Spain October deadlines

Modelo 303 and Modelo 130 for Q3 both close in the first twenty calendar days of October, on the same window as the first two quarters. The AEAT's own 2026 calendar puts both on October 20. The Fiesta Nacional de España on October 12 is one of the four national days Article 37.2 of the Estatuto de los Trabajadores fixes by name, so no Comunidad Autónoma may substitute it. Monthly IVA filers settle September in the first thirty days.

Those dates in 2026

One of the dates named above does not fall on a working day in 2026 under the Spain-wide calendar. A fixed calendar date advances through the week year by year, so this resolution holds for 2026 only.

Spain reporting cycles and business-day rules

Each provision cited here sets a filing window, not a single date. Article 71.4 of the Reglamento del IVA puts the quarterly VAT return (Modelo 303) in the first twenty días naturales (calendar days) of the month after the quarter, the return for the last period of the year in the first thirty of January, and a monthly return in the first thirty of the following month, or by the last day of February for January. Article 111.1 of the Reglamento del IRPF puts the pagos fraccionados (Modelos 130 and 131) between the 1st and the 20th of April, July and October, and the fourth quarter's between the 1st and the 30th of January. Under Article 108.1, withholdings (Modelo 111 among the returns) are declared in the first twenty días naturales of April, July, October and January, and in the first twenty of every month where numbers 1 and 2 of Article 71.3 of the Reglamento del IVA apply or where, for the income the article names, the withholder is a public administration whose last approved annual budget exceeds 6 million euros. Article 124.1 of Ley 27/2014 puts the Impuesto sobre Sociedades return (Modelo 200) in the 25 días naturales that follow the six months after the end of the tax period. The AEAT's 2026 taxpayer calendar says that a deadline which falls on a local or regional holiday ends on the next día hábil, except Modelo 369; the AEAT page on the Modelo 303 filing period adds that Saturday is inhábil and that a last filing day which is inhábil moves to the next día hábil.

How October 2026 compares year over year

October 2025 had 23 días laborables, so October 2026 has 2 fewer working days year over year. On the surrounding months, September 2026 has 22 días laborables and November 2026 has 21. Looking forward, October 2027 has 20 días laborables under the same Spain-wide holiday calendar.

Using this calculator in Spain

The 21 business days of October 2026 are its Monday-to-Friday days less the days of the calculator's Spain set, the days that are a holiday in all seventeen comunidades autónomas, in Ceuta and in Melilla; a holiday missing from any of those territories is not in the set. The count measures the days the month offers for preparing a return, not where a filing window ends: Article 124.1 of Ley 27/2014, for one, sets the window for the Impuesto sobre Sociedades return (Modelo 200) in días naturales (calendar days), the 25 that follow the six months after the end of the tax period. A window's end can also move: the AEAT's 2026 taxpayer calendar says that a deadline which falls on a local or regional holiday ends on the next día hábil, except Modelo 369, whose filing period does not move.

How October 2026 is shaped

The headline count answers how many días laborables October 2026 contains. It does not answer where they sit, and for anything measured in consecutive days rather than cumulative days that second question is the binding one. What follows is derived entirely from the Spain-wide holiday calendar and a working week that treats sábado and domingo as the weekend, with no assumption about how any particular obligation behaves.

A 31-day month opening the final quarter

October runs 31 days and opens Q4, the last quarter of the calendar year, so everything deferred earlier arrives inside a period that begins here. It shares its weekday alignment with January in a common year. As a 31-day month it carries three weekdays five times, and which three is decided entirely by the day it opens on.

In October 2026 that comes to 21 días laborables across 31 calendar days, against 22 in September 2026 and 21 in November 2026.

A late-week start

The month opens on the fourth working day of the week, which leaves only a short tail before the first weekend. The practical consequence is that the month's first genuinely full working week does not begin on the 1st at all. Anything scoped as "we have the first week to do this" has materially less time than the phrase suggests, and the shortfall is visible in the opening run below.

The opening stretch runs from Thursday, October 1 to October 2, two días laborables before the first break. October 2026 carries 21 días laborables in total, so that opening block is 10% of the month's working capacity.

Five working stretches

October splits into five working stretches. That is the ordinary shape of a month whose only interruptions are its weekends, and it means the month's internal boundaries are all predictable a year in advance: nothing here depends on a holiday date moving.

The working days of October 2026 arrive in stretches of 2, 5, 4, 5, and 5 days. The longest unbroken stretch runs five days, from October 5 to October 9. A task needing more consecutive días laborables than that cannot be completed inside a single stretch, whatever the month's total looks like.

The month is back-loaded. It opens with two consecutive days and closes with five, so the room is at the end rather than the start. That is the safer of the two imbalances, because a slip has somewhere to go, but it also makes the opening week a poor sample of the month.

