public holidays in January 2027

Fri, Jan 1New Year's Day

Singapore January deadlines

CPF contributions for December are due on 31 December, and the CPF Board takes enforcement action against an employer that has not paid them by January 14, or by the next working day when the 14th is a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday. A GST-registered business whose accounting quarter ends in December files and pays GST by January 31, one month after the period ends. New Year's Day is a public holiday. In 2027 New Year's Day is a Friday, and the Ministry of Manpower lists Chinese New Year in February, so it is January's only public holiday.

Those dates in 2027

One of the dates named above does not fall on a working day in 2027 under the Singapore calendar. A fixed calendar date advances through the week year by year, so this resolution holds for 2027 only.

Singapore reporting cycles and business-day rules

This calculator counts Monday to Friday and leaves out the 11 public holidays the Ministry of Manpower lists. When one falls on a Sunday, section 4(2) of the Holidays Act 1998 makes the next day that is not itself a public holiday a public holiday too, and the calculator leaves that day out as well. A holiday on a Saturday adds no public holiday under the Act, although MOM says an employee whose Saturday is a non-working day should get either a day off or salary in lieu; the calculator adds no day for it. The CPF Board's enforcement date, the 14th of the month after contributions fall due, moves to the next working day when it is a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday.

January 2027 working days compared by country

Working-day counts vary across countries because each country observes its own public holidays. The table below shows January 2027 under 11 of the site's 25 holiday calendars; the summary above gives Singapore's own count.

How January 2027 compares year over year

January 2026 had 21 working days, so January 2027 has 1 fewer working day year over year. On the surrounding months, December 2026 has 22 working days and February 2027 has 19. Looking forward, January 2028 has 19 working days under the same Singapore holiday calendar.

Using this calculator in Singapore

Count the 20 business days of January 2027 when a CPF or IRAS date is near. CPF contributions for a month are due on its last day, and the CPF Board takes enforcement action against an employer that has not paid them by the 14th of the following month, or by the next working day when the 14th is a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday. A GST return and its payment are due one month after the end of the accounting period, and a company files its estimated chargeable income within three months of its financial year end, unless one of IRAS's exceptions applies.

How January 2027 is shaped

The headline count answers how many working days January 2027 contains. It does not answer where they sit, and for anything measured in consecutive days rather than cumulative days that second question is the binding one. What follows is derived entirely from the Singapore holiday calendar and a working week that treats Saturday and Sunday as the weekend, with no assumption about how any particular obligation behaves.

The month that opens the year and the quarter together

January is one of only four months that begins a quarter, and the only one that begins a calendar year at the same time. Its 31 days are the joint longest, and its first day is the single date on which the largest number of annual cycles reset at once. That concentration is the reason a January working-day count is worth checking rather than assuming: every cycle that starts here inherits whatever the month's alignment gives it.

In January 2027 that comes to 20 working days across 31 calendar days, against 22 in December 2026 and 19 in February 2027.

The month opens on a closure

January 2027 begins on a public holiday. New Year's Day falls on the 1st, which is a Friday this year, so the calendar month and the working month start on different dates. Any obligation written as "the first of the month" and any obligation written as "the first working day" point at different days in January 2027, and a schedule that treats them as interchangeable is wrong by at least one day here.

The month's first working day is Monday, January 4, and January 2027 carries 20 working days in total.

How the working days break up

The working days of January 2027 fall into four separate stretches. The count of stretches matters more than it looks: a month's total is the sum of its runs, but a deliverable that needs consecutive days is limited by the longest single run, and the two numbers move independently.

The working days of January 2027 arrive in stretches of 5, 5, 5, and 5 days. The longest unbroken stretch runs five days, from January 4 to January 8. A task needing more consecutive working days than that cannot be completed inside a single stretch, whatever the month's total looks like.

The month is balanced end to end. Its opening and closing stretches are the same length, five days each, so work pushed from the start of January to its end finds the same amount of room it left behind. That symmetry is the exception rather than the rule.

Three weekdays occur five times

A 31-day month contains four full seven-day cycles and three days over, so exactly three weekdays occur five times and the other four occur four times. In January 2027 the three are Sunday, Friday, and Saturday. Which three it is follows entirely from the weekday the month opens on, which is why the working-day count of a 31-day month moves year to year even when its holidays do not.

Only Friday among them is a working day, so part of the surplus is absorbed by the Saturday and Sunday weekend and never reaches the working total. That split is why two months of the same length can carry different working-day counts without any holiday being involved.

