move independently of the working week, so the same term written on two consecutive months can settle cleanly in one and roll across a closure in the other.
| Invoice date | Net 30, calendar days | Net 60, calendar days |
|---|---|---|
| Dated August 1 | August 31, 2027 | September 30, 2027 |
| Dated August 15 | September 14, 2027 | October 14, 2027 |
| Dated August 31 | September 30, 2027 | October 30, 2027 (rolls to November 1, 2027) |
Net 30 and Net 60 are commercial conventions rather than statutory periods, and both are counted here in calendar days, which is how they are almost always written. Where a contract counts in working days instead, use the between-dates calculator with the United Kingdom calendar selected, because the two produce different dates whenever a closure falls inside the term.