Three weekdays occur five times

A 31-day month contains four full seven-day cycles and three days over, so exactly three weekdays occur five times and the other four occur four times. In October 2026 the three are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Which three it is follows entirely from the weekday the month opens on, which is why the working-day count of a 31-day month moves year to year even when its holidays do not.

Only Thursday and Friday among them are working days, so part of the surplus is absorbed by the sábado and domingo weekend and never reaches the working total. That split is why two months of the same length can carry different working-day counts without any holiday being involved.

One closure, and where it lands

October 2026 carries a single Spain-wide closure on a working day: Fiesta Nacional de España on Monday, October 12. A holiday's cost to a month is not only the day it removes; it is also where the removal falls, because the same closure can extend an existing break or cut a working stretch in half.

It sits directly beside a weekend rather than inside a working week, so it extends an existing break instead of creating a new one. That is the cheapest position a holiday can occupy: the month loses a day but keeps its shape.

seven working days pass before the closure and 14 follow it, which puts the break just short of the month's midpoint. A closure near the middle divides the month into two usable halves rather than trimming one end of it.

The closures around this month

October 2026 carries one Spain-wide closure of its own, and the months on either side add their own. Where a deadline sits close to a month boundary, the closure that moves it is as likely to be outside the month as inside it.

Looking outside the month, the last was Día del Trabajo on May 1, 2026, 153 calendar days before October began and the next is Inmaculada Concepción on December 8, 2026, 38 calendar days after it ends.

Across the whole of 2026 the Spain-wide calendar puts seven closures on working days, of which one falls in October. That ratio, rather than the raw count, is what tells you whether a month is carrying more than its share of the year's downtime.

The month ends over a weekend

October 2026 ends on a Saturday, which this calendar treats as weekend. Month-end processing cannot happen on the last calendar day, so it happens earlier and the last few dates of the month carry no settlement at all. The distance between the final working day and the final calendar day is where month-end reconciliations go missing.

The last working day of October 2026 is Friday, October 30. Counting back from there, the third-to-last is Wednesday, October 28, three calendar days before the month closes.

The working month ends on the last working day of a week, so the final stretch is a complete one and nothing is left hanging mid-week. One calendar day of October follows it with nothing settling on it.

The quarter opens here

October is the first month of Q4. An opening month sets the baseline the rest of the quarter is measured against, and it is the one month where a slip has two further months to be absorbed in. Quarterly targets divided evenly by three ignore the fact that the three months rarely carry equal working-day counts.

Across the whole quarter there are 63 días laborables, of which 21 fall in October. The other two months carry November 2026 with 21 and December 2026 with 21. All three months of the quarter carry the same working-day count, which happens when their weekday alignments and closures cancel out exactly.

The week's first working day is the scarcest

The first working day of the week is the one October gives least often. Anything anchored to the start of the working week (a weekly kickoff, a Monday-morning cutoff, a start-of-week batch) fires fewer times this month than the calendar count suggests, because a closure has taken one of them out.

Counted as worked rather than as occurring, October 2026 gives Monday 3, Tuesday 4, Wednesday 4, Thursday 5, and Friday 5. A weekly commitment pinned to a particular weekday fires that many times in the month, which is the number a rota needs and not the one the calendar shows.

Where the month sits in the year

October sits in the middle of 2026 by working-day count under the Spain-wide calendar. The middle of that ranking is where a month's total is least informative on its own, because a mid-ranked month can be a long month carrying closures or a short one carrying none, and the two need different plans.

2026 carries 254 días laborables in total under the Spain-wide calendar. The longest month of the year is July 2026 with 23 and the shortest is May 2026 with 20, a spread of 3. October ranks 7th of the twelve with 21.

Spain closures across the year

A month's working-day count only means something against the country's whole calendar. Two countries that share a weekend and happen to have the same closure-free month can still run very different years, and Spain is placed as follows.

Across 2026 the Spain-wide closures fall 2 in Q1, 2 in Q2, 0 in Q3, and 3 in Q4. A further three holidays land on the sábado and domingo weekend and cost no working day at all, which is why a country's holiday count and its working-day loss are different numbers.

The longest uninterrupted run in the 2026 calendar sits between May 1, 2026 and October 12, 2026, 164 calendar days with no Spain-wide closure in between. Stretches like that are where multi-week work belongs, and they move from year to year whenever a movable holiday does.

Where the month sits in the year's closure pattern

Closures are not spread evenly across a calendar year. They cluster around fixed anniversaries and around whichever lunar or movable feasts a jurisdiction observes, so two adjacent months can carry very different loads, and the Spain-wide calendar is no exception.

2026 opens its Spain-wide closures with Año Nuevo on January 1, 2026 and ends them with Navidad on December 25, 2026. The densest month of the year is January 2026 with two closures on working days.

A materially shorter month than last year

October 2026 carries 2 fewer días laborables than October 2025 did (21 against 23). Two or more days is a large swing between adjacent years and it takes both causes acting together: the weekday alignment moving and a closure changing which side of a weekend it falls on.