One closure, and where it lands

January 2027 carries a single Singapore closure on a working day: New Year's Day on Friday, January 1. A holiday's cost to a month is not only the day it removes; it is also where the removal falls, because the same closure can extend an existing break or cut a working stretch in half.

It sits directly beside a weekend rather than inside a working week, so it extends an existing break instead of creating a new one. That is the cheapest position a holiday can occupy: the month loses a day but keeps its shape.

The closure arrives before any working day has passed, so January is interrupted before it has started and the whole of its 20 remaining working days sit after the break.

The closures around this month

January 2027 carries one Singapore closure of its own, and the months on either side add their own. Where a deadline sits close to a month boundary, the closure that moves it is as likely to be outside the month as inside it.

Looking outside the month, the last was Christmas Day on December 25, 2026, 7 calendar days before January began and the next is Chinese New Year Day 2 (observed) on February 8, 2027, 8 calendar days after it ends.

Across the whole of 2027 the Singapore calendar puts eight closures on working days, of which one falls in January. That ratio, rather than the raw count, is what tells you whether a month is carrying more than its share of the year's downtime.

The month ends over a weekend

January 2027 ends on a Sunday, which this calendar treats as weekend. Month-end processing cannot happen on the last calendar day, so it happens earlier and the last few dates of the month carry no settlement at all. The distance between the final working day and the final calendar day is where month-end reconciliations go missing.

The last working day of January 2027 is Friday, January 29. Counting back from there, the third-to-last is Wednesday, January 27, four calendar days before the month closes.

The working month ends on the last working day of a week, so the final stretch is a complete one and nothing is left hanging mid-week. Two calendar days of January follow it with nothing settling on them.

The quarter opens here

January is the first month of Q1. An opening month sets the baseline the rest of the quarter is measured against, and it is the one month where a slip has two further months to be absorbed in. Quarterly targets divided evenly by three ignore the fact that the three months rarely carry equal working-day counts.

Across the whole quarter there are 60 working days, of which 20 fall in January. The other two months carry February 2027 with 19 and March 2027 with 21. It sits between the other two, which makes it the month where a quarterly plan is least likely to be thrown off by the calendar alone.

Every working weekday occurs the same number of times

January 2027 works each weekday of its week the same number of times. That is the flat case, and it is the only one where a weekly recurring commitment costs the same whichever weekday it is pinned to. It happens when the month's length and its closures happen to cancel, not because the month is regular: the calendar census above and this one can agree for quite different reasons.

Counted as worked rather than as occurring, January 2027 gives Monday 4, Tuesday 4, Wednesday 4, Thursday 4, and Friday 4. A weekly commitment pinned to a particular weekday fires that many times in the month, which is the number a rota needs and not the one the calendar shows.

Toward the short end of the year

January sits among the shorter working months of 2027 under the Singapore calendar. A month reaches this end of the ranking either by being short or by absorbing closures, and the two produce the same headline number while behaving differently: a closure fragments the month, a shorter calendar does not.

2027 carries 253 working days in total under the Singapore calendar. The longest month of the year is December 2027 with 23 and the shortest is May 2027 with 19, a spread of 4. January ranks 9th of the twelve with 20.

Singapore closures across the year

A month's working-day count only means something against the country's whole calendar. Two countries that share a weekend and happen to have the same closure-free month can still run very different years, and Singapore is placed as follows.

Across 2027 the Singapore closures fall 4 in Q1, 2 in Q2, 1 in Q3, and 1 in Q4. A further three holidays land on the Saturday and Sunday weekend and cost no working day at all, which is why a country's holiday count and its working-day loss are different numbers.

The longest uninterrupted run in the 2027 calendar sits between May 20, 2027 and August 9, 2027, 81 calendar days with no Singapore closure in between. Stretches like that are where multi-week work belongs, and they move from year to year whenever a movable holiday does.

Where the month sits in the year's closure pattern

Closures are not spread evenly across a calendar year. They cluster around fixed anniversaries and around whichever lunar or movable feasts a jurisdiction observes, so two adjacent months can carry very different loads, and the Singapore calendar is no exception.

2027 opens its Singapore closures with New Year's Day on January 1, 2027 and ends them with Deepavali on October 28, 2027. The densest month of the year is March 2027 with two closures on working days.

One working day fewer than last year

January 2027 has one working day fewer than January 2026: 20 against 21. On a monthly target that is roughly 5% less working time for the same calendar period, which is the size of gap that shows up as an unexplained miss rather than as a known constraint.

