public holidays in January 2027
No Saudi public holidays fall on a weekday in January 2027, so the month loses no working day to a holiday on this calendar.
Saudi Arabia January deadlines
This calculator's data lists no Saudi holiday in January in any year it covers: Article 24 of the Implementing Regulations of the Labour Law sets four paid occasions, the two Eids, National Day and Founding Day on 22 February, and none of them reaches January there. A VAT return for a tax period that ended in December is filed, and the tax paid, by the last day of January. That is December for a monthly filer and the three months to December for a taxpayer on the standard three-month period that closed with it. A person obliged to withhold tax submits the monthly withholding statement and pays the amount withheld within the first 10 days of the month after the month of payment, as ZATCA's withholding tax guideline of May 2026 puts it. January 31, 2027 is a Sunday, a working day on the Saudi week.

Those dates in 2027
Every date named above falls on a working day in 2027 under the Saudi public calendar. That is worth checking rather than assuming: the same calendar date moves through the week from year to year, so a date that settles cleanly this year may not next year.

Saudi Arabia reporting cycles and business-day rules
A VAT return is filed, and the tax paid, by the last day of the month after each tax period, and ZATCA's Implementing Regulations of the VAT Law keep that date whether or not it is a working day; a Working Day, as they define it, is any day except Friday, Saturday and a state holiday. The period is monthly for a taxpayer whose taxable supplies exceeded SAR 40 million in the previous twelve months; three months is the standard period for all others, who may apply for a monthly one. A Zakat payer that keeps accounting books submits the Zakat return, and pays the Zakat, within 120 days of the end of the Zakat year, and a period that ends on an official holiday runs to the first working day after it (Implementing Regulations for Zakat Collection, article 102). The income-tax return is due within 120 days of the end of the tax year under article 60 of the Income Tax Law, as ZATCA quotes it. The royal order of 23 June 2013 made Friday and Saturday the weekly holiday in all ministries, government bodies and institutions, financial institutions, the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency, the Capital Market Authority and the Saudi Stock Exchange.

How January 2027 compares year over year
January 2026 also had 21 working days, so the working capacity is unchanged year over year. On the surrounding months, December 2026 has 23 working days and February 2027 has 19. Looking forward, January 2028 has 21 working days under the same Saudi public holiday calendar.
Using this calculator in Saudi Arabia
Count the 21 business days of January 2027 on the Sunday-to-Thursday week. A royal order of 23 June 2013, as the Saudi Press Agency reported it, made those the official working days in all ministries, government bodies and institutions, financial institutions, the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency, the Capital Market Authority and the Saudi Stock Exchange. Tax dates are not counted in business days: a VAT return is filed, and the tax paid, by the last day of the month after the tax period, whether or not that date is a working day, while the 120 days for the Zakat return, if they end on an official holiday, run on to the first working day after it.