October opens 2025 on a Wednesday, 2026 on a Thursday, and 2027 on a Friday. That movement, one weekday in a common year and two after a leap day, is what makes the three counts differ. The count of closures on working days differs between the two years as well, so alignment is not the only thing moving. Looking ahead, October 2027 carries 20 días laborables.

Anchor dates that do not fall on working days

Three of the common monthly anchor dates in October 2026 land on a day this calendar does not work. A month with this many blocked anchors pushes several cycles onto the same few dates, because each of them resolves forward to the next available working day and those tend to be shared.

The final column is arithmetic, not a legal conclusion. Whether an obligation actually moves when its date is not a working day depends on the instrument that sets it, and this site does not assume a shift rule for any jurisdiction. Where a rule is known it is stated in the holiday data methodology and on the country page it applies to.

Net terms dated in October 2026

An invoice dated the 1st of October on calendar-day Net 30 terms comes due on October 31, 2026, which is not a working day under the Spain-wide calendar. A term counted in calendar days can land anywhere in the week, and roughly two days in seven it lands somewhere nothing settles, which is the ordinary reason a payment shows as late by a day or two without anyone being late.

Net 30 and Net 60 are commercial conventions rather than statutory periods, and both are counted here in calendar days, which is how they are almost always written. Where a contract counts in working days instead, use the between-dates calculator with the Spain calendar selected, because the two produce different dates whenever a closure falls inside the term.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many business days are in October 2026 under the Spain-wide holiday calendar?
October 2026 has 21 días laborables under the Spain-wide holiday calendar. The month spans 31 calendar days, of which 9 fall on a weekend and 1 is a Spain-wide holiday that lands on a weekday. The remaining 21 weekdays are countable as días laborables for invoicing, deadline tracking, and contract math.
Which Spain holidays affect October 2026?
October 2026 contains one Spain-wide holiday: Fiesta Nacional de España on Monday, October 12. The calculator skips it. Regional or industry-specific closures may add further non-working days for narrower contract definitions; layer them into the calculator's Advanced options if needed.
Why does the Spanish calendar vary year-to-year?
Part of the calendar is each comunidad autónoma's choice. Article 37.2 of the Estatuto de los Trabajadores allows no more than fourteen fiestas laborales a year, two of them local, and lets a community add one more, recoverable, in a year when too few national holidays fall on a Sunday for it to set one of its traditional holidays. It names four national days to be respected in any case: the Natividad del Señor, Año Nuevo, 1 May and 12 October. Article 45.1 of Real Decreto 2001/1983 lists the national days, and nine of them, those four included, cannot be replaced (letters a to c). The letter d days, Jueves Santo, the Epifanía del Señor and San José or Santiago Apóstol, a community may replace with traditional holidays of its own, as it may the Monday rest that follows a national holiday on a Sunday (article 45.3). The communities send their lists to the ministry before 30 September (article 45.4), and the lists for 2024 to 2027 were published in the BOE as resolutions of the Dirección General de Trabajo, each counting twelve days under these rules. Article 46 adds up to two local holidays a year in each municipality. The calculator's set holds only the days that are a holiday in all seventeen comunidades autónomas, in Ceuta and in Melilla; add a regional or local date under Advanced options.
What happens when a Spanish national holiday falls on a Sunday?
The rest day moves to the Monday. Article 37.2 of the Estatuto de los Trabajadores says the rest for a holiday that coincides with a Sunday is moved "en todo caso", in every case, to the Monday immediately after, and article 45.2 of Real Decreto 2001/1983 repeats it for the national holidays. Each comunidad autónoma may replace that Monday with a traditional holiday of its own (article 45.3), so whether the Monday is a holiday depends on the territory: the list the BOE publishes for the year marks it territory by territory. Those Mondays are not in the calculator's set, which keeps the holiday on its own date; if your territory keeps the Monday, add it under Advanced options.
Why does the business-day count vary year to year?
Two things shift the monthly count for Spain. First, the day of the week the first of the month lands on changes the count of each weekday. Second, Spain-wide holidays anchored to a fixed date shift their weekday across years. Some years a fixed-date holiday lands on a weekend; some countries shift the observance to an adjacent weekday and some absorb it into the weekend. October 2025 had 23 días laborables, so October 2026 has 2 fewer working days year over year.
When is the last working day of October 2026?
The last working day of October 2026 under the Spain-wide calendar is Friday, October 30. The month's last calendar day is Saturday, October 31, which is not a working day, so month-end processing has to happen one calendar day earlier than the calendar suggests. Counting back, the third-to-last working day is Wednesday, October 28.
How many working days in a row does October 2026 offer?
October 2026 has 21 días laborables in total, but they do not run consecutively. They arrive in five stretches of 2, 5, 4, 5, and 5 days, so the longest unbroken run is five days, from October 5 to October 9. No working day in the month is isolated between two closures.