January opens 2026 on a Thursday, 2027 on a Friday, and 2028 on a Saturday. That movement, one weekday in a common year and two after a leap day, is what makes the three counts differ. The number of closures on working days is the same in both years, so the whole of any difference comes from weekday alignment. Looking ahead, January 2028 carries 19 working days.

Anchor dates that do not fall on working days

Three of the common monthly anchor dates in January 2027 land on a day this calendar does not work. A month with this many blocked anchors pushes several cycles onto the same few dates, because each of them resolves forward to the next available working day and those tend to be shared.

The final column is arithmetic, not a legal conclusion. Whether an obligation actually moves when its date is not a working day depends on the instrument that sets it, and this site does not assume a shift rule for any jurisdiction. Where a rule is known it is stated in the holiday data methodology and on the country page it applies to.

Net terms dated in January 2027

An invoice dated the 1st of January on calendar-day Net 30 terms comes due on January 31, 2027, which is not a working day under the Singapore calendar. A term counted in calendar days can land anywhere in the week, and roughly two days in seven it lands somewhere nothing settles, which is the ordinary reason a payment shows as late by a day or two without anyone being late.

Net 30 and Net 60 are commercial conventions rather than statutory periods, and both are counted here in calendar days, which is how they are almost always written. Where a contract counts in working days instead, use the between-dates calculator with the Singapore calendar selected, because the two produce different dates whenever a closure falls inside the term.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many business days are in January 2027 under the Singapore holiday calendar?
January 2027 has 20 working days under the Singapore holiday calendar. The month spans 31 calendar days, of which 10 fall on a weekend and 1 is a Singapore holiday that lands on a weekday. The remaining 20 weekdays are countable as working days for invoicing, deadline tracking, and contract math.
Which Singapore holidays affect January 2027?
January 2027 contains one Singapore holiday: New Year's Day on Friday, January 1. The calculator skips it. Regional or industry-specific closures may add further non-working days for narrower contract definitions; layer them into the calculator's Advanced options if needed.
What happens when a Singapore public holiday falls on a weekend?
Section 4(2) of the Holidays Act 1998: if a day specified in the Schedule falls on a Sunday, the day next following that is not itself a public holiday is declared a public holiday. The Sunday stays a public holiday under section 4(1). This site's data lists the added day in place of the Sunday, which is not a business day either way, and the calculator leaves the added day out. The Act adds nothing for a holiday on a Saturday, though MOM says an employee whose Saturday is a non-working day should get a day off or salary in lieu; the calculator keeps a Saturday holiday on its date. When two public holidays fall on the same day, section 5(2) of the Holidays Act lets the President declare an additional public holiday, on any day of that year, by notification in the Gazette; it is not automatic, and this site's data lists no such day. The Ministry of Manpower lists 11 gazetted public holidays: New Year's Day, Chinese New Year (2 days), Good Friday, Hari Raya Puasa, Labour Day, Vesak Day, Hari Raya Haji, National Day, Deepavali and Christmas Day.
Why does the Chinese New Year date shift each year?
The Schedule to the Holidays Act 1998 names the days, Chinese New Year (2 days) among them, and gives no dates. MOM publishes the dates for public holidays one year in advance, by the third quarter of the year before. In this site's data, Chinese New Year, Good Friday, Hari Raya Puasa, Vesak Day, Hari Raya Haji and Deepavali fall on a different date in every year it covers. For a year MOM has not yet published, the data holds calculated dates for Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Puasa, Vesak Day, Hari Raya Haji and Deepavali and marks each one (approximate); where this site has no date for one of those days, the data has no row for it. Check MOM's list once it is out before relying on one of those dates for a deadline.
Why does the business-day count vary year to year?
Two things shift the monthly count for Singapore. First, the day of the week the first of the month lands on changes the count of each weekday. Second, Singapore holidays anchored to a fixed date shift their weekday across years. Some years a fixed-date holiday lands on a weekend; some countries shift the observance to an adjacent weekday and some absorb it into the weekend. January 2026 had 21 working days, so January 2027 has 1 fewer working day year over year.
When is the last working day of January 2027?
The last working day of January 2027 under the Singapore calendar is Friday, January 29. The month's last calendar day is Sunday, January 31, which is not a working day, so month-end processing has to happen two calendar days earlier than the calendar suggests. Counting back, the third-to-last working day is Wednesday, January 27.
How many working days in a row does January 2027 offer?
January 2027 has 20 working days in total, but they do not run consecutively. They arrive in four stretches of 5, 5, 5, and 5 days, so the longest unbroken run is five days, from January 4 to January 8. No working day in the month is isolated between two closures.