How January 2027 is shaped
The headline count answers how many working days January 2027 contains. It does not answer where they sit, and for anything measured in consecutive days rather than cumulative days that second question is the binding one. What follows is derived entirely from the Saudi public holiday calendar and a working week that treats Friday and Saturday as the weekend, with no assumption about how any particular obligation behaves.
The month that opens the year and the quarter together
January is one of only four months that begins a quarter, and the only one that begins a calendar year at the same time. Its 31 days are the joint longest, and its first day is the single date on which the largest number of annual cycles reset at once. That concentration is the reason a January working-day count is worth checking rather than assuming: every cycle that starts here inherits whatever the month's alignment gives it.
In January 2027 that comes to 21 working days across 31 calendar days, against 23 in December 2026 and 19 in February 2027.
The month opens across a weekend
The 1st of January is a Friday, a weekend day under the Saudi public calendar, whose week runs against a Friday and Saturday weekend. Nothing that settles on working days moves on it. A month that opens this way loses its first working day to the calendar before any holiday is counted, and monthly cycles keyed to the 1st all resolve forward to the same date, which concentrates them.
The month's first working day is Sunday, January 3, and January 2027 carries 21 working days in total.
Five working stretches
January splits into five working stretches. That is the ordinary shape of a month whose only interruptions are its weekends, and it means the month's internal boundaries are all predictable a year in advance: nothing here depends on a holiday date moving.
The working days of January 2027 arrive in stretches of 5, 5, 5, 5, and 1 day. The longest unbroken stretch runs five days, from January 3 to January 7. A task needing more consecutive working days than that cannot be completed inside a single stretch, whatever the month's total looks like.
The month is front-loaded. It opens with five consecutive days and closes with one, so capacity thins toward the end. Work deferred out of the first stretch arrives in a shorter one, which is how a schedule that looked comfortable in week one stops fitting.
Three weekdays occur five times
A 31-day month contains four full seven-day cycles and three days over, so exactly three weekdays occur five times and the other four occur four times. In January 2027 the three are Sunday, Friday, and Saturday. Which three it is follows entirely from the weekday the month opens on, which is why the working-day count of a 31-day month moves year to year even when its holidays do not.
Only Sunday among them is a working day, so part of the surplus is absorbed by the Friday and Saturday weekend and never reaches the working total. That split is why two months of the same length can carry different working-day counts without any holiday being involved.
A month with no closures
There is no Saudi public holiday in January 2027 at all. Because a month with no closure loses working days only to weekends, the count follows directly from the calendar: 31 days, 10 of them on the Friday and Saturday weekend, leaving 21 working days.
That makes January an unusually predictable month to plan against. Its working structure will be the same shape in any year that opens on the same weekday, and no holiday date can move it.
The closures on either side of the month
Nothing closes inside January 2027 under the Saudi public calendar, so the useful question is what sits on either side of it. Adjacent closures matter to a monthly plan because deadlines that fall near a month boundary are usually satisfied on the other side of it.
Looking outside the month, the last was Saudi National Day on September 23, 2026, 100 calendar days before January began and the next is Founding Day on February 22, 2027, 22 calendar days after it ends.
Across the whole of 2027 the Saudi public calendar puts eight closures on working days, of which none falls in January. That ratio, rather than the raw count, is what tells you whether a month is carrying more than its share of the year's downtime.
The month ends where a week begins
The final calendar day of January 2027 is the first working day of a week. A single working day of that week belongs to January and the rest to the month following, which is the least amount of closing capacity a month can have. Anything that must be done "in the last week" of January really has to be done before the preceding weekend.
The last working day of January 2027 is Sunday, January 31. Counting back from there, the third-to-last is Wednesday, January 27, four calendar days before the month closes.
The quarter opens here
January is the first month of Q1. An opening month sets the baseline the rest of the quarter is measured against, and it is the one month where a slip has two further months to be absorbed in. Quarterly targets divided evenly by three ignore the fact that the three months rarely carry equal working-day counts.
Across the whole quarter there are 60 working days, of which 21 fall in January. The other two months carry February 2027 with 19 and March 2027 with 20. It is the largest of the three, so work deferred out of January lands in a month with less room than this one had.
The week's second working day is the scarcest
The second working day of the week is the one January gives least often. Weekly cycles that run one day behind the start of the week, which is where most reporting handovers sit, lose an occurrence relative to the rest.
Counted as worked rather than as occurring, January 2027 gives Sunday 5, Monday 4, Tuesday 4, Wednesday 4, and Thursday 4. A weekly commitment pinned to a particular weekday fires that many times in the month, which is the number a rota needs and not the one the calendar shows.
Where the month sits in the year
January sits in the middle of 2027 by working-day count under the Saudi public calendar. The middle of that ranking is where a month's total is least informative on its own, because a mid-ranked month can be a long month carrying closures or a short one carrying none, and the two need different plans.
2027 carries 252 working days in total under the Saudi public calendar. The longest month of the year is August 2027 with 23 and the shortest is May 2027 with 19, a spread of 4. January ranks 5th of the twelve with 21.
Saudi Arabia closures across the year
A month's working-day count only means something against the country's whole calendar. Two countries that share a weekend and happen to have the same closure-free month can still run very different years, and Saudi Arabia is placed as follows.
Across 2027 the Saudi public closures fall 4 in Q1, 3 in Q2, 1 in Q3, and 0 in Q4. A further two holidays land on the Friday and Saturday weekend and cost no working day at all, which is why a country's holiday count and its working-day loss are different numbers.
The longest uninterrupted run in the 2027 calendar sits between May 18, 2027 and September 23, 2027, 128 calendar days with no Saudi public closure in between. Stretches like that are where multi-week work belongs, and they move from year to year whenever a movable holiday does.
Before the year's first closure
January 2027 falls before the first Saudi public closure of the year. Everything in the month is weekend arithmetic: the count cannot be reduced by a holiday because none has happened yet, so the working-day total here is the maximum the calendar allows for a month of this length and alignment.
2027 opens its Saudi public closures with Founding Day on February 22, 2027 and ends them with Saudi National Day on September 23, 2027. The densest month of the year is March 2027 with three closures on working days.
The same count as last year
January 2027 and January 2026 carry the same number of working days, 21 in each. An unchanged total does not mean an unchanged month: the working days sit on different dates and break into different stretches, so a schedule copied forward date by date will not line up even though the capacity has not moved.
January opens 2026 on a Thursday, 2027 on a Friday, and 2028 on a Saturday. That movement, one weekday in a common year and two after a leap day, is what makes the three counts differ. The number of closures on working days is the same in both years, so the whole of any difference comes from weekday alignment. Looking ahead, January 2028 carries 22 working days.
Where the month's anchor dates fall
Two of the common monthly anchor dates in January 2027 land outside the working week or on a closure. The table below resolves each one against the Saudi public calendar, together with the first working day on or after it.
| Date | Weekday | Status under the Saudi public calendar | First working day on or after |
|---|---|---|---|
| January 1 | Friday | Weekend | January 3, 2027 |
| January 5 | Tuesday | Working day | January 5 |
| January 10 | Sunday | Working day | January 10 |
| January 15 | Friday | Weekend | January 17, 2027 |
| January 20 | Wednesday | Working day | January 20 |
| January 25 | Monday | Working day | January 25 |
| January 31 | Sunday | Working day | January 31 |
The final column is arithmetic, not a legal conclusion. Whether an obligation actually moves when its date is not a working day depends on the instrument that sets it, and this site does not assume a shift rule for any jurisdiction. Where a rule is known it is stated in the holiday data methodology and on the country page it applies to.
Net terms dated in January 2027
An invoice dated the 1st of January on calendar-day Net 30 terms comes due on January 31, 2027, a working day under the Saudi public calendar. Terms counted in calendar days move independently of the working week, so the same term written on two consecutive months can settle cleanly in one and roll across a closure in the other.
| Invoice date | Net 30, calendar days | Net 60, calendar days |
|---|---|---|
| Dated January 1 | January 31, 2027 | March 2, 2027 |
| Dated January 15 | February 14, 2027 | March 16, 2027 |
| Dated January 31 | March 2, 2027 | April 1, 2027 |
Net 30 and Net 60 are commercial conventions rather than statutory periods, and both are counted here in calendar days, which is how they are almost always written. Where a contract counts in working days instead, use the between-dates calculator with the Saudi Arabia calendar selected, because the two produce different dates whenever a closure falls inside the term.
